We just got back from Disney World(Mar.20-28). Just my husband & I went & had a wonderful but exhausting time.
We stayed @ The Caribbean Beach Resort. It was a lovely resort with lots of foliage. The room size was great for the 2 of us. If you have a physical challenge like I have ask for a room in Martinique (Rm. 2552). We were on the 2nd. floor with a view of the small white sandy beach across the walkway. Also we were right next door to Port Royale, which houses the food court, Shutters, the full service restaurant, & the 2 gift shops.
The food from the food court was okay like any fast food service. The dinner we had @ Shutters was surprisingly good. The alcoholic drinks from the bar outside were expensive but yummy.
The gift shops were always stocked with lots of neat Disney stuff comparable to any of the other Disney shops in the parks. The cost of items is the same everywhere. Souvenirs aren't cheap so before you go with kids, talk about the amount they can spend & help them priortize what they want. Otherwise you'll end up fighting with them(learned from my times with our son)
The food plan was a wonderful stress free way to sample different types of cuisine @ WDW. It was paid for before we left so we didn't have to worry about the cost. Of course there will be a few meals you'll end up having to buy when you use your food plan but ohterwise it's a great deal. We were pleasantly surprised @ the quality of food.
We hightly recommend The California Grill which uses 2 table service meals. The neat thing there is you can go out on the observation deck & watch the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom. They pipe in the music. It was an unforgettable experience.
We had 3 character meals. We highly recommend The Crystal Palace if you or your kids are into Winnie The Pooh. We've been there for breakfast & dinner & found the food to be really good. We went to 1900 Park Fare @ The Grand Floridian. We went for 9 a.m. & got to visit with Mary Poppins & friends a few times. Chef Mickey's was another great experience. At each place they take the time to sign autographs & take a picture with whoever is in your party.
Other places we recommend if you like different taste experiences are: Boma @ The Animal Kingdom Lodge, an African flavour, Spoodles on The Boardwalk, a Mediterranean flavour.
The counter service meals were okay. What can you expect from fast food. The snacks you can have are limited.
If you have food allergies, you will find WDW very accomodating. I have a dairy allergy. Before going make sure when you phone to reserve the restaurants to tell them. They'll give you the no. of the food & beverage manager. Call & leave a message telling them of your concerns. They'll flag it on your reservations so the staff knows.
I didn't do that but was advised next time to do so. In spite of that they still did their best. I told the hostess & she marked it down so the waitress or waiter could tell the chef. The chef then comes out & walks you through the menu or the buffet. The chef @ 1900 Park Fare made me a wheatless & dairy free Mickey waffle which was awesome. The chef @ Boma made me a dairy free dessert which was very yummy. The chef @ The California Grill adapted my food choices for me.
Disney entertainment is awesome. We really enjoyed Mickey's Philharmagic @ The Magic Kingdom, The Lion King Show @ The Animal Kingdom, The Fanatasmic Show @ MGM, & Beauty & The Beast @ MGM. All the parades & firework displays are just incredible. Just warn the kids that in order to get a good spot to watch these shows, etc., you have to line up early.
If you're going with kids warn them that they might have a wait to get onto the rides. It might be a good idea to pack a few things to entertain them while waiting to get on the rides. It's hard for them to wait when they're so excited to be there. Try to be patient even when they get whiny about waiting.
We felt Fast Pass should be called reservation pass. Even though you got on a ride faster for some of the popular lines you still had to wait a bit. Often when you get a pass your time for the ride may be a long way away. Still it helps so that you are guaranteed a spot to see it.
They are also great with people with challenges. I had to use a wheelchair because of my challenges. They were very accomodating & helpful. We also found out that if you need to rent the chair for several days that they charge you $2 a day less for rental fee. Keep your receipt if you go from 1 park to another as you won't get charged again. No, you don't need a letter to prove that you need a chair.
For those without kids Epcot is a great place to hang out. We took advantage of looking @ the street performances which were excellent. Also nice to be able to have a drink @ the various countries.
At Epcot don't miss Soaring. It is a wonderful ride. Test track was fun. My husband did Mission Space & said it was a good ride but he felt nauseous the rest of the day. So remember if you have any motion sickness problem, skip it. Some of the movies in World Showcase are really good.
I always wanted to go to WDW with just my husband. I wasn't disappointed. It was so great to be in my "happy place".t
