What an absolute pleasure to have spent a Saturday night at Maxine's. I feel like I've just come from a friend'shouse....a friend who happens to be an accomplished chef. The atmosphere is fantastic; I kept thinking I'd stepped into one of the neat eclectic places you find in New Orleans. Our server, Ben, was both knowledgable and helpful. He was able to guide our ordering process as well as speak confidently about the beer, wine, and food.
Happy hour specials are great and appetizers are inexpensive and creative. Ben suggested the pork wing and he was spot on, we really enjoyed it. We also had the olives and then shared the wedge salad and wine board for dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine because of the happy hour prices ($10 off bottles $40 or more) but he brought us tasters before we settled. And don't miss dessert! Many ingredients are sourced locally and desserts come from a local bakery.
I can't recommend this little neighborhood gem highly enough. It's on a small side street, literally in the middle of a neighborhood, in an old building. There is charming outdoor seating and LIVE MUSIC inside. Both owners were on-site and working and stopped by our able to check on our experience. Maxine even sang a song with the guitarist and Kurt recited an impromptu piece of poetry to welcome and thank the diners. Make reservations if you're headed there on a weekend night after 7....it on seats 58 and it fills up fast. There is a beautiful bar with wine and beer (great beer selection!) but no liquor.
Thanks for a great evening, Maxine's!
