“Unfortunately Dated Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2010

I stayed here for one night recently for business. The lobby was nice and the eating/social area was nice as well. The hotel was close to numerous restaurants. The fitness area was small, but what you would expect for this type of hotel. It has a basketball court. As nice as the lobby was, the rooms are very dated. They just look "old". There were two "old fashioned" non-flat screen TVs and dated furniture and applicances. Compared to the Residence Inn I visited in in downtown Tampa the next night, it was night and day with the Tampa hotel being much more modern and appealing. This hotel just needs a renovation.

I lived in Orlando for 4 years so hardly had the need to stay in a hotel at the UCF area since I lived down the road. After an absolutely miserable night at the Radisson on Alafaya Trail, I found the Marriott Residence Inn. I asked to view a room before booking as I really wanted something decent. Cathy, head of housekeeping, went out of her way to show me several rooms and although they were sold out, they managed to squeeze me in - I was sooo happy. The rooms are large, bright, modern, quiet and superbly clean. The beds are just right. I could not fault anything in the room, it was just perfect. Every hotel guest can use the LA fitness studio, which I did and this is really great. The outdoor pool at the hotel is nothing spectacular, mostly the smokers sit around out there. The front desk were very helpful although ultimately it was Cathy who arranged my late check out for me - 3.30pm which the front desk staff could not do. The Dutch hotel manager even arranged a bottle of red wine and crackers for me after he learned that my flight was cancelled and had to extend my stay. Again the hotel was sold out but somehow they managed to squeeze me in again. I will recommend this hotel to all my colleagues and I won't stay anywhere else in the UCF area. I also stayed at the Homewood Suites on Alafaya in December 2009, but although the hotel is nice, the location just doesn't do it justice.
The staff managing the breakfast were also supberb.
A big thank you to Cathy and the front desk staff.

If not for the soft beds that sunk in on the right hand side (nearest to the bathroom) I would have given this hotel top marks. The staff was excellent - young, professional, helpful, and kind. The women who arranged the free breakfasts each morning were excellent. They could not do enough for the guests. The food was delicious...and included in the room rate. The coffee which was always there, fresh, hot, and delicious, as was the coffee service included in each room. The water pressure in the shower was the best. The room was clean - I left the room staff a nice tip to acknowledge their good work. Each room is well-equipped and clean kitchenette with a full sized refrigerator. Ample parking near the hotel. Very close to UCF, highways, and walking distance to restaurants for quick meals. A safe and convenient place to stay if you are going to work at UCF. Free high speed internet that works and is easy to operate. Highly recommended...but please change the beds! And maybe add a wireless option to the free internet.

Ok hotel except for cockroaches. Alerted hotel staff and requested someone spray our two-room suite. No one came. Two days later, an even larger cockroach appeared. Front desk staff unable to discuss as they were "with a guest." We're obviously seeking other accommodations. Such a disappointment from Marriott...

Had numerous problems with this hotel.

1) Staff was very unfriendly, especially the maintenance staff. Most of them were grumpy, and could not speak English

2) Carpeting was dirty

3) Toilet was broken, and fixed AFTER I left the hotel

4) Evening activities and food, were NOT as promised.

Worse than all four above, is that management WOULD NOT DO A THING ABOUT IT.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!! IT IS A RIP-OFF!!

This Residence Inn is near the University of Central Florida, so you might be afraid that it would be noisy or run-down. However, during my recent (first) stay, this hotel was surprisingly quiet and well-appointed. The hotel is on a busy highway, but it is set pretty far back so that you can't hear the highway noise at all. The staff working behind the desk and at breakfast and Happy Hour were extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are large and clean. There are numerous chain restaurants within walking/driving distance. I would definitely stay here again.
