Where do I begin? When I left Heathrow, I had no idea I was going to be in for the adventure of a lifetime! Things got to a bumpy start. after a long flight to los angeles, I was not ready to hear the news that the hotel (Sheraton) was sold out, and that we were moved to another hotel almost 40 minutes away! I was really concerned since it was late, and I had to be back to the Sheraton by 6am to meet our guide. When I got to the new hotel, I met other fellow angry travelers. This was not good. At 530 am , we met our guide at the new hotel. The group was ready to attack! Our guide (Reggie) was such a professional when dealing with the group! He handled our concerns, and got all all excited again about the tour. By the time we got to the airport, he had us laughing and creating friendships!
Our first stop was Monterey. We went on the whale watch, and Whales we saw (and fed :)! Do not do this if you are prone to sea sickness. Some people went to the aquarium instead (smart move!) 17 mile drive was lovely. Reggie gave great commentary and told great stories about the area. Our driver Emma was great as well. Such a personality! Dinner was ok. Hyatt was beautiful. It was our anniversary, and we found a personal greeting card and a wine and fruit basket from Reggie in our room! Nice Touch!
San Francisco was amazing. It was a rare clear day, so we were treated to a grand view from Twin Peaks! The beauty was breathtaking. We were so impressed with the knowledge of our guide throughout the trip. He seemed to be a local , everywhere! we felt lucky that our group was small and not overrun with complainers.
We arrived early to muir woods (avoided the morning crowds). The redwood were very impressive. Sonoma was a surprise. Didn't think it would be as beautiful as it was. The wine tasting was interesting. In my opinion, the wines were not that great.
Yosemite was a highlight of our trip. Absolutely dreamy! Waterfalls around, nature showing off a bit.
Utah was a real shocker. Zion was stunning. Reggie took us on a beautiful walk, and told us some local folklore stories. We were joking that he was going to start singing a indian song. He heard us, and started making one up! Lol!
Bryce was special. we loved our walk from inspiration point to sunset. Not enough time in Grand Canyon! We went to crowded tourist spots in the canyon. However the view from our plane made up for that. Vegas was out of control! The hotel was huge. Reggie was able to secure us fifth row seats for Elton John! WOW! We left America with new friends, life long memories, and a made up native american chant! Looking forward to the east coast trip next year!
TIP: Sit on the left side for best views!
