“Amazing waking up to zebras and giraffes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

We loved our stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge - how wonderful to wake up every morning and step out onto the balcony and see zebras, giraffes, and ostriches. The staff was always super courteous and quick to greet you every time you returned to the hotel. The room was very clean and each day the cleaning staff would have really creative arrangements for our daughter's stuffed animals and toys. We loved the pool and the atmosphere of this hotel. We felt like we were on an African Safari! Our only complaints were the beds could be hazardous to your shins when you bump into them and that the TV's did not have Disney Jr on them. How can Disney not have Disney Jr? Go figure!

We just returned from a stay at Disney's animal kingdom. We booked a standard room and to our surprise upon our request we were upgraded to a room with a balcony with all the animals outside our slider. We had giraffe's, Zebra;s and you name it every morning. Its surprising how clean they are kept. There is staff out there cleaning up the poop the minute it happens. No odor no flies and very quiet. You would think they would make noise but they do not make a sound. They keep those guys and gals very very clean and they are very happy being able to roam throughout the property. The room was clean and comfortable and they provide a fridge. The check-in was flawless and very quick. The staff was very courteous and very friendly.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade we have found Disney to be very accommodating if they have a better room availabl...

I have an excellent stay at Disney wilderness Lodge after a four day cruise with Disney. We had originally booked a standard room, but were graciously upgraded to a savannah view. The savannah view was awesome, however I would not pay the regular rate for the Savannah room view. They have multiple viewing stations located throughout the resort and the view is not worth the full price. The brunch located in the hotel was excellent. No complaint about this day!

We stayed in a two bed unit on 5th floor Arusha Savannah view. All DVC units are on 5th floor and Club rooms on 6th floor with key access from the lifts. Club lounge amenities run all day long but although we normally would value this amenity, at Disney we spend too much time away from hotel to benefit from the extra cost...spend on the view not Club is our advice.

Check in online before arrival to expediate check in, Bell Service have a large fridge so can hold all your luggage and shopping. If you want a particular room. Request online and then at check in, if unhappy with allocation..insist and offer to check in later and wait for the room you want and go enjoy that first day.

Pool is excellent at least 5 lifeguards at every moment. Activities all day long for the children both around the pool and enrichment lectures and tours. Plus when staying here there is extra safari tours that can be booked with concierge.

Restaurants...book every day in advance for your whole stay. Sounds drastic but it is easy to cancel and but on the day often difficult to get good times. We would always be just walking in past hoards of families waiting around with their bleepers. This resort has two of the 5pip tripadvisor restaurants so always packed.

Bomas is a Buffett, not amazing but solid consistent and suitable for children with lots of choice, especially deserts, Always rare roast beef, excellent ribs, grills. And salads.

Jika, exceptional, small portion but fine dining, two meals on the dining plan.

Sannaa(in Kidari Village) was our favourite. Definitely request and WAIT for window seating. Crazy birds, huge water ox, impala, zebra, giraffe etcetc all viewed during our early evening meal. Food is African spicy Asian. Tandoori, nan bread popadom, steaks, fish dishes. XI table service on plan.

The cafe on site at Jambo near the pool has great air con and offers salad and pickle, sauces to add to burgers etc. the food was surprisingly good in here. You select your main meal, gather your drinks, desserts, cakes or cookies. PAY then take a table and wait for the bleepers to go collect, so...hot food too. Flat breads make for thin crust Pizza. Stews. Chicken Pitta type menu. Very good.

Do the toasted marshmallow at the animal viewing point 5.45 to 6.45 ish. Children love it and they feed the giraffes at this time to bring them in, nice and close for photos.
The staff keep all the animals in excellent and clean condition, they do a great job clearing the bush so no flies or smells, a job well done.

All staff were excellent in all sections. Thank you.

Remember DVC we get 10 off in the shop, they ask for ID too.

Busses..no problems at all. Yes, frustrating that we kept going to Kidari first with a full bus for Jambo, but hey it's moments. There is a shuttle van to go between Jambo and Kidari to save the walk but for me not risking midge bites,,,

Jambo House is busier, bigger but older. Lots more activities.pool and bar more vibrant.
Kidari is more friendly, newer rooms and facilities, but pool further from main rooms, but great for small children.

Every time you walk back to your room and perhaps over the bridge in the main lobby at Jambo you can not help but to feel a wow this is special. Even our children, who really are spoilt for good hotels said WOW. Isn't this great. So yes this hotel is a must do at least once. The nighttime view binoculars that they use in the evenings are brilliant too.

We would visit again. Find some days to stay and enjoy the hotel facilities otherwise in our view you waste the money to stay here. If you are doing parks every day...stay elsewhere as you can get closer for less money. This hotel needs time to enjoy it.

Room Tip: Savannah view. Arushi is our choice. Get DVC points for 5th floor. 5373/75 were great.

Arrived way earlier than the check-in time and pleasantly surprised to find our room was all ready for us. We checked in online, so all our room keys were prepared, making the physical check in process a breeze. Upon entry, the carpets were still damp from being shampooed, but left the ceiling fans on and balcony door slightly ajar, and by afternoon, it was dry.

Lobby: Jambo House has an awesome lobby! Kidani's is much smaller in comparison and lacks the wow factor.

Rooms: We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa in Kidani Village overlooking the savanna. The rooms were spacious, layout well thought-out, modern and clean. Our sauté pan had a deep scratch in it, but housekeeping came within 15 minutes to replace it with a new one once we notified them. The local market at the lobby had the usual breakfast items at reasonable prices to purchase so we could save a little by preparing the first meal of the day in the villa. We chose to stay at Kidani instead of Jambo House because their two-bedroom villas have 3 bathrooms vs 2 at Jambo. It was comfortable for three families (with 5 kids in total). Although Jambo House is where the main entertainment and food is, we liked the quieter Kidani Village and the walk over to Jambo is not bad at all. Worse comes to worse, just take the shuttle bus or drive over. Oh, and wi-fi signals were surprisingly strong for a resort this size (well, our room was fine anyway).

Amenities: Washer and dryer was a nice convenience. Only comes with one load's worth of detergent, so plan ahead and buy your own or bring some from home. Bathrooms were well stocked with toiletries as well. Kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc if you choose to prepare your own meals.

Food: Both Jambo and Kidani have their own on-site restaurants, so there's no lack of sit down service if that's what you crave. We only went to the buffet at Jambo House, so that's the only one I can review.. it had something for everyone, so we all left there full with smiles on our faces. There's also more casual dining places by the pools for quicker service (usual fare).

Gyms: Both areas have them, next to the pools. Both well equipped. Folks staying there and staff are super friendly and courteous!

Pools: Kidani has its own pool and slide separate from Jambo (guests can use both). Jambo has a bigger pool, but also more crowded. Daily flyers are packed with poolside activities for the kids in both pool areas. At 7p each evening, Disney cast members bring out the marshmallows for roasting.

Garage: underneath the hotels! Keeps your cars cool in the summer. Once you figure out what part of the complex you're staying at, it's no effort to know where to park to be closest to your quarters. Each section is named with Lion King characters.

Savannas: If you're going to spend the money to stay at this resort, don't skimp on your views. Our kids really enjoyed waking up and seeing giraffes and ostriches, etc right out their windows and balconies. The animal caretakers spread their food throughout the savannah to lure the animals all over the space to insure all guests can have the best chance to see the animals as close as safely possible (no, not touching distance at all). Warning though.. guests are not allowed to throw food or objects to the animals. There are cameras overlooking the savannah. Savannas at Kidani and Jambo have different animals, but there are plenty of opportunities in common areas to view them. Disney has plenty of knowledgeable staffers to answer any questions about the animals and their habitats.

Morning of check out, we utilized Disney's onsite airline checkin services at the lobby and got our boarding passes and checked in our luggage so our time spent at the airport was less. Yay!

Possible gripes, but really non-issues for me: TV signal is still analog and not high-def, but no matter, we weren't there to watch television anyway. It is one of the farther resorts on Disney property, so the drive or shuttle bus rides to the other parks takes a few more minutes longer, but not a problem really. We used both car and shuttle bus to get around with no kids whining, and it wasn't an issue since both options were air-conditioned.

Room Tip: If you or your kids are bent on an particular safari animal, research which savanna view is best bec...

We were fortunate enough to be upgraded without asking, although we were staying for 2 weeks rather than 2 days. So a lovely gesture. The room was nice and was meticulously cleaned every day by the cleaning fairies (we never saw the maid).

All restaurants catered well for guests. There were 3, all offering different Disney dining plan options. The buffet style offers something for everyone, but if you are not adventurous with food you might struggle. Booking is imperative. Especially if you want a late night dinner after an exhausting day in the park. My husband hated the drumming, and I must admit the rhythm did stay in your head a bit, but hey this is Disney you need to be in the zone!

In true American style the staff cannot do enough for you. Our kids are 10 & 8 and they loved the pool and safely wondered around talking to the other guests in the jacuzzi and getting refill drinks.

We didn't try many of the activities as we were first time Disney guests as a family and there was too much to see and not enough time to see it all. However, we did do the night vision goggles which we all enjoyed.

We had a car and couldn't be doing with the free transport, but the buses seemed to be quite frequent. The hotel isn't as close to the action as other Disney hotels. It is close to Animal Kingdom of course, which turned out to be one of our favourite parks (you must see the Nemo theatre show).

All in all a lovely stay, somewhere to crash comfortably with a a bit of novelty thrown in. Nothing like seeing giraffes right outside your window.

My only suggestion would be that some evenings we wanted to eat in the room and watch a movie together but the hotel didn't have the facility to select movies without the crazy adverts every 3 minutes on mainstream tv.

Would I recommend - yes.

Would I go back - no.

We had an incredible time at the Jambo House (couple with 10 and 7 year old girls). We stayed for 4 nights in a room overlooking the Savannah with a queen bed and bunk beds for the kids - while the room was very small, the view day and night was worth it. The kids just loved it and never got tired of sitting on the balcony and watching the animals. The service was amazing and every staff member greeted us with a smile. We ate breakfast at the Mara every day and while they don't have a huge selection it was good enough and even had some healthier options. Our days consisted of going to the parks in the morning, coming back to the hotel to swim in the late afternoon, then hitting the parks again for dinner until they closed. The pool is very nice and the girls enjoyed the water slide. I hit the gym every day and was quite impressed with the amount of equipment and free weights they had. In the Mara, I highly recommend getting a souvenir cup for sodas - it is worth the money. Finally, the luggage service of getting your bags to/from the airport is a unique feature that the hotel offers and I highly recommend using it. It saved us a bunch of time and hassle. My only complaint is that the bus ride to/from the airport took 90 minutes which is just ridiculous when it is 10 miles away. They put 3 different Disney hotels in each bus and with the loading/unloading of passengers and bags, it was just too long. Next time I would pass on this service and arrange for my own transportation as it is a waste of time.

Room Tip: Worth paying for a room with a view of the Savannah. Really amazing.
