“Unfortunate disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

We have always stayed on Disney property but chose to take the educators discount offer the hotel was advertising. Wish I had stuck with Disney.

Pros: Beautiful hotel, great pool, excellent business facility, clean rooms

Cons:

So many conventions at the same time including a huge one from Dell that the number of people on their phones and in business attire made vacationers like ourselves feel very awkward walking through the hallways. Very, very formal, loud, and extremely busy. Bustling every which way.

The bussing is completely inadequate to and from Disney. There is a schedule of when the bus picks up, but what they don't tell you is how long your trip will take to the park or to get back to the hotel. The animal kingdom bus brought us to magic kingdom first. Ridiculous. When we grabbed the bus from magic kingdom to go back to the hotel it not only stopped at Epcot, but also Disney studios. So, what should have taken 15-20 minutes took nearly an hour...which made us late for breakfast and dinner reservations. The Epcot bus was 20 minutes late as well, so the schedule isn't really a schedule.

I got a $109 educator rate, which was excellent and opted for the $7 a night Disney view. Please do not waste your money on the Disney view. To see the fireworks, all three of us had to stand to one corner of the room and basically press our faces against the glass to get a view. So silly.

When I got the bill on check out, it said nightly rate of $116. I thought, ok, that is correct, but then there was another itemization for $7 each night for the view. They tried to double charge us. I'm so glad I noticed. I went to the front desk and it took the poor clerk about 20 minutes to go line by line to fix the mistake. Of course we are trying to get to the airport on time for an early flight.

The educator rate said it came with "no resort fee". Well....they don't have a resort fee so that is just false advertising. I thought maybe that meant no parking fee or no internet fee or something, but no, Internet was $10 a day and parking was $13. Again, getting nickel and dimed. Why advertise something that isn't a thing.

They have NO guest laundry facility on property. We were on vacation for 9 days and midway through, we actually had to bring our clothes over to the new Art of Animation resort around the corner just to do our laundry. Really.

The harvest bistro meal was Dreadful. My salmon was extraordinarily dry and fishy. None of us liked our meals at all, and we are usually happy with just about anything. Not picky people.

If you are there for business, great. Just check your bill. If you are looking for a vacation at Disney, go to a Disney hotel. We won't make that mistake again.

Room Tip: Higher level rooms are nice

We have had two great experiences here. Literally on Disney property, so it is a great alternative to a Disney resort. Room was clean and comfortable, no balconies, and generic, but good for our needs. Can't say enough about the pool. Nice zero entry and lazy river (you can bring you own tubes, or buy or rent them there). During the summer they had activities, games and crafts by the pool, and a movie at night. Hilarious to see all the kids floating in tubes in the dark watching Rio. The hotel is VERY good about reserving chairs. Nothing aggravates me more than 20 chairs with nothing but towels and tubes on them while people are in the parks. Some hotels won't do anything about it (JW Marriott). Here, they put a card down and if it is still there in a hour, they remove the stuff to make room for other guests. Even when very crowded (4th of July weekend) they were very helpful in finding chairs or even a folding chair to use in the meantime. Had fireworks the Sat after the 4th that we viewed from the pool before the movie.

On another visit they had the kids make breakfast in bed for mothers day (heart pancakes) -nice touch.

Overall a great resort and will come back again.

Room Tip: Pool view is very nice!

We stayed at the hotel for two weeks beginning of June. My husband and I are very picky when it comes to staying in hotels. The hotel was faultless. The food was very good and we had 20% off food and beverages being Virgin customers. The hotel was very close to all Disney attractions. The only downside to the holiday was the weather, we had tail end of a hurricane and a tropical storm! My children are already asking me when can we go again!!

Carefully weigh the pros and potential cons of this review. My experiences at Hilton properties and their franchise partners have been pretty negative (see my review/rant a few years ago about the Embassy Suites in East Syracuse for an example). Here goes:

BACKGROUND: When we vacation with kids in Orlando we find it convenient to stay in hotels and resorts inside the Disney and Universal spaces. Regular vacationers and travelers know that these properties are generally okay at best, with rooms and service being average to mediocre, and staff performance dropping off when it is busy. This time around we had the good rate at the Hilton and various friends had stayed here before with good things to say about it. So I gave it a cautious try.

POSITIVE: The Hilton appears to be part of a convention complex with a Waldorf-Astoria so they try to keep up with the brand experience. There is an elegant, spacious lobby with a nice casual pub area, comfortable seating and a good spot to unwind with a snack at the end of the day. There are other restaurants in the hotel but this seems the best option to me if you eat in the hotel. Rooms were clean, standard modern hotel decor; the view, for Orlando, was pretty decent at a higher floor. The all important comfort level of the bed for a kid vacation was met. If you golf there is a course next to the hotel. Access by car to the attractions is easy and, while we did not use it, there is supposed to be a shuttle service that will take you to the Magic Kingdom. The pool is probably the best thing about the hotel. As other reviewers note this is a lazy river pool with a current that moves you around a winding path. It is a fairly large area if the place is not working during a peak season, but if it is really busy I suspect it may feel crowded. The staff around the pool area were the most friendly and responsive of all personnel during our stay.

CONS/POTENTIAL DOWNSIDE: Some service issues at a hotel cafe and a restaurant--the typical excuse making and slow pace you associate with hotels in the area (you may be best off in the lobby pub). We tried to eat at one of the restaurants for breakfast and the wait line was substantial when it was clear that there were many available tables, and we just gave up on the wait. This is significant as we visited on a weekend between busy dates when occupancy appeared to be pretty low. They may have trouble keeping up during peak vacation periods.

Summary: I still make Hilton properties a low priority when booking but for a short stay (2-3 nights) in the Disney/Universal area in Orlando, this Bonnet Creek is a decent choice. An elegant if somewhat sterile setting, comfortable rooms, nice pool. Staff performance inconsistent but decent enough relative to other locations--it may suffer in quality when it is busy. If you plan a vacation here look for off-peak as you would for any location in the area and this may make Hilton Bonnet Creek a worthwhile option.

Room Tip: 1) Try to get a higher floor on the pool side. It was still quiet when we went. In addition to the...

We've just returned from our stay at the Hilton Aug 2012.

Positives - spacious rooms, clean and good maid service. Lazy river is excellent, especially for children as its no deeper than 4ft, slide and jacuzzi also really good. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful.

Negatives - the hotel is primarily aimed at business users and can become exceptionally noisy and crowded, particularly at night in the bar area. Drinks and food are expensive and not of particular high standard at the beach bar. Unfortunately, we had a number of things stolen from around the pool area and when reporting this to staff very little assistance was offered.

Overall this is a good hotel but due to the overwhelming amount of conventions during our stay we would look elsewhere to stay when next in Orlando.

This hotel was amazing! I would like to start off by saying my husband and I are very particular about where we stay. The hotel staff was so friendly. If we needed anything: towels, help getting around, etc. they were fantastic. If you need anything at all, just ask, someone will help you. The shuttles to Disney were magnificent, very clean and on time. We didn't have to stop a hundred other places either, just the Hilton and Waldorf, which are connected. We never made it to the pool (but it was very pretty) because we were always so busy, but we did eat lunch at the pool restaurant which was really good. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to go to Disney. We didn't even rent a car. My husband said the best part was he didn't have to drive anywhere, and we went to all the Disney Parks, Downtown Disney, Sea World, and the Outlets.

Room Tip: You can't really see anything for a Disney view room.

Excellent stay at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are modern and comfortable. We got a room on the 6th floor with pool view and we could also see the Disney fireworks at night. The staff was very professional. We found that the breakfast was not worth $20, since it had just the regular items, eggs, fruit etc, nothing special. The pool and the lazy river is fabulous, my daughter really enjoyed it. Overall a good stay and we will definitely book this hotel again.
