“Stay Away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2008

This place on the surface is beautiful but the service experience is awful. The kids activities were very lame and the property does not have a water silde, only a temporary blow up kind of slide. The people organizing the kids club were confused and always started late. On Labor Day weekend, they had a Pinata that was a really dangerous situation and an accident waiting to happen. The food prices at pool side for a Hamburger were nuts-- $16!! There were not enough sun umbrellas and the staff does nothing when guests put a towel on their umbrella in the morning and disappear to "own" their spot for the whole day even if they do not use it. What is worse is that they are building a time share and the time share guests will have access to all hotel facilities which means that it will be even more crowded with more people using the same resources. The hotel obviously has a strategy of cutting back on staff to save money. As an example, we had to wait 30 minutes for a table at breakfast. Stay away from this place for now--definitely not worth it.

Just got back from a five day stay at JW Marriott in Orlando. Took the advice for others on this site and rented a car- good choice. Property is on a seculded 300+ parcel, kind of off the beaten path. Room rate included hot breakfast buffett daily for my wife, me and twp kids. Buffett at citron was fantastic! Waiter Alberto was great.. delivered perfect service to us daily and made our stay even better.
Hotel was beautiful and the room was spotless. Staff was extremely friendly, and went out of their way to help and assist at all times. Adjoining Ritz Carlton pool was great too, and the ability to use facilities at the Ritz was outstanding. Valet parking was a tad expensive, but in/out priviledges made up for it. Iced lemo and citrus water in the lobby was a great draw for parched guests, and tasted great. Simple gestures like ice cold lemon water on arrival distinguish the hotel from look alike resorts. We had a great tiem, never had an issue with housekeeping or clenliness and will most definitely return on next trip to orlando.

We stayed at the JW Marriott Orlando Grade Lakes for four days in March. The pool complex, complete with the largest lazy river I have ever seen, was fantastic for adults and children alike. We spent hours there with our daugther. The jacuzzis in the pool area were secluded and relaxing; one even featured a waterfall overflowing from an open, giant 'clamshell.' The staff were extremely attentive, and the breakfast buffet in the restaurant was gorgeously delicious. I would go back in a New York minute!

  • Liked — The pool area
  • Disliked — Room could have been a bit bigger, but it was still beautifully appointed and comfortable.

the only complaint I really have is that we got to the hotel early and they couldn't get us into a room. so instead we went straight to the pool which was great. the lazy river was fun. the only reason I marked the rating down was because of the poolside restaurant. the food is going to be pricey that isn't my problem. But when the service at the restaurant was disappointing. they took upwards of 45 mins to make burgers and our waiter checked on us only twice. not exactly worth paying for. everything else about the hotel was excellent. the staff was very generous. they swiftly handled our special requests without problems. our room had a wonderful view of orlando. all in all everything was excellent except for the poolside restaurant. this was a wonderful hotel overall.

  • Liked — the rooms were excellent
  • Disliked — the poolside restaurant service

We stayed there for three days right after we got married and it made our honeymoon wonderful. It has a great golf course, good room service and is clean and comfortable. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Orlando.

Ok-first the good -- great pools! Wow! Lazy river goes all over the place. Place is beautiful and you can use the Ritz. However, our teens wanted to run back to JW .. definitely nicer pools. Lunch about $15 wrap/burger..$7 smoothies (non-alcohol). Expensive but convenient if you are at poolside.

Now, after reading previous reviews about the theft. We were there on 8/6 and a family got their valuables stolen by the lazy river. The other reviewer was absolutely correct -- there is no security to get in to the pools.

Marriott security -- wisen up!!

Just make sure to leave your valuables in the safe. Resort overall was very nice.

Just returned from a meeting held at the JW Marriott. I had previously stayed at the Ritz on the same property a few years ago. The resort is absolutely beautiful and staff friendly. Would come again. Rooms were first rate. I do not have any kids so I am not as concerned as I would be if I had children

The JW Marriott is clearly more family oriented and kid friendly HOWEVER you must be VERY CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE KIDS! Iwas on a short break from my meeting when I watched a frantic family notice that their 6 year old wandered off and they could not find her. The security was notified and I could hear them notify all ground staff of the missing child on their walkie talkies------they did not flicker or even try to see if they could see a child wandering around unattended and looking lost and proceeded to go back to what they were doing! WHAT KIND OF PLACE IS THIS! I had to return to my meeting and never found out if the child was found and where. I certainly hope they were found. They have plenty of gates and should install key swipes so you can have some control over who goes into the pool areas. Why should locals get to enjoy what guests have to pay for. Even in the summer the price is fairly high.

  • Disliked — total lack of security
