Just returned from a week's stay. The Magic Kingdom, MGM, Blizzard Beach and Animal Kingdom were all fine. Things for people of all ages to enjoy with AK and MGM being particularly enjoyable for our pre-teen boys. One annoying feature was the store at the exit of most rides that you must pass through. As if there wasn't enough merchandise being pushed everywhere else in the park.
EPCOT was a ersatz world's fair. Some good rides such as Soarin and Test Track but the rest was corporate sponsored ticky tacky. If you have decent museums, Discovery Place-type facilities or aquariums within a reasonable drive, go there and bypass this place. The international exhibitions were a joke - one food court after another. "Fish & Chips" at the UK, "General Tso's Chicken" at the China pavillion. Wow - you never see food like that anywhere, except at your local mall. At the USA pavillion, you guessed it, McDonald's!
The parks are always crowded. I can deal with long lines for popular rides (and FastPass is a blessing) but the crowds are so big you cannot simply enjoy the facilities. It is like Grand Central Terminal or Penn Station at rush hour 10 hours a day. I know the Disney accountants want to keep as many people there as possible, I doubt there is even a limit to how many people they'll let in. If park attendence was lower by one-third or capped at a reasonable level (I know, dream on), it would be a much more enjoyable experience.
The big issue with Disney is service. All the parks and hotels are terribly uncoordinated. The staff is trained to pass you off and move you along. "I'm sorry" and "I understand (your frustration)" are trained responses, not "I will handle/resolve it." Bus service is poor, every 20 or 25 minutes, but no schedule and accountability. You will wait longer.
Avoid the Disney property hotels, the only benefit is the extended park hours (at certain parks on certain days) but they are not worth the added cost. Most are still a bus ride away from the parks and you can stay at a Ritz or JW Marriott for the same money or less, see more of Orlando (Universal and Sea World) and get your money's worth on lodging.
