“Fabulous accommodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

We stayed in a one bedroom vacation club room on the sunset savannah. The animals were breath taking. Seeing the giraffe each evening was a highlight. If you stay at Jambo make sure you make your way to Kidani they have a better water slide for older kids and a great spray area. The only negative is the distance from the parks but to me the atmosphere is worth it.

This was the first hotel that I got to stay at that was located in the resort of Disney. I was captivated by the architecture of the hotel, the delicious food in the restaurants, the easy accessibility to transfer from park to park and the best and the most exciting thing for me was being able to see the wild animals from our hotel balcony in a natural setting. This I will remember for the rest of my life :)

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking the Savanna :)

Disney's AKL offers so much. Our biggest advise is to make sure you schedule at least a few of your vacation days to enjoy the pools, savanna, animal viewing, African designs and art, story telling, and many activities and areas to explore. Plus...there are two areas here to explore with Jambo (our favorite for the hotel look and feel) and Kadani (our favorite for pool area).
Many say they are too far apart but it was a quick 5-10 min walk and shuttles offered too.

There are night vision (military grade) binoculars that make watching animals at dark very fun. Movies by the pool. And you are emersed in the African feel of the place and the surroundings. Not anything near you to make you feel otherwise.

The distance to the parks is about 20 minuts by the very nice and frequent Disney Bus service. The only down side is you are not on the Monorail or the Boat system. But small price to pay for the beauty and unique features of this property.

We did not try the restaurants (except the very good one by the pool) but hear all offer very good and authentic food experiences. Again with great views and theming.

The Disney experience is special. They do things better than anyone else and you pay for that in the pricing. But it's truely special, unique, and worth it.

We went with kids age 10,11, and 12 and they loved our resort days of swimming and exploring as much as we did (parks are great too of course...but your days here will be memorable).

Enjoy all this great resort has to offer. It will surely be a special part of your memories upon your return from vacation.

Room Tip: Partial Savanna views often still afford a nice view of the animals....and you will see many during...

We've stayed at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge four times over the past five years and we LOVE it! The restaurants serve delicious food, the hotel lobby is impressive, the rooms are nicely appointed, and the opportunities to see the animals on property are amazing, especially if you're traveling with children (which we always are)!

My family of five (kids 8, 5, and 2) really enjoyed our stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We never got tired of seeing the animals as we walked to the elevator or around the hotel. The pool was great and we could not have asked for a more friendly staff. It was especially nice to talk to the various staff from different areas of Africa and to hear about their home countries. There were always activities going on for the children from things at the pool to various activities with drums or educational activities about the animals at the resort. We only ate at the Mara restaurant, but it was good and offered a lot of options. Having bus transportation to all of the parks was great.

My only disappointment was with the quality and reliability of the internet which was awful. You would think that Disney, with all of their technology, could provide reliable internet.

AKL is a great hotel!!! The people at the front desk were very friendly. Our room was very good, and it had a good view of the savannah. We saw plenty of animals and got some good photos of them. The lobby design was also breathtaking, with its African theme throughout. We stayed for 7 days and 6 nights, and although we didn't use room service we did get a call from Mickey saying hi and welcome to the hotel. There wasn't really any Disney theme, but it was still a good stay. The wait to get on the tram wasn't too long and the location was pretty good. All in all it was a good stay and I strongly encourage people to stay here.

Room Tip: Although nice, the Savannah rooms aren't a must-there are viewing windows throughout the hallway...

Went to this hotel with wife and 2 kids, 11 and 9. Simply AMAZING from start to finish, can't fault this hotel in any way. Gr8 base for doing Disney parks and Universal, Recommend the Disney Dine package if you can get it free, we did and ate like Kings and Queens and saved a fortune, might have paid a little extra up front for the Holiday but was well worth it for the LUXURY accommodation If your doing Disney for the first time this is the way to go. Magic bands are also fantastic as they do everything from, get you into your room/parks, your Disney dining is also linked to it. My Disney Experience App is also good to book your fast passes and dining reservations.
