My family and I have just returned home from a wonderful week at Cypress Point II. We are timeshare owners with Sunterra and chose to stay this year at Cypress Point because last year was great as well. Last year we chose Cypress Point because there were simply no other units available by the time we were able to book our vacation. However, this year we planned our stay there!
The Resort itself:
We always book a three bedroom unit. To get a three bedroom unit, you get a 2 bedroom unit--with a full kitchen, washing machine, dryer and patio, and you get the adjoining one bedroom studio which includes a small kitchen of its own and a small balcony as well. This is great when you have teenagers as they can go over to the other unit and feel like they have their own "place." Each unit has a sofa which pulls out into a double bed as well. This was nice since we have relatives in the area that popped in occasionally and wanted to stay the night with us.
When you stay at Cypress Point II, you have full access to both Cypress Point I and Cypress Point II. Cypress Point II has two large outdoor pools, and two outdoor hot tubs. There is also a playground and small shop for food needs and take out food ordering. (Make Pizza and sandwiches. ) There is also a mini putt putt golf at Cypress II. There is a small fee for the Putt Putt Golf, however you can pay a flat fee of like $20.00 for the entire week! My kids played so many times that it was well worth the cost. Over at Cypress Point I, there is a fitness room, a game room, a large pool with slides and a waterfall, shuffle board, vollyball, and a swingset. There is no fee to use the activity equipment and my kids had a blast all week there!
The staff:
When we arrived we were greeted at the front dek with cold bottles of water and freshly baked cookies. What a treat after the hour or so drive in the car! The staff at the front desk were nice and seemed very happy that we were there. (They do offer you a welcome package--which includes discount theme tickets etc. However, just a note--to get the discounts you need to attend a welcome breakfast which is also associated with a Time Share pitch. You are NOT pressured to go to this breakfast or to atend any time share pitch at all. You are just informed that it is there if you would like to benefit from it. This year we skipped the breakfast and pitch as we knew we were not interested in purchasing another time share at this time. Last year we did attend, but were not pressured at all and actually didn't end up purchasing more time share. We also walked away with a free Disney park ticket. SO it is basically up to you for this.)
There is a 24 security guard at both Cypress Point I and II. I felt safe at all times and the guard walked the grounds constantly. He also unlocked our unit when we accidentally locked our keys inside! (At one time he helped me carry my groceries upstairs!)
Our Unit:
Our unit was perfectly clean and had everything we needed to get started for the week. We washed our own towels but all you have to do is call housekeeping if you ever need fresh linens during the week. We had a perfect view of the pool and grounds. We were in unit # A44. We did notice the VCR was not working and called the front office. A man came and replaced it with a new one within 20 minutes. The day before we left something had went wrong with the garbage disposal in the sink. I called housekeeping and a man came over and had it fixed in just a few minutes. So we felt like the resort was on top of making us happy with our stay.
Location:
This year we stayed entirely at the resort itself. We spent 7 full days there and the kids were completely happy with it. (On a tight budget this year anyway.) Last year we enjoyed going to International Drive to shop and sightsee. Cypress Point is only a few miles from EVERYTHING. Downtown Disney is across the street, and other Disney parks are within minutes. Sea World is a few miles away as well. Oh yes and last year we went to the large shopping malls nearby. There is a Winn Dixie grocery store right outside the resort where you can buy groceries for the week at reasonable prices. If you want to go to Walmart it is about 20 minutes away.
Although we were completely happy, there were a couple of things that we feel would make it better. There is NO INTERNET ACCESS there! I always travel with my laptop and the kids enjoy checking e-mail and looking up things on the web--even on vacation. We were told that there was a location a block away that offered internet access-but we chose to do without. I am not sure how hard it would be to get Internet access there but that would have been really nice. Most Hotels these days have free INternet Access so it seems natural that the resort may get it soon.
Overall we would rank our stay as Excellent and know that families will enjoy it as well. Although we may travel away from Florida next year, we WILL STAY at Cypress Point again if we plan on staying in Orlando in the future!
