“A great resort stay for a trip to Orlando”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2010

This is a huge hotel and not for the traveller who prefers an intimate boutique stlye hotel. If you like to have all the amenities that a resort brings then this has much to offer. We were made very welcome by all staff and they went out of their way to ensure we got a good room that met our requirements. As with all large hotels there is a lot of variety in terms of the views from rooms on different sides of the building. It's worth getting a lake / pool view if you want to feel like you're in a resort. As it is attatched to the Ritz Carlton there are lots of food options within the hotel - food is quite expensive on the whole but what you'd expect from this type of hotel. The only food place which disappointed us was the Citron brasserie - breakfast was fine but dinner here was not up to the standard expected. We made full use of the fantastic Lazy River pool with our 4 year old. It was well heated and always clean during our stay.
A great base for exploring the theme parks if you like the freedom of getting away from them too! It only takes 20 minutes to drive to Disney and the others are even closer.
We liked it so much that we returned for an extra week after we were stranded by the volcano in Iceland!

Why is it that every time I stay in Orlando (a dozen times now) I get told "but your booking is for twin beds sir" - I NEVER book twins. But I always seem to get them in Central Florida!

Is it because the great unwashed multitudes want to jam whole families into 300 square foot hotel rooms with too much oversized (American-sized) furniture when they visit the plastic entertainment capital?

Or is it my continuing bad luck with this place?

Nice (for America) hotel. Good WiFi. Good staff, nice friendly smiley people. The valet parking guys are great. And they get tipped accordingly! It works!

The hotel sharing a few thousand acres of isloation with it's sister Ritz hotel is a bit remote. You need a car if you want to buy a bottle of water, or anything else. The in-hotel shops where you would otherwise buy that necessary bottle of water - seem to have pretty odd trading hours.

Overall an enjoyable week. Too Expensive by far.

This hotel should be wonderful - expensive and new. But...rooms were small.
Not enough towels - you think they were made out of gold.
Staff was lovely - very kind. The shower was full of hair.
If you are a member of the
Marriot Frequent stay club - ask for free internet.
Then...they charge $16 per day for parking in the middle of
nowhere!.
Stay someplace else- ask for the square footage of the room.
Although new, this hotel needs help. Too much space for the loby, not enough
for the rooms

This is a review for anyone who is sitting on the fence about staying here. Honestly, it is the best hotel that i have ever stayed in! the staff were amazing, especially the maids ( when she brought in the room service there was music playing and she did a little dance haha). The surroundings are pure lush, the rooms are lovely and the bathrooms leave nothing to be desired. All in all this hotel is pure amazing. I have actually just booked another vacation here for 2 weeks in july becuase i loved it so much. I cant imagine going to orlando now without staying here. Seriously, if you are looking for a luxury stay at great prices then stay here. I was here in August 2008 also and the hotel was just as good then as it is now. There was never any issues at the poolside regarding securing a lounger and that was in peak season, so im not too sure what some people are complaining about. I have had some of the best vacations here and i hope after reading this that you all will too :D

Loved the lazy river, decent food, pretty rooms. The florist was AMAZING! She did an unforgettable in room surprise for my daughter's first visit to Disney World.

We were very pleasantly surpised by the hotel. The lazy river pool was a big hit with my son and we both spent hours in the pool. Yes, it is true that you pay $7 for an innertube, but I found it was wirth every lovely minute in the pool. My only complaint about the pool was that it was hard to find two empty lounge chairs together, although we were there on one of the busiest weeks, the week before Easter.
The rooms were very nicely appointed and the lobby was beautiful and spacious.
As for the food, I would agree with other reviewers that it was wildly expensive, and some of it was not very good. The sushi and pizza in the lobby lounge is very good. The poolside food was very good. I would NOT recommend the downstairs restaurant, however. They have a buffet that is grossly overpriced and the food was yucky. A hidden gem is the bistro next to the Starbucks in the hotel; they have fabulous freshly baked croissants and sugared waffles.
The hotel is 15 minutes from the airport and about 5 minutes from Discovery Cove and Seaworld.

This hotel is ok if you want to just stay the night and aren't interested in lounging by the pool or looking to have food and drinks by the pool. Plan on going to the pool by 8:00 a,m, to throw a towel on the chair, but that doesn't even guarantee you will get one. Two days out of our 4 night stay we didn't even get to enjoy the pool and on the last day some kid threw up in the pool and it took the staff hours to get it cleaned! We also waited at least 1 1/2 hours to get a salad for lunch and the room service food is horrid, and of course, very expensive. Make sure you plan ahead for your excursion/vacation plans because if you plan on using the hotels staff plan on waiting a long time in line. Oh yeah, and the pictures show a lazy river, you will need to pay $7 for a $1 inertube to enjoy the lazy river. This hotel is like paying for the steak but getting the hamburger. I have stayed at many JW Marriotts and this is by far the worst!
