“Brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

I go to Disney World once every two years, and eating at Jiko is one of the things I look forward to the most! (I'm 17 yrs old,so I should be excited to see Mickey) The food is great and the service matches it. I highly recommend.

“Overrated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

The food here was over cooked, overrated, and over priced. We got a terrbible waiter, Ryan B., who just couldn't be bothered explaining things on the menu or even listening when we asked for dishes for someone who was lactose intolerant. He was VERY unDisneyesqe. The restaurant is VERY dark and most folks had to use the light from their cell phones to read their menus or see their food, the prices are very high. Our tab was $180 including tip. We shared one appetizer, two entrees, two drinks, and a dessert each. We noticed that other waiters were very attentive and explained everything on the menu making suggestions as to their tastes. They suggested wines and were so nice. Our fellow just rushed us through. The diner next to us got a free intermezzo. Not offered to us. He got a free appetizer. Not offered to us. He was dining alone. Our waiter was very busy taking fotos for another large table but just couldn't be bothered with 2 old folks. We usually dine out at very nice places and don't mind the prices if we fell we are being treated well. My husband's steakk was ordinary. My prawns were rubbery. Can't recommend it.

“Disappointing.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013 via mobile

Don't eat here. Food is not as good as the price. 240 dollars for 2 people. For that price the food should be spectacular but it wasn't. I left disappointed.

“We ate here as part of our Wayami safari tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

The Wayami safari is only offered to guests who stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. You meet at Jiko first for some tea and little bites and a host "makes light talk" until the safari guide arrives. You are warned to go to the bathrooms first because there are no breaks during the 1.5 hour safari tour.

The tour is limited to 12 people only so you really get a chance to view the animals during the tour. Our guide was Erich and he was excellent; very knowledgable and friendly. We all had a wonderful time on the safari and then we headed back to the restaurant for our "feast"!

The chef came out and explained the items on the menu and checked to make sure if anyone had any allergies. We had this huge table in the centre of the restaurant and they first brought out the appetizers and alcoholic cocktail drinks to start. There were 3 sections to the menu; I don't quite remember what they were but each section had a wine pairing. The first was a white wine, the second was a red and the third was a reisling (all from South Africa). Everything was family style but there was plenty for everyone at the table. If you wanted more of a certain dish, it was easily replenished. The main courses included a beef with a reduction sauce that was been prepared for awhile, chicken and a fish. Some of the dishes are served on the regular Jiko menu, however, there are some that have been classics that have been revived just for the Safari guests. We ate everything and enjoyed it all! Then came dessert and I was expecting family style again but we each got our own. Yummy also! I was worried about the family style meal and "forced" to eat with strangers but after spending an entire afternoon with the group, we had some new found friends.

At the end of the meal, we were presented with a gift baggie with some goodies. A little warning; an 18% automatic gratuity was tacked on to the cost of our safari & meal. The service was really good but it's always a surprise when it's automatically charged.
Luckily our room was a lengthy walk from the restaurant...we were stuffed!
