“Great for Large Families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2005

Old Key West is a large disney resort. It has the largest living area of all the Villas. We stayed in a two bedroom and the living room and other rooms are HUGE!!. If you need a two bedroom ask for a "dedicated one." They are set up much better then one that is connected. The rooms have everything and the setting is beautiful. The main pool has a slide, but the second pool by turtle shack has a great playgroung for the kids. We had kids ages 6 through 12 with us. Old Key West is close to downtown Disney and you can take a bus that leaves every 30 minutes. The food at this resort is great and they have two activite clubs for the kids. The drawbacks is its a HUGE resort. If you are not in building 14 or 23 you will have to drive or take their shuttle to get to the hotel lobby and main pool. Builing 40 is by the second pool. If you stay at this resort you need a car. Disney transportation is slow from here. It could take you 30 minutes to get to Magic kingdom by the time you wait for a bus, drive there, walk, ect. Do not get a studio. It is just a glorified hotel room. Better to stay at a closer resort and just have a regular room. But is you need a villa, and a big one, and being close to everything, pool, lobby, does not matter then Old Key West is a good choice.

Our family went to Walt Disney World in 2001 and absolutley enjoyed our stay at Disney's Old Key West Resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. We got a beautifully firnished first-floor villa that was clean, roomy, and kid-friendly. The weather was gorgeous, giving us a chance to enjoy the lake view from the balcony. The kitchen appliances looked new and my kids enjoyed the large television in the comfortable family room. Our two bedrooms were clean and comfortable-and just fit the price.

The pool was large and was at the right temperature for May. The bridge up top was interesting and so was the sandplay area. The towel/bike rental and ice cream shop were convienent on those hot days. And besides this, the resort's location is top-notch-less than two miles from Downtown Disney.

We will definetly stay here again the next time we vacation in Walt Disney World.

Old Key West is our favorite resort in the Orlando area. We have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to stay at resorts outside and inside of Disney and we keep coming back to Old Key West. We enjoy the laid back and relaxed atmosphere, the convenient free transportation to the parks, the fitness center, the walking trails, and so much more!

The room rate is not cheep but we have been given “points” by Family that are Disney vacation club members or have rented points, see link

------

That has made the stay more affordable.

Each studio room has a coffee maker, toaster, microwave and fridge. The one & two bedroom villas have a full kitchen. If you call before you arrive they will even have the groceries you would like to purchase in your room. They also maintain clean picnic areas near the pools so that you can have a family cook out. I can already hear some folks saying “the last thing I want to do on vacation is cook” but if you go out for dinner it is nice to take back left-over food to heat up for lunch the next day or to have breakfast in your room before hitting the parks.

Old Key West offers a beautiful “feature pool” with a water slide and playground nearby. We rarely frequent this pool as the resort also offers 3 other pool areas that are quiet & relaxing. Each pool area has a hot tub and small playground as well as a free laundry facility.

The Old Key West resort is spread out and interwoven with a golf course and waterways connecting to lake Buena Vista. We enjoy this aspect as it allows you to park near your room and to walk around and enjoy the wonderful landscaping.

If you are just looking for a cheep room to crash in after spending all day at the parks this is probably over kill for you but if you want a resort to spend some time at relaxing while in Orlando this is the place!

As soon as we walked in we realized that this was well worth what we paid for. The living room was spacious, and the bathrooms were GIGANTIC! The staff was great! it was very close to Epcot, where we ran the 2005 Disney Half-Marathon. I would go back in a heartbeat!

We stayed at Old Key West 1/30 - 2/4/05 in a 2 bedroom villa. We have stayed here a few times now and it is still our favorite. We have been members of the Disney Vacation Club for 5 years and have stayed at a lot of Disney hotel/resorts. We started for 4 days at Boardwalk and ended with 5 days at OKW and it is like a different world at Old Key West. The rooms at Old Key West are much bigger that other Disney resorts. It is really quiet there. You park right at your door, so no valets or bell hops to support (you will probably want a car if you are staying here). There is also a new water slide at the main pool that is nice. My only complaints are that they need a new playground and "Victoria's" food is not as good as it used to be. But, who cares? There are 100's of places to eat at Disney so eat somewhere else. The bus service is slower than the other resorts so keep this in mind. Old Key West is the place to go if you want relaxation and peace. This is my husbands favorite Disney resort by far and he doesn't even golf. Will be back again and again.

We just returned from a one week stay and had a terrific time. The people couldn't have been nicer from the reception desk to the lifeguards at the pool. Our room was in the back of the property, but witht the internal transportation we could be at the Hospitality house in a matter of minutes!
Our room was clean and well kept. The washer and dryer came in handy and the full kitchen was well equipped.
We really would consider "coming home" to Old Key West again. They sure made you feel welcome!

After driving 20 hours with two cars and 8 people, we arrived at OKW. The first words we heard at the front gate was, "Welcome Home."

At check-in (we were hours early) we found our villa ready for us. We requested a first floor villa near a bus stop along with a wheelchair. Everything was just as we had asked. It was breathtaking! We had a two bedroom villa with two full bathrooms, full kitchen, laundary room, and a porch off of the living room with a beautiful view of the golf course and our own pond with a fountain. We had fresh towels everyday! We felt like we were "Home."

We had so many questions since we had never been to Disney. Workers at the front desk and in the store were so friendly and helpful. They even helped us mail postcards to friends back home.

The bus service to all the parks were excellent! Buses from each park came around every 10 minutes. We also could take the boat to Downtown Disney. It is so beautiful at night.

Our 6-day stay was perfect. Our 10 and 17-year old children had the best experience of their lives. We were fortunate to bring both sets of grandparents with us. Old Key West Resort made our first trip to Disney perfect! We were "Home." Thank you OKW. We will be coming "Home" again and again.
