Sorry it took me so long to write this, but I just realized that I never posted a review!
OVERALL:
Your kids will definitely have the slime of their lives. The hotel was created for kids, not adults. Even with their "Nick at Night" area, I would never come to this hotel without kids. The noise level is atrocious. With that being said, here goes:
POSITIVES:
Holiday Inn? I think not. The 2 br suite we had was spotless and spacious. Lots of towels. Air conditioning problem fixed within 20 mins. Incredible customer service, even beyond what we've experienced at higher level hotels. Check in people amazing, friendly and fun. Tons of patience.
Pools and slides big attraction. Web site pictures are worthless compared to actually being there. Games all day in the pool. Lifeguards everywhere working extremely hard.
Big screen, and I mean big, swim up movies. Could actually see the movie from the 6th floor walkway. Staying at this hotel is literally like staying inside of a theme park. If noise is an issue, request the top floor away from the pool. We did this and heard a small amount of noise in the master bedroom and the living room during the pool hours. The 2br kids suites are set up so that the kids room has no window. There is also no door, but a curtain and a notice indicating that a door cannot be placed there. The living room and master bedroom have windows that face the walkway. There are no balconies. There is a kitchenette with microwave, sink and small fridge. Lots of shelving space in the bathroom, but basic area with shower/tub combo.
Washer and dryers available but busy.
Incredible security. Hotel has a video that runs 24/7 reminding kids about security. This video should be a STANDARD at every single hotel to remind not only kids but adults about safety while on vacation. No one is allowed to even visit the property unless staying there. Car issued pass upon check in and wrist bands to use water features. Security patrolled hallways. Hotel quiet in the evening once pools shut down.
On premises general store well stocked, kids spa (mani/ped/hair braiding - with ridiculous prices).
Hotel staff well prepared for storms. Evacuated entire pool area within minutes. Hotel policy: thunder? All pool areas closed. This is something I think every family should take into consideration when booking Orlando during the summer months. When it rains, lightning, thunder, most hotels shut their pools down completely. It was nice having the space to spread out with the tvs, video games and such in the room.
NEGATIVES:
The price is outrageous. If we didn't stay on points, I'd pick one of the suite hotels and take my kids to a water park for the day. The pool area is crowded, and I mean crowded. Lounge chairs are positioned literally one on top of, uh, I mean next to, each other lined up in rows. Tons of pool towels by the cartload at each pool, but you will need tons because each towel is very flimsy and small.
Check in is at 4, and they mean 4, so plan accordingly.
The elevators are extremely slow. We ended up climbing the six flights of stairs on most occasions.
The $10 breakfast buffet is a complete waste of money. It is more like a continental buffet. Plus with the amount of kids there at the buffet unsupervised, well, need I say more about which hand might be going into your food? The lines were very, very long. Right down the street is a Ponderosa buffet. I believe we paid 5 something a person. That buffet was very bountiful. We did the character buffet breakfast which I definitely would not do again. Not very themed, i.e., music wise, compared to other character breakfasts we've attended. Price wise I think it was 30 something a person, also overpriced.
Not a great place if you're a nervous person. We stayed for two days, but it felt like ten. Even my husband who never gets really rattled about anything was ready to pull his hair out from what he saw parents letting their kids do as well as what he saw parents doing (forms of discipline) to their kids. Rather than have the waterpark right in the center of the entire hotel, they would have been better served attaching the waterpark to the hotel. That way there could have been some sort of relaxation at the end of the day, some sort of unwinding. We did talk to a few parents who said they would never return because their kids would not sleep because the level of excitement is just non stop.
