“Very good pizza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2014 NEW

For some reason, the Disney ad men call the pizzas here "flatbreads." Whatever they are called, there are several varieties to choose from, and they were quite good. Service was as expected at a Disney venue, and the prices were more reasonable than at some other Disney venues. Suffice it to say, this is not gourmet dining, and the decor and price3s are set accordingly. The decor is pleasant enough, a mix of '50's and Italian.

“Mama Not-So Italiano”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2014

I have been a frequent guest of Walt Disneyworld over the past 9 years. In that time we have tried many of the Disney food offerings. On one trip we decided to try Mama Melrose. We have had many extremely positive experiences over the years while dining, but this was a far departure from that expected level of excellence. There have been other restaurants were the a dish or two may not have lived up to expectation, but the staff, theming, and atmosphere always seems to make everything alright. Mama Melrose met none of those expectations. We had reservations that were made 180 days in advance (as most veterans do) and were seated 30 minutes beyond that time. I could understand if they had difficulty clearing out lingering guests, but the dining room was half empty and all the empty tables were set. We waited another 30 minutes just to be acknowledged. We ordered our drinks and never saw them filled again. Hard to believe since in an empty restaurant they sat us beside a server station with soda fountains. So we had all the staff traffic with zero of the attention that goes with it. The restaurant was so dark and poorly lit, I could hardly read the menu. I had plenty of time to stain over my menu as it took forever and a day to actually place our order. When our food finally arrived (brought by another staff member, not our waitress) it was luke warm at best. Not one dish that my family of 4 ordered was even close to Italian. Sauce tasted like a combination of Ketchup and Tomato soup while the meats tasted like they had come from frozen. We did not see our Waitress from the time we placed our order till the tame she finally returned with our bill. Those who have been to Disney know that Hollywood Studios is a tough place to find a decent table service meal, so we had high hopes, but low expectations. So to not meet our LOW expectations was very disappointing. I have made it a point to eat all table service meals outside of this park. The tucked away location is inviting from the outside, so I would consider the experience of the inside as an opportunity missed. They would be better served to turn it over to the company that runs Italy in Epcot so at least the food would be good and the staff would be amazing. If you can find another option for your Hollywood day, I would recommend it.

“Does the trick, but not much more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2014

We booked reservations to ensure that we could get seating and because we knew Italian would fit the bill, especially for our fussy 12-year-old (he'll eat plain pasta, bread and not much else). The menu has several promising options, but the food wasn't as flavorful as we had hoped. Sauces were a little bland. Plenty of food, though.

Note about service: The restaurant was certainly busy, but there were many times that we saw every other server but ours. She was very pleasant, but seemed to go MIA several times during the evening.

“Ok food. Pasta not too good for an Italian restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2014

We dined at Mama Melroses in Hollywood Studios the 3rd week of November 2014. We ordered the Chicken Parmigiana and a Minestrone soup. Service is good and the waiter timed everything very well. The chicken is better than at Tony's but the spaghetti was not good at all. It was cut very short and seemed like it was pre cooked. For an Italian restaurant it would seem pasta would be easy. Judging by the pasta I had it was disappointing.

“Fanstamic Dinner Package”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2014

My husband and I always book a reservation at Mama Melrose's for lunch on the day we want to see Fantasmic! at Hollywood Studios. We take advantage of the special package that is offered when you reserve in advance. We get a special dinner price with three courses for a fixed price and we get reserved seating for the show later in the day. This is my favorite package that Disney World offers.
Aside from the deal on the package, the food is always very good. We usually get the steaks and they're always cooked to perfection and the sides with them are wonderful too. The atmosphere is a little noisy so it's definitely not a quiet date night type restaurant but after all, it's designed to be a NYC atmosphere!
