This hotel is very economical which was the main reason we booked here. We were in town for a National Dance Competition being held at the Dolphin in Disney, which was outrageously priced, so we picked the Ramada to save money. It is located in a very congested and major tourist area so traffic is a nightmare. Having had a recent knee replacement, there are not ample handicap parking spaces and people parked in Handicap spots that did NOT have a handicap permit. My husband brought it to the attention of the management, but nothing was done about it. Parking is free. Beware that they charge you $2 a night for the safe in your room, whether you use it ot not. I only noticed this while looking over my receipt on the plane and I intend to get it refunded, since I did not use the safe at all.
The room was average but comfortable. It was clean and the housekeeping did tend to the room daily, but the sheets were never changed which was disgusting, especially since we were there for 9 nights! EW! The rooms all have a nice view of the lake, pool and Wet & Wild. The toilet in the room was extremely low to the ground and you had to hold the handle for almost a minute to get it to flush and it was extremely loud. There are only a few channels available on the TV and you can't order a movie. We attempted to go to the free breakfast once and left immediately. No real selections, the coffee pots were empty and not refilled and it was crowded with people cutting the line and no room to sit. There is a microwave and small fridge, iron, ironing board and a hair dryer in each room. Shower had plenty of hot water. There is free wireless interent, but it is very slow. There is a computer with internet access and printer in the lobby you can use free of charge, which came in handy to print out our Boarding passes before we went to the airport.
The Staff is monotone. Not rude, but they certainly do not go out of their way. Kids enjoyed the pool but on two evenings, we had to get out because the pool was full of dead bugs...gross! The pool is on the small size and the lounge chairs are old and dated and need of replacement. The pool deck is extremely slippery and there is no lifeguard on duty at all. There are a few video games near the pool and my husband left with the high score on Pac-Man! The elevators take forever and it's a bumpy ride. The lake had baby aligators and turtles and it's filled with liter around the sides. There is no room service. I called for a wake-up call and they never called us at the time we asked....luckily I had also set my cell phone alarm to go off or we would have missed our flight.
This hotel is close to Universal, Sea World and Wet and Wild. It is FAR from Disney. It is a good 20 minute ride via the Highway (Route 4) and at least 30 minutes taking Sand Lake to Apoake. There is no great deal on the tickets sold in the lobby as they advertise, FYI. It's about a 15 minute ride from the airport. The area is very very very congested and one evening it took us over 15 minutes to pull out onto International Drive to go to eat. This hotel is smack in the middle of a major tourist area. Many of the tourists are from England and a few times we witnessed them driving on the wrong side of the road and almost caused an accident. We also noticed that many of the tourists are rude and pushy, often cutting the lines in stores and at the buffets. My six year old daughter was literally pushed out of the way at the buffet and when I said something to the man about how rude he was, he completely ignored me and kept right on helping himself even though it was not his turn and he cut several people. I was appalled.
There are many choices for dining and all of the restaurants are competing to get your business so you can get a decent deal. I recommend CiCi's Pizza Buffet, Sonic and Perkins all of which are on International Drive and about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. As you exit your room there is a small amusement park with a Sling-shot ride that is kind of like a big bungie ride. It sits two people at a time and sends them shooting into the sky. It was amusing to see how high some people got! My kids really wanted to go on it, but when we priced it we were shocked that it was $25 EACH and the ride lasted about a minute or so....totally overpriced. Be mindful of your surrondings on International Drive--two times we were approached and asked for money. The first time we were in the drive thru at KFC and the woman walked up to our car and asked for money to get a bite to eat. She was clearly drunk. The second time, I was leaving the Bargin World right near the hotel and I was approached by a young man that was very strung out and asked for money to "put gas in his car to get to the hospital where his girlfriend was delivering his baby and he forgot his wallet at home". Hey, I am from New York, I have heard all those types of stories before!! When I said no, he got a little aggressive and a man selling discount tickets to Disney came out of his booth and kindly came to my aid and told the guy to get away from me. It was very unsettling since I had my young children with me and they got scared.
Overall, I would not stay here again. While the price is right, there were just too many headaches and I did not feel comfortable at all. If you want a bargin, this is the place to go. If you want a nice vacation, spend the extra bucks...I regret not doing so. Next year for Nationals, I intend to spend the extra money and stay at the hotel where the competition is being held.
