Last November I've been to the Disney-MGM Studios with part of my family. This was the first time for me and my husband.
The first attraction we went to was The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Great ride, the queue is great and the drop is really a surprise. Since you don't really know when you're going to fall, you don't get goosebumps like in Doctor Doom's Fearfall (in Islands of Adventure).
After that we went to Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith. I didn't really enjoyed the ride, I think I was expecting way much more. I'm not tall and my knees couldn't stop hitting the front seat. It's awesome when the car leaves, extremely fast, but then it get's pretty boring. For dark rides, I still prefer Space Mountain.
Then we get to the shows: Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage, Voyage of The Little Mermaid... they are nice shows, but it's the kind of show you don't have to see twice. I would problaby see the Beauty and Beast show again, but I could pass the others. Lights, Motors, Action! is a very interesting show, you can see how they make all those dangerous scenes with cars. The Indiana one is funny, but kinda of silly. The Little Mermaid show is horrible. It's a 15 minute show, one minute we have Ariel as a fish and the next minute she's already a human. They mix the production with scenes from the movie and it did not came out great. It felt like they were rushing things. They should really replace that. The only nice thing is the theater.
Another big waste of time was The Great Movie Ride. I was almost begging to get out of it. It's a 20min ride with all these audio-animatronic figures in scenes from famous movies... but the thing is, the audio-animatronics look so very old!! I mean, I can take those old things from Spaceship Earth because it's a classic... but The Great Movie Ride?... C'mon. After passing through lots of borings dolls, they stop the car and start doing this gangsta thing, where a live actor comes and start shooting the car, dolls, etc. Pretty lame too. In the end, they make us watch 3 minutes of scenes from lots of movies... Even if my feet were killing me, I wouldn't use this ride to get some rest.
We also watched the Playhouse Disney show. I love Bear and I had to see it. It's cute, but it's a pitty you can't take a picture with Bear after the show. I think it's because of the strings in his arms.
The Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour is nice, you get to see people working in the offices inside the park, making props, etc. They also have great memorabilia from movies, like that fountain from Splash!.
We had lunch at the ABC Commissary. They sell a variety of food there, from burgers to noodles. You can also see props from ABC shows (like Lost) and watch their TV series.
At the end of the day we went to The Magic of Disney Animation, where a nice old man shows how animated films are made with the help of that dragon from Mulan. It's a nice place to get some rest.
Then we got our seats to see Fantasmic!. It was raining a little bit, but in the middle of the show it started raining A LOT. Lots of people decided to leave (including me) and a few minutes later they cancelled the presentation. Although I didn't get to see everything it looked like it would be a great closure, specially because this was the first time I saw the Pocahontas character (my favorite one) as one of the main attractions in a Disney show.
We waited for the rain to stop in this candy store. They sell candy apples, brownies and every kind of chocolate there. Kinda of expensive, but really tasty.
From all of Disney's parks, I think that the Disney-MGM Studios is the most relaxing one. It's not that big like EPCOT, you can walk through the whole park in a hour or so. You just seat and enjoy the presentations.
