My husband and I had stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Maui, Hawaii and loved it! We heard great things about the Ritz in Orlando and decided last minute to stay there on our way back home from Ft. Lauderdale. As always, the service was impeccable. Everyone was extremely helpful and nice. I can't say enough about the front desk staff! The hotel was gorgeous, as expected. We had a lake view and it was very pretty (we were on the 5th floor). The room itself looked about the same as our room in Maui, so I assume all Ritz rooms are nearly identical. The only difference I noticed was that the Ritz in Orlando did not have a tub/shower AND a standing shower - it only had a tub and a standing shower. Not a big deal - more than more hotels. But I had liked that in Maui my husband and I could get ready at the same time. The bed is the most comfortable bed I've ever stayed in. My lower back hurts a lot in hotel beds. We had just gotten done staying at a wonderful Marriott resort in Ft. Lauderdale, but my back had even started to hurt there. I had no back trouble at all with the Rtiz bed - I wish I could bring the mattress home with me! We had room service for dinner and breakfast, so I can't speak to the restaurants on site. But the room service was great; very tasty. It was highly priced, but room service always is.
The grounds looked nice. We got in late and didnt' have time to enjoy most of the amenities, but the pool looked nice. Plus, there were hammocks throughout the grounds, boats to rent, bikes, boce ball, etc. The spa is shared with the Marriott, which also looked nice. However, I was more impressed with the pool (and grounds in general) at the Ritz in Maui.
The hotel is somewhat in the middle of nowhere and since it is a resort, it can sustain itself. But, if you're looking to be close to attractions, this is not the place to stay. It also annoyed me that you have to pay for parking. The hotel is not in the middle of the city where parking is limited and the hotel has to be pay the city for parking spots (like in big cities I've been to, such as Seattle). So they charge you $20 + tax a day for parking and do they really need to??? No - they are in the middle of nowhere - tons of parking availabiliy. It's just another way to make money. And with the rooms being as expensive as they are, I wish they could just let you have free parking! Also, there didn't seem to be a restaurant on site that was inexpensive - everything was pretty pricey.
Overall, I loved my stay at the Ritz. The people were fantastic and the beds and room service were great. I LOVE Ritz Carltons in general and was not disappointed here. While I was highly happy with my stay, I have to say that I think the Ritz in Maui is hands above this one. But it could just be the wonderful location! ;-) I would definitely stay here again though!
