“Pros and Cons of the Palms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2011

We booked our room online and assumed we would get a similar room to those advertised online. That was not the case. We reserved for a non-smoking king in a renovated room, what we got was a smoking room with a king bed in a outdated room. I contacted the front desk and they moved us into the towers. The room we received immediately smelled better upon entering and looked like the advertised room online although still a bit outdated, but not nearly as much as our first room. Note about the towers: I suggest if you have a fear of heights do NOT get a room in the towers, I don't have a fear, but felt a little woozy until I got used to it.

The hotel lobby, conference center and pool areas are beautiful (period) the rest of the hotel is very outdated including the areas that were being renovated. The elevators were very scary and old, but it was comforting to know outsiders couldn't lurk near rooms b/c you need a room passkey to operate the elevators. Housekeeping was OUTSTANDING and very attentive - they kept you supplied with clean (not so soft) towels, soap, and hotel toiletries (soap, lotion, coffee, tea etc) if you needed them. And they were always pleasant.

The one MAJOR drawback was the showers. Not the bathroom itself, but actually taking a shower. It was truly an experience. The water was NEVER consistent. You can turn it on to the temperature that is comfortable for you, but it had a mind of its own. It would go from comfortable to scalding hot, to icy cold, to no water whatsoever all without turning any knobs. I do not suggest showering a child here as the water temperature/pressure could be very unpredictable and you wouldn't want to risk scalding your child. I attributed this to the renovations they were doing in the hotel until engineering came up and said otherwise. Hey he's the expert, what do I know?

Overall review: If you want a place close restaurants, highways and some attractions (Wet and Wild across the street and Universal around the corner) this is a good hotel. If you're looking for 5 stars this is not the place for you.

We stayed here for a total of 8 nights the end of June. This was our first trip ever to Orlando and couldn't have found a better hotel to stay at!! I was a little nervous at first reading the different reviews, but me and my family will make a point to stay here again the next time that we come to Florida. From the moment we checked in to check out, the staff was always friendly. The room smelled fresh and clean, The pool was excellant. The hotel was right in the heart of Orlando. Of course there was the ocaisional late night sounds from people in the hallway, but its a vacation people are there to have fun. So, give it a try...I'm glad that we did!!

We stayed the week of July 4th 2011 and had no problems. This is our second time staying at the hotel we stayed there last yr and this yr. Housekeeping at this hotel could not be any better. They do a wonderful job and the ones that cleaned our room was always very nice and kept us with plenty of clean towels everyday. We stayed in room 1010 near the pool the room was fine with two double beds. The water was always hot when we took showers and the room was clean. The pillows were not that great and the safe did not work but no big deal and didnt complain about something so small. Still dont care for the resort fee do not feel this is a resort but for the great job of housekeeping will pay it. Great location and did not know they accept pets good for me to know thats another plus. Check in was easy and check out was to. This yr. I thought the front desk clerks were alot nicer than last yr. Especially the older gentleman at check out he was very nice and it was nice to talk to somebody close to where I am from and been to where I live. If your looking for a clean place to stay with good housekeeping close to everything after a long day at the parks then this place will do fine. For the price you cant beat it. We paid 39.00 a night plus resort fee great hotel and will return again.

After reading some of the review's other people have left before me and my Mrs went we were a little worried... When we arrived at the hotel very easy to find on International Drive btw the staff were friendly and helpful. The first room we were given have no electrics and no lights etc so not the best start. We went back to reception and this was resolved straight away and we were given a different room.
The hotel and room's are a little dated but the room was plenty big enough, was very clean and everything worked. The room's were cleaned everyday very well.
The location is brilliant, 5-10 mins from Universal and about 25-30 mins from Disney. Loads and loads of places to eat and drink on International drive and there is an Itrolley stop right outside the hotel.
For thr price I couldn't complain and think more people need to consider this before moaning and writing stupid articles. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Orlando that want a cheap hotel in a brilliant location. And go to Red Lobster stop 15 or down the other end brilliant food.

been going to the holiday inn the last 5yrs, we can not praise the staff enough. their efficient and very friendly. the only down side is every year has become more run down. but the good news is after further investigating the palms resort have had a make over and it looks very nice, because of this we are going to book again for 2012! and can't wait to be back :))

Room Tip: a little rough around the edges, dirty carpets that smelt of damp.

This was a family trip to Disney World. We got to the hotel at about 4pm, and had to wait 20 minutes to check in, as our rooms hadn't been cleaned yet. After a long drive, the last thing we wanted to do was stand around next to the front desk. We stayed in the tower, which was adjacent to I4, so there is some highway noise, and which is built around a courtyard with all the rooms on walkways around the courtyard. There was significant noise from the echoes of other guests in that area. The room had a great view of Universal Studios park. Although the hotel was supposedly recently renovated, the furniture was somewhat beaten up, with noticeable chips and dents here and there.
The room had extremely comfortable beds. The pillows were ok, but were little larger than throw pillows. The carpets were new. The room was clean. There was a round table and two chairs, two beds with one nightstand between, a desk and chair, a hutch with the tv, a hutch with a little microwave, coffee pot, and a dorm sized fridge, and a dresser. Having a fridge and microwave in the room was a plus. The tv is an ancient analog tv. When Econolodges have flat panel tv's, for a hotel of this caliber to still have analog tvs is a bit ridiculous. The hotel did not provide full cable, just about 15 channels. Annoyingly, whenever you turn the tv off, it reverts back to the main menu screen and full volume when you turn it on again, no matter where you left it. The bathroom had the sink outside, then the toilet and shower in a very tiny room behind the door. I'd prefer it all together in a room you can actually move around in. I'm not sure the bathroom was as clean as the rest of the room, since I found a bug skittering across the floor near the toilet. That was the only one I found, and it wasn't a roach, so I'm considering it a fluke. The safe in the room did not work, so we had no way to store valuables except in the trunk of our car, and had to lug belongings back and forth each time we left the room.
My main problem with the room was the AC unit. There was no setting to keep the fan on even when the compressor was off, so the fan kicked on every time the compressor did, which was every half hour. Towards morning, it was every ten minutes. I got very little sleep, as the fan and compressor were very loud. Despite the website's description, there is no newspaper left outside the room door in the morning. The housekeepers did comply with the 'do not disturb' sign on the door. I've had them barge in to clean in other establishments despite those signs on the doors.
We had breakfast one morning at the Front Cafe, for the breakfast buffet. While it was a decent buffet, with good food, it was an incredibly expensive $10 a person just for breakfast. If we had known the price before we got in there and had eaten, we wouldn't have ever gone there. While there was a good sized parking lot outside the tower, finding an empty space was hard at night. So, all in all, it was a decent hotel, and a decent stay, in a great location, but with some definite things the management needs to fix.
