“Family Fun in Old Key West”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Our family enjoyed our stay at Old Key West for the roominess in our 2BR suite, proximity to amenities and the pool. We checked in online so were a little disappointed we had a number of hours to sit around before our room was ready, not fun with a baby after a long drive but will make sure we know an accurate check-in time for the future and we will be back. Our son & his family enjoyed it so much they bought a DVC.

Room Tip: First floor suites are best if you travel with children and I'd ask to be close to the pool whic...

We are Disney Vacation Club members and usually stay at Saratoga Springs (our home resort) or Boardwalk (for Epcot convenience). But this was a quick trip as a stopover and we chose Old Key West. This was our second time there so we knew what to expect. This is without a doubt the largest accommodation of the DVC offerings in Orlando. The studio is quite large and roomy and would easily be comfortable for a family of four. The microwave/frig area is well appointed for coffee and quickie eating. Our studio on this trip was near the hospitality house. It was beautifully furnished and everything is nearly brand new since it has been recently updated. Be aware that the units designated as near the hospitality house do not have elevators but the others do. Bed was very comfortable and quiet. Transportation to and from the resort seemed slow at times but it could be because of the season. Unlike some of the other DVC accommodations, there is no direct walk to any of the parks so you do have to rely totally on the transportation. There is a launch as well as buses to Downtown Disney but after waiting for 15 minutes for the launch, when it arrived, the captain said he would not be going back to downtown because of weather. So be aware they can cancel if they perceive a weather problem. Olivia's cafe had excellent service and good food. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Hospitality area rooms are convenient to restaurant and transportation but no elevators.

Stayed at old key west for the weekend. Loved the resort. This is the second time we have stayed there and loved it both times. The suites at the resort were huge. Favorite suite at Disney so far. Transportation from the resort is on site. You can take the bus to the parks. You can also take the boat to downtown Disney. Had no problems with either.

Just spent 10 days in Old Key West in a spacious 2-bedroom villa. Clean, comfortable and well appointed. Plenty of space for a family of four. Kitchen was huge and well-equipped. Very nice for breakfast and breaks during the heat of the day. Used the buses quite a bit, but also rented a car to get around when time was short or we were dressed for dinner. The staff was very courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. This is a quiet resort, but an array of activities are available. Breakfast and dinner at Olivia's was first rate. We stayed in building 45 (which we requested because it very quiet) with a view of the river and very little traffic. It was a 6 to 7 minute walk to the Hospitality House, and a three minute walk from two bus stops. We used Magical Express, so bags were left in our rooms while we went out to dinner. Guest services picked up our bags the morning of departure and we did not see them again until we arrived at our home airport. We have stayed in several Disney properties. This was the quietest and most relaxing.

We arrived at the resort on Saturday nite. Had dinner at Olivia's where the menu had something for just about everyone. I liked the option of eating healthy. The salmon Salad was tasty and just the right size. The rooms at this place are ENORMOUS. What a nice place. We have a suite with two queens and a king size bed, enough roon for the whole family. The shuttle bus is convenient. It's nice not having a rental car and walking three miles to the different parks. So far so good.

We recently visited Disney World with out daughter and grandchildren and stayed at a villa in Old Key West. This resort was one of the few with two-bedroom villas with two baths that was large enough to accommodate the five of us in two bedrooms. The parking outside the door was a definite plus and when we used the Disney bus it was fairly easy and quick. Some reviews we read said that the buses made several stops when going from one park to another but the ones we rode went directly from the resort to the park and were very quick - the only delays were occasional waits for a bus to arrive to pick you up. Since there were no stops there was really no noticeable difference in the ride to parks that were supposed to be close and those further away. The rooms in the villa were clean, spacious, the kitchen was well equipped, and the full size washer and dryer was a bonus. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony each morning also. The bathrooms were quite large with two rooms in each bathroom with vanities in each room. The doors between rooms were heavy and ensured privacy as well as letting the kids sleep in while we were up getting coffee made in the morning. On the downside, the resort is quite large and we had to take a bus to return to the main area where the pool, marketplace, and food was located. This was inconvenient but not really too annoying. All in all, this was a great place to stay and a good price and we will be staying there again if we visit Disney.

Room Tip: We enjoyed a room on the top floor - no noise and nice view from the balcony but no elevator. Ask f...

This was my second time to the Florida WDW Resort but it was my first time staying on-site. I was really looking forward to the high quality experience I expect from the Walt Disney Company. The hotel resort was huge and had lots of activities for all ages dotted around, from several swimming pools, tennis courts, games room and they even screened a Disney film every night outside which was really nice. The resort is just very relaxing and has a certain charm to it, the soft colour palate for the buildings is colourful and charming. The relaxing atmosphere was really appreciated after a long day at the parks with all the crowds, so surreal to go from a busy and loud atmosphere to a slow and quiet place within such a small time period.

Our room had two very large double beds, a small table and chairs, a very small kitchenette and a large bathroom. We even had a little balcony over-looking one of the many lakes. The beds were very comfortable and I had the best sleep I've had in a very long time.

The kitchenette was a nice little addition and actually came in handy. I approved of the large bathroom too. The room was also equipped with a HD TV and DVD player, it took us a few days to find the guide as you can't access it via the remote, it has its own channel on the TV.

Unfortunately for us we had a little issue with some piping (we're still not sure what it was) where by it leaked through the ceiling, luckily not near where we were sleeping but just in the kitchenette area. It was a little annoying but not a disaster for our stay here. We notified reception who sent out an engineer who was able to fix the issue. Fantastic.

I'd highly recommend this hotel to others, whether just a couple of friends, a couple or a family it's a fantastic place to stay. The staff are amazing too, very friendly people who are always willing to help.

Travelling about was fun too, we loved getting the very relaxing boat to Downtown Disney, it may take longer than the bus but it's so much more relaxing. We also walked to Downtown too which was very easy once you know where the walkway is. Buses to all the parks were very regular and the longest we waited was probably about 10 minutes, fantastic service.
