I have been to Walt Disney World many times. I've stayed at a bunch of the Disney resorts and this resort has by far been the best hotel I've ever stayed in. We had the Savannah view room, which was about $370 a night. The price was great for what the resort had to offer. Our stay was for 5 nights.
When we first arrived at the hotel, we were greeted and warmly welcomed to our home for the week. The staff did a really good job of making us feel at home. The lobby, it's well....Impressive! The fine African decor really goes into detail, even in some of the smallest of things. Our check in experience was quick and informative. We were given our room keys and hotel information. THIS IS IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ: The hotel doesn't let you have plastic straws from the theme parks, you have to dispose of them before entering the hotel. Also, balloons are not allowed on the property. If you will be staying here, DON'T buy balloons at the parks, they will not let you bring it into the hotel. The reason behind these rules is to prevent animals from eating them if they accidentally fall onto the savannah. In the restaurants, they give paper straws. They feel different, sort of weird when you are drinking from them, but after a day or two, you get use to it.
Our room was to perfection!!! I've never seen a cleaner hotel room in all of my traveling. The carpets were clean, bedsheets were super clean, and the bathroom looked as if it was never used. The whole room was spotless! Even the celling fan gets cleaned upon checkout (in a lot of hotels I've been to, they hardly clean the fan). During our stay, even our air filter was replaced. I've seen how they clean the room next door, and they did a thorough cleaning. The decor was really cool, especially the wallpaper in the vanity area. The telephone wire plates on the wall were even arranged to be a "hidden Mickey" as well as the carpets in the hallways. I also liked the mosquito nets on our beds. The room has a fridge and coffee maker, both of which were clean and worked well. There is also free wi-fi. Our sleep was amazing! The beds have the perfect amount of softness--not to firm and not too soft.
The pool was fantastic! The hotel does give free life jackets for toddlers, as well as sell swimming gear in The Mara. The pool has a waterside snack bar, slide, and even has a shallow area. There is also a pool lift for handicap guests and four Jacuzzis. The health and fitness center have really good workout machines and weight sets. The locker rooms also have a sauna and steam room. I also really liked the Arusha Rock savannah overlook and the sunset overlook. The Victoria Falls Lounge is another one of the great places to just chill in the resort. Zawadi Marketplace in the lobby, sells disney merchandise as well as merchandise exclusive to the resort. They also have the pin king come every weekday at 3 pm and you can trade pins with him. He has hundreds of pins and even some limited editions. The restaurants: Jiko and Boma were really good. Their food was delicious and really brought out the flavors of Africa. They are a bit expensive but really worth it. Breakfast, bakery items, candy and fast food are served in The Mara, however, breakfast finishes at 11 pm.
Everything during our stay was fantastic! Transportation to and from the theme parks (we visited three) and the waterparks was quick and efficient. Just remember, don't buy balloons at the the theme parks since they don't allow them to be brought into the hotel. I think you can keep balloons in your car, but it's REALLY hot in Florida and they will not survive the heat inside the car. Also, when you are at check-in, ask for a room on the third floor if you are booking a savannah view room. Third floor views are the best and aren't obstructed by trees as much as well as have direct access from the lobby without using the elevator. I do highly recommend this resort and I will definitely stay here again. If you have any questions about my review, feel free to contact me.
