We recently started attending Grace Covenant Church and have scouted out a couple of likely places to try for breakfast. We were driving in; and, noticed the BBQ sign, next to Winn Dixie; but, didn't think much of it until after morning service. On our way out, we noticed the "open" sign; and, decided to give it a try.
Holy Smoke BBQ definitely has an identity problem -- country breakfast, bar-b-q, live music, catering, full-liquor bar, and, a vibrant to-go operation is a lot to pack into such a place. It helps that they have a private dining room; and, a banquet facility for events and catering!
Michael, our server, seated us immediately; and, offered menus as well as the buffet. I was disappointed not to see any bar-b-q items on the breakfast menu (maybe smoked sausage?) But, the smell from the kitchen convinced us they smoke their meats in-house, daily.
Breakfast for me and my wife consisted of omelets; bacon for her (oh, if she could have only added avocado!) and corned beef for me. Both were cooked-to-order, served piping hot; and, stuffed with the promised meat filling. They were too big to finish; and, half easily came home with us.
Home fries were a stand-out for me, with red bliss potatoes, fried with onions and green peppers; and, cooked to the requested "extra" crispiness. My wife loved the hash browns, which were similarly cooked to crispy perfection. The biscuit was cut in half, buttered, and browned on the grill top; an, interesting and tasty presentation.
Coffee was refilled without request; and, Michael passed my first-cup half-caf/half-decaf test perfectly (decaf refills for me, regular for my wife). We had wonderful service, wonderful food; and, the value is definitely there!
