“Prime location near Disney Resorts.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

Given that we have been to Orlando so often, I was a bit surprised by the amazing experience we had at Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort. The Resort is conveniently located quite near the Disney complex, so a nice plus was the nightly display of the fireworks from Epcot. Although Bonnet Creek does offer a shuttle to most of the major parks, with a frequent schedule of drop off and pick-ups, there is a charge for this service. It can be convenient if for example you want to send your teens to the park without having to bother with taking them, or if you have a small party (i.e., 1 or 2) it might be cheaper than paying for parking. But that said we typically choose to drive ourselves, it’s just more convenient. Also, even though the resort offers so many on-site amenities that there is no compelling reason to leave the resort, there are distinct advantages to having a car at Bonnet Creek. First of all, the added mobility makes it easier to enjoy all that Orlando has to offer, like being able to stock up on groceries and other shopping (Walmart, Target and Publix are just a few of the nearby stores, and don’t get me started on the Outlet Malls) or enjoy a night out at one of the hundreds of superb restaurants located within a fairly short drive. For example, Downtown Disney is a 2.5 mile drive or about 10 minutes while Discovery Cove & Sea World are about 7.5 miles which equates to less than a 15 min drive. Just note that drive times can be much longer after the parks let out due to all the traffic trying to get to the same places. Second on-site parking is free so there is no downside. We stayed in a beautiful 2 bedroom condo which overlooked one of the pool complexes. The condo offers an enormous living/dining area, with a fully equipped kitchen. The master bedroom has a King bed, jacuzzi tub and private bath with a shower. Whereas in the 2nd bedroom the boys had 2 queen beds. We had a nice flat screen in the living room and both bedrooms, as well as a DVD player. Internet was OK, but sort of hit or miss except during the day when most people are gone. An added plus of being in a condo is being able to do laundry with the washer & dryer in the room. This means you can pack lighter and don’t have to lug around as much baggage. This is a good time to point out that this resort is a Time-Share - meaning that unlike a hotel there is no daily maid service (hence the negative comments from uninformed guests). But we’ve always considered having to wash our towels a fair trade off for not being confined in the small space of a hotel room. Also although check in is typically very easy, you’ll be sent to retrieve your parking pass from another desk where you will be asked about their resort tour (translated as time share sales pitch). You should politely decline unless you want to be tied up for 2 or 3 hours. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. For example, when we had a problem with our dishwasher they were very quick to send someone up and also did a call back to make sure the problem was resolved.

One of the best amenities is you have use of all pools and lazy rivers on the entire resort. The kids gravitated to the pool complex with the slide, while we tended to walk across to the main pool near the Pirate Ship which was generally a bit quieter and more adults. The bar serves up great drinks. You can also pick up Putt Putt clubs in Tower 6 and enjoy complimentary Putt Putt on property. Another really nice feature are the gas grills - very handy if you want to save a bit and grill a steak or burgers. They also have the La Cocina Pizzeria where you can grab a bite to eat, or they will also deliver to your room. Another option is the Deep Blu Seafood Grille at Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort hotel next door. Although expensive, it is very nice with an incredible menu featuring great sushi. We will definitely return to this property, especially if we are just looking for a place to kick back and relax.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with good view of the Epcot fireworks display and preferably the central lake.

Stayed at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek from April 3 through April 6 in order to visit Disney for the first time. For other trips, we have had great success using vrbo.com or homeaway.com, and this was booked through homeaway. A property management group called 5 Star Resorts actually handled all the details and it went extremely well. We had a 2 bedroom deluxe in Tower 3 (room 358) looking over the water and everything inside and out looked like the pictures that are posted on Tripadvisor and the property site. My boys (and wife) were thrilled to have separate sleeping areas (beds were very comfortable), full kitchen, washer/dryer, living room, dining room, free parking, etc…. We were so busy with Disney we did not take advantage of the pools or other amenities, but they looked great.
We understand that many feel you ‘must’ stay on premises at a Disney hotel, but for the money (less than a standard hotel room), the space, and convenience to Disney and the I-4 highway, this really worked for us. After we booked, we were advised that the shuttle was no longer free, but we used our own car to drive to the parks anyway.
Others have mentioned about having to attend a timeshare seminar. The topic did not come up during check-in but a voicemail was left on the room phone offering the seminar if we were interested-we were not.
Bottom line is that we would stay here again and have recommended the property to others.

Room Tip: Stay away from the trash shoot/recycling room

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for two weeks at the start of December 2012, and had a truly excellent stay in this wonderful complex, superbly situated right inside the ‘gates’ of Walt Disney World.

We paid just $1050 (all taxes included) for the two weeks, which was a better deal than we originally had at a basic hotel in the Lake Buena Vista area. After a lot of research about Bonnet Creek we were so glad we swapped. Instead of a small hotel room we received a huge suite with separate bedroom, full kitchen, huge bathroom with a separate Jacuzzi and a balcony overlooking the beautiful central lake, and grounds. It couldn’t have been better.

Some guests stay here without a car. However, we think a car is an absolute must, since it allows you to travel quickly out to all the different shops and restaurants in Lake Buena Vista and Kissimmee. Without one, you’ll be limited to the shuttle busses that take you to the Disney Parks and not many other places.

On first arrival, be aware that the complex is not very well signposted. Because all the approach roads are on Disney property, and they are busy signposting all THEIR resorts and theme parks, you really need to plan your route in advance. A good study of Google Maps or similar will really help. Also, depending on the direction you travel, you may need to get over three lanes of traffic very quickly once you are on Buena Vista Drive, so it is important you know exactly where you are heading. There is the occasional sign to Bonnet Creek, but they are few and small.

Our very first impression of the resort was from the female security guard at the gate who, after checking our name on her list, asked where we were from. On hearing we were from the UK, she loudly squealed ‘oh that’s just darling’ and cheerily ushered us through the barrier. We’ve rarely felt so welcome anywhere!

We parked ahead at the main building, and checked in at Reception with no wait. It was important for us to get a lake view, and I had phoned a couple of weeks beforehand to ask for a ‘lake view, on as high a floor as possible’. I knew in advance that they do not guarantee any request such as this, but will try to do their best to accommodate your preferences where they can. At Reception I repeated my plea, and was delighted to find that we received Tower 5, with a lake view, on floor 5 – not exactly high, but it turned out great since we were high enough to look above the trees outside our balcony window and get our lake view. I think any floor from 4 upwards would be fine in any of the buildings.

Note that after checking in you are expected to visit a second desk to pick up your ‘parking pass’. I had read that this was not entirely necessary, but I went there anyway. Be aware that this second desk’s primary purpose is to get you to attend timeshare presentations. Before they had chance to do this, I made it perfectly clear that I was not interested in attending any presentation of any kind during my stay, and I was only there to pick up my parking pass. I said this politely but very firmly, and had no argument from the staff member.

Tower 5 turned out to be a great location. It shares a multi-storey car park with Tower 4, so there was always somewhere easy to park – we headed in here every time. Tower 5 also overlooks a fabulous lazy river, which makes its way round the beautifully landscaped pirate themed grounds below.

The room was amazing. The huge lounge/kitchen area had a full dining table with four seats, a large kitchen with fridge/freezer, microwave, large oven with four hobs, a toaster, coffee maker, blender, dish washer, double sink and lots of kitchen equipment and utensils. The freezer even had an ice making mechanism inside. A nice counter around the kitchen area with two high chairs provided plenty of space to put things down.

Also in the main room was a closet complete with hangers, an iron and board, litter bin, broom, plunger and additional bedding.

The room was nicely furnished, with a sofa and two armchairs, a coffee table and a large flat screen TV with a DVD player. All the furniture was nicely appointed and well maintained.

A glass sliding door led out onto the private balcony, where there was a table and two chairs. It was wonderful to sit out here with a book, overlooking the lake.

The bathroom had a sizeable walk-in shower that packed plenty of power, plus a large sink unit and toilet and plenty of space to put toiletries, etc. Also in the bathroom was a washing machine in its own cupboard. This was a very useful addition which we used a few times during our stay. There were plenty of towels provided for the two of us, and although the room was not serviced every day (this is a timeshare resort, not a full service hotel) the towels were more than sufficient for us. I believe that towels and bedding may be changed automatically after the first week of any extended stay, but from experience we also found they will be changed on request at other times.

In the bedroom area there was an additional sink and a Jacuzzi bath. The king sized bed was very comfortable. The bedroom had a closet with further hangers and a safe (free to use). There was a chest of drawers, an additional flat screen TV, and two bedside cabinets. All in all, there was loads of space to store all our clothes. A fan/light was above the bed and in the main room, although we didn’t use these since the air conditioning was more than adequate. A window once again looked out over the central lake.

Even though we stayed at a relatively quiet time for the parks, the resort itself seemed busy, but never uncomfortably so. We rarely passed other guests in the hallways, and usually only met others around the lifts or in the lobby areas.

Driving the roads in the dark was a bit disconcerting at first, but you very soon get used to the layout and, as I said earlier, the adjacent multi-storey car park was very handy.

The lifts in the tower were extremely quick. It seemed like we never waited more than ten seconds before one arrived. There were vending and ice machines on our floor, near the lifts.

During our stay, our room telephone indicated that we had missed three calls on the first day, and a further three or four during the rest of our two weeks. Since nobody we knew had our room number, I realised that these were calls from the hotel itself. I had read prior to our arrival that the timeshare reps may well persist trying to get you to attend one of their presentations. Luckily we were out whenever they called, so we simply ignored them. My suggestion, if you stay here, is to do likewise and ignore any calls you may receive in your unit that you were not expecting.

The whole resort is beautifully landscaped, with lots of leisure amenities such as two lazy rivers, a number of other swimming pools, play areas for the children, etc. We think that wherever you ended up the positives would vastly outweigh the negatives. Our view, however, is that Towers 4 and 5 offer the best location and pools, followed by Tower 6 (these are all the newest and much higher towers). Our last preferences would be Towers 3, 2 and 1 in that order (Tower 1 being the first and smallest, and didn’t seem quite as part of the resort as all the others).

We would definitely recommend an inner, lake view over any outer view, since these would mainly look over the car parks that surround the property. There are certain Towers where a high floor outer view may give some glimpses of the Disney fireworks at Epcot and/or Magic Kingdom. But we think having the lake view far outweighs this.

Unless you specifically need a ground/low floor for accessibility reasons, we would definitely request a higher floor – at least 4+ because otherwise your balcony may be overlooked by people passing by, affording you very little privacy. I think the very worst rooms would be a ground/low floor with a non-lake view – because that would give you a direct view onto the car parks.

For more information about this resort than you could ever wish to know, there is a specific forum topic on a well-known Disney related website. I found this absolutely invaluable in learning before I booked what rooms types were available, how the resort operated, the layout of the towers, what amenities were available, and so much more. I absolutely recommend this to anybody thinking about staying here. If you can’t find the forum topic yourself, I would gladly point anybody in the right direction if you drop me a private message. Or feel free to ask any questions I may be able to answer. I would also be happy to tell you the company through whom we booked, because their service and prices were excellent.

In summary, we had a wonderful stay at Wyndham Bonnet Creek. If ever we come back to Orlando, this will be the first place we will choose, and we will recommend it to any friends we know who are wanting a great Disney-based vacation.

In all honesty, we could have lived in our suite at Bonnet Creek permanently, quite happily!

Room Tip: Phone in advance to request a lake view room, on the fourth floor or higher (to miss the tree line...

This is our fourth year traveling to Orlando with our two kids. We normally stay on Disney Resort Properties, doing something like the Family Suite at the All Star Resorts. We decided this year we wanted to stay somewhere that would offer a split floor plan, more space and a full kitchen. Wyndham Bonnet Creek met ALL of our needs.
We stayed in unit 1312, in tower 6, which is a presidential "suite". The room offers an enormous living/dining area, full kitchen with all of the upgrades including cuisinart toaster and blender.
The master bedroom: 1 king, enormous jacuzzi tub, walk in shower, wardrobe, flat screen TV
2nd bedroom: 2 queen beds, wardrobe, flat screen TV.
Living Room: Flat screen TV, Bose Sound system, DVD player, ample seating
Dining Room: Opens to living & kitchen, large table seats 6
Balcony: Huge balcony overlooking conservatory/Downtown Disney
Laundry: Top loading washer & dryer

Pool: Pirate ship pool & slide, pool bar which serves up great drinks. You have use of all pools on the entire resort meaning you can wall to other towers and use lazy rivers & pools.

Putt Putt: You can pick up Putt Putt clubs in Tower 6 and walk to enjoy two hours of complimentary Putt Putt on property.

Food: La Cocina Pizzeria & Bar: Offers a quick and delicious 4 cheese pizza. They also will deliver to your room throughout the resort. We also dined at Wyndham Resort next door at Deep Blu Seafood Grille. It is very nice, expensive but offers an incredible menu with great sushi.

Parking: Parking is convenient to the tower in which you are staying. There is also an additional parking deck which we did not have to use.

Location: This resort is located on Disney Property. We drove to all parks with no problem, very convenient to I-4. We also visited Discovery Cove & Sea World, both w/n at 12 min drive. You are about 6 minutes to Downtown Disney. Wyndham Bonnet Creek does offer a shuttle to these parks with a frequent schedule of drop off/ pick-ups, but we chose to drive ourselves.

We will definitely return to this property, even if we are looking for a place to just kick back and relax.

Room Tip: We really enjoyed suite 1312 in tower 6. It is located across from the elevator bank, but the noise...

This is a beautiful resort! We really enjoyed all aspects of it. We had a 2 bedroom condo with views of Disney fireworks. The location is amazing: 5 mins to Downtown Disney or Blizzard Beach, 10 mins to Sea World, 15 mins to Universal Orlando.

My only negative to report is that they try to sell you a timeshare....very annoying. They were high pressure on that when I checked in, and then called about it a couple of times.

Room Tip: Building 5 has views of Disney fireworks.

We stayed at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for a week in April. It was perfect! I have two boys 9 and 11 and there was so much to do! They loved the pools-especially the Pirate Ship pool. The nice thing about it was you could stand in almost the entire pool. The slide was great (kinda scary!). The staff kept the kids busy with tons of activities like splash contests. The kids loved miniature golf, ping pong, checkers, the arcade and the Xbox / Wii room. Also fun to walk around the lake and watch the loon birds hunt for fish. For those of you whose kids play Call of Duty and Modern Warfare. fyi-they don't allow those kind if games. They had a movie rental machine (red box like) in the lobby. All rooms have DVD players. Each night at 9:00 pm you can see the fireworks from Disney. there is a room in one of the hotels set up for viewing fireworks every night. The kids had a blast!
We could not have been happier with the rooms, (apartments). We had a 2 bedroom unit on the 5th floor of building 4. It was nice and quiet at night and a good location in between the pirate pool and the lobby. The rooms were sparkling clean, well equipt and had the perfect layout and really looked like the pictures! it was amazing to have a kitchen and washer and dryer! Also parents get their own room!
The mistake we made was not renting a car on the first day. Breakfast at the resort was $50 for take out! Renting a car and going to a grocery store on the first day is a must. Publix is closer but Super Target is more fun! You will save hundreds of dollars that way.
My only warning is to beware of the staff telling trying to sell you timeshares. After you check in they immediately pass you on to someone who makes you think they are a concierge but they are really trying to give you discounted tickets to the parks so you will take their tour and go to the breakfast. Don't let them take up your time! They will call you each day to try to invite you again. We said no each time. Other then that it was an amazing resort with tons to do! Would come back again for sure!
