“Too many mistakes”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

This is a hotel with a split personality. The desk staff and concierge are accommodating and as pleasant as could be. However, housekeeping was awful and the breakfast buffet staff lacked professionalism.

Upon arrival we were greeted in a friendly, welcoming manner. We were given a clear explanation of how the hotel is laid out and blah, blah. The only miscue was that the young lady forgot to give us our breakfast vouchers which came with the package. No harm done. We picked them up the next morning. The next day, we returned in the late afternoon after a day at the theme parks and realized that nobody had made up our room. I called the front desk and asked that housekeeping come and take care of this. Arrangements were made so that the room would be cleaned while we were out to dinner. We returned from dinner at around 9 pm and our room still wasn't cleaned. Obviously, we were tired and just wanted to get ready for bed and rest by that time. Waiting for housekeeping to come and do a full cleaning was not in the plans. We asked for some clean towels and some shampoo for my 2 daughters who were staying with us. A woman from housekeeping showed up at our door a few minutes later with a stack of towels and some shampoos sitting on it and handed the wad to me without so much as an apology or even a smile.

On our last night at the hotel we boarded one of the 2 elevators to get to our floor. We got on with 2 gentlemen we didn't know. As soon as we got on we realized that someone had gotten sick in the elevator before us. The smell was obvious. It appeared to have been there for some time because it had spread widely. We all quickly exited before the door closed and told the concierge, who was the closest to it. He looked aghast. I don't totally fault the staff for this, but with the state of housekeeping there, I wouldn't be surprised if they ignored it until someone complained. It's unclear as to whether or not it was a coincidence, but all in my party suffered from intestinal illness for the next several days.

The food at the breakfast buffet was not bad, but the staff one day lost track of the fact that there were no more forks. It took them far too long to replace them and they had to be reminded. Guests with less manners than others also were taking advantage of the disorganized staff and violating a couple standard rules of buffets. They were taking dirty plates back for refills and even eating from the dirty plates as they were refilling them. Obviously, this creates a real health concern for transmission of disease. Kids were out of control and running amok. The staff had completely lost control of the dining room. It was worse than a middle school cafeteria scene.

I made these reservations late and now understand why this hotel had some vacancies while most were booked solid. There seems to be some sort of management issue which needs to be addressed. I know the hotel has a good location in relation to Disney World, but I don't agree with many of the reviewers. Just because a room is big, quiet and attractions are close, doesn't make it a good place to stay. Perhaps I just expect to get value for a dollar. Service equals value at a hotel.

For the location alone this hotel is worth every penny. If you are on a budget and trying to do Disney this is wonderful. Yes, the bus service is slower then others but it is within walking distance to Downtown Disney if you are trying to enjoy multiple parks at an fordable rate!

We spent a week at this location to visit the Disney parks and Universal attractions. The staff was very helpful, the room was very spacious, and we enjoyed our stay. We would recommend this location as a good alternative to staying on the Disney properties!

We loved the patio suite but as soon as I sat down to enjoy the patio I noticed an ashtray (dirty) and a whole lot of cigarette butts scattered around the landscaping. I picked them up and delivered them to the front desk but didn't get a reaction other than, "Oh wow, I'm sorry."

After being confined to a ship cabin and small hotels and apartments for 3 weeks it was a great surprise to have such an spacious suite to stay in. The rooms are nicely decorated and quiet. The beds are super comfortable and the bathrooms above average. The kitchen facilities are great only let down by the lack of utensils and plates. We paid extra to get an early check in which was $25 well spent. The coin laundry on the 7th floor was very handy as was the well stocked convenience shop and Disney gift shop. We didn't use the pool as it was too cold and rainy. The hotel is a quick 10 minute walk to Downtown Disney which is great for shopping and eating out.
We found the reception staff very helpful as was the bellhop services and of course the complementary shuttle to and from the Disney parks was great. On time and very helpful!
We would definitely stay here again next time we visit Disney…such good value!

Room Tip: Get a room closer to the elevators as the walk down the corridors is very long!

We checked into this hotel on 2/16 and the young lady that checked us in was so sweet and attentive to us. We stayed in several hotels during our 2 week florida vacation but this lady was by far the best check in clerk we experienced. The room was fantastic too. I love the two room effect so that if someone wants to go to sleep early and the other wants to watch tv, it's totally a go. I mentioned it was our anniversary and to our amazement, the hotel surprised us with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries!! Lovely.

Second stay at DoubleTree in Downtown Disney. Both GREAT experiences. (We had a reservation cancellation issue, but that was Hilton website NOT the hotel’s fault)

Location is in Downtown Disney so you’re within WDW. You could walk to Downtown Disney (DD) if wanted (probably ½ mile). There is a bus system serving DD Hotels. More scheduled (like every 30min timeframes) than usual Disney transportation at “Disney” resorts. So since less frequent and serving about half of the DD hotels with each route, buses can be crowded. (We prefer to drive to parks anyway so that we have car avail for quick getaway to avoid long lines and crowded buses and allow option to go to other places i.e. DD, Boardwalk, or dinner location directly.

Hotel is modern looking with well-appointed updated interior. Has restaurant and small bar. Concierge service and a Disney Store in the lobby for Disney needs. Has pool that looks nice (it was 50-60 degrees so not going swimming). There is small gym too, if you don’t think walking 5-10miles in Magic Kingdom is enough!

Rooms are great. SUITES THAT SLEEP 6 IN A BED. No “junior” on the floor or a cot. Small kitchenette with microwave and mini-fridge for snacks or breakfast. Rooms and bathrooms are very clean and quality updated finishes. Bedding and pillows were clean and super comfy!
Rates are phenomenal: this trip was around 150 for a SUITE, sleeping 6, using AAA. (Being a non-Disney owned property, you can get AAA, Govt, Military, Honors rates/rewards) My rate didn’t included breakfast or account for the other “Florida has gotcha” taxes. BUT also, there is NO resort fee like other area hotels. If did breakfast plan still MUCH cheaper than a Disney owned hotel, the cheapest I saw was about 300. (This was a busy holiday weekend. In past, during “off season” I think my rate was below 100.) There was to be charge for internet per website but front desk gave us the promotion password, so it was free.

Service was great (even with a botched centralized reservation issue). Friendly and helpful from front desk, to concierge, to housekeeping, everyone had a smile and more than willing to help.
DoubleTree does NOT entitle you to Extra Magic Hours. The Hilton is apparently the only DD hotel that does. That would be nice change to see.

Bottom line: Good WDW location, GREAT rates, very nice hotel with great staff. While may be giving up some of the Disney total sensory immersion that comes with a Disney-owned hotel (and a few extra magic hours), I’ll take my multiple hundreds of dollars of savings and buy myself some immersion elsewhere.
