We are new DVC (Disney Vacation Club) members and this June was the first time using our points. We arrived in the morning and our room was not ready. We could have gotten a different room but all of my requests would be met if I waited. We asked in advance for a high floor with a boardwalk view. We could see the Silver Globe in Epcot from our room, the lagoon and boardwalk. We got our room keys which had our dining plan in place so our two teenage girls went off to Disney's Hollywood Studios by boat on their own! My husband and I walked the boardwalk to find lunch. They give you a card with a number to call and they tell you if you room is ready and give you your room number. It was done maybe an hour or so early, the check-in is 3:00 PM.
We had a studio villa. Our room was very nice. It had a king-sized bed and a couch that opens, plus a table and chairs. In the kitchen area there is a coffee pot, fridge, micro, cabinets, a toaster and a stainless steel (sort of work) sink with dishwashing liquid and a dish rag. Then across from that counter area is a vanity area with a double sink and a lot of vanity/closet space. The room came with an iron/ironing board, carpet sweeper, and a blow dryer. There was also a pack and play if you have little ones.
The bathroom had a tub/shower and a toilet and was quite small. Just enough room to stand in front of the bathtub.
We really liked the feel of the hotel. The atmosphere is great on the boardwalk all day long and there are a lot of shops, games, food stands, etc. We enjoyed the pool one day. It had a nice slide shaped like a wooden roller coaster. Nice bar service but very, very expensive for an alcholic drink! There were two private areas that were set aside from the main pool where it was quieter and no splashing.
The staff in the lobby and that you might meet in the halls was very friendly and accommodating. Although we are members so we don't get daily housekeeping we were able to get extra supplies on the first day, i.e. more towels and soap. On the third day they replenish towels, toiletries, throw out trash, etc.
We loved being so close to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM). You can take a boat to both of these. It was easy to walk to Epcot. We walked several times, especially if we didn't see a boat coming, or just missed a boat. The entrance we used was into the Country side of Epcot by the United Kingdom.
We ate at some Disney hotels for dinner, so we just went to a park and then took the monorail or bus to the hotel we needed!
The only complaint we had was the lack of counter service restaurants. We were on the dining plan and the only counter service at this hotel is at the Boardwalk Bakery. It was OK for breakfast and snacks, but lacking for lunch. One of the sitdown restaurants has a pizza window but you couldn't use your counter service there. After a few days we realized you can go to the candy store for your snack credits. They had a big variety, candy, rice krispie treats, ice cream, slushies, etc.
We definitely would stay there again. Please feel free to send me a message if you have any specific questions.
