My husband and I spent 8 nights in Orlando at this hotel, and after the 8th night I can honestly say I will never return to the Royal Plaza in the Downtown Disney location.
It started out great. We arrived a little after 4 and the front desk gentleman was incredibly sweet and helpful. We had no issues at all. He told us we would be on a fantastic floor (8th floor) and would have a view of the fireworks from Downtown Disney.
We got into our room and everything overall looked good. Everything was pretty much clean and fresh. I did find a random long hair on the side of the shower/tub, but I figured it wasn't a big deal.
That night we decided to take showers since we had been traveling during the day. Well, I found out immediately the shower/tub drain was clogged. VERY clogged. I took a quick shower and my husband had to wait about 5 minutes for the water in the tub to drain. Not a huge deal, since I figured they would fix it the following day. That following morning I called down to the front desk and spoke with a lady and told her about the drain/clog issue. She said she would send someone right away and it would be completed that day. When we arrived home that night after visiting the Disney world parks I again took a shower. And the drain was still clogged. Again, my husband had to wait several minutes for the drain to clear. So the following morning we went down to the front desk in person and spoke with a lady and she said someone would fix it right away. Thankfully they did fix it. No more issues with the drain, so that what a good thing!
In our Tower room there was a coffee maker and 1 packet of coffee when we first arrived at the hotel. The following day 1 packet of decaf was left but no regular coffee. The following day no coffee was left.
Being at a hotel, I would expect our bed linens to be changed at least 1x if not 2x while we were there seeing as we stayed there for 8 nights. Our first night was a Monday night. By Friday I noticed they had not changed the linens (there was a dirt mark on the bottom linen that was still there by Thursday), so I wrote a nice note to housekeeping asking them to change the linens. Oh, by the way, we left a tip for the housekeeping person every morning. When we came back that night they linens still had not been changed (although the bed was made). So, Saturday morning I tried calling housekeeping to ask them to change the linens, but no one answered. So, I called down to the front desk and asked them if we could have our linens changed and the gal said no problem. Well, we came home that night and our linens were still not changed! And the housekeeping person didn't bother leaving us any towels or coffee! They made our beds and threw out the trash and took our dirty towels, but didn't leave any clean towels! Oh, and we didn't have any toilet paper left either. Normally in a hotel (at least in the past when I've stayed at other hotels) housekeeping leaves an extra roll for you. Not them. So, it's around 5 pm and I call down to the front desk and I talk with a gentleman and tell him I've already asked before and tell him about the toilet paper and the towel issue along with the bed linens. He says it will get taken care of within an hour. We go out to dinner and come back around 9 pm and guess what?!!! The towels are still not there, nor is the toilet paper (or the coffee) and the linens still aren't changed!!! So, I am mad and I ride the elevator back downstairs and talk with a gentleman (and a lady was there along with a gentleman at the side) and ask them for help. I tell them we have been here since Monday, so it's going on 6 nights without the bed linens being changed even though I've asked several times - what does a guest need to do in order to have them changed?!!! The lady asks me if I want them changed tonight. I say yes, because to be honest, I'm afraid if I wait until Sunday they will forget again. So the gentleman standing by me says he will change them for us along with bring up towels and coffee. About 5 minutes later he comes up and says he will change them for us and asks us to leave for about 10 minutes. We come back and he's putting up the finishing touches of the bed. We tip him $5 and thank him. I take a shower and then I pull back the covers and guess what?!!! The linens haven't been completely changed - just the top sheet...the bottom sheet which has the dirt on it is still there!!!! Um....I'm about ready to explode! But it's 10:30 and I'm tired and by this time I just don't care anymore. I'm starting to feel like if you complain at this hotel, you better be prepared to have to pay. Well, the next day we leave and then come back and again, there are no towels! And the linens haven't been changed. Oh, by the way, that gentleman who "changed" our sheets told us to write notes to the housekeeping staff because they won't change the sheets without a note - they will just keep making the bed because they don't know how long you will be there. Um, sure... We tried it Sunday morning and as I said above, they didn't change the sheets and didn't leave towels. I'm annoyed, so I call down and speak with the same gentleman that I spoke with in person the night before. I tell him there are no towels and the guy they sent up the night before didn't change the sheets because the same dirt is on them. I could tell he could tell I was angry. I asked him what a guest has to do in order to get service. And I asked him how many times a guest has to ask for something in order for it to happen. He apologized and said he would let management know. He said he would have housekeeping come up to change the sheets. About 25 minutes later she comes up and gives us towels and puts the linens down on the bed and starts to leave the room. Um, she's not going to change them for us! I ask her to help me change them. And I find out something funny. She brought 1 bottom sheet and 1 top sheet and a blanket, but no new pillow cases and this is the funniest part - there are 2 beds in our room! She brought only 1/2 of the bedding for 1 bed! I don't argue/etc. because it's around 10 again and we are tired. But I realized I had to do my own housekeeping while on vacation at that hotel! The next day we arrive back again at the end of the day (it's Monday again) and find only 1 bath towel and 4 hand towels. And no coffee. By this time I don't care because we take off the next morning and it's obvious this hotel staff doesn't care about its guests.
Check out was a breeze. The gentleman at the counter was nice, but it was obvious "management" was never involved in the issues we had, even though I was told otherwise. But that's okay, because we had a blast outside the hotel!
So, I recommend this place only if you don't like being treated like a guest and if you like doing your own housekeeping!
