“Great Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2005

My family of 4 stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside from June 26-July 3rd. This was our first visit to one of the WDW properties. First of all, what people have written about the landscaping is true- absolutely beautiful. The different variety of trees and plants, the wildlife, the river- was truely like staying on a southern plantation. We ate at the River Mill a few times, and the food is good- although somewhat pricey (although the prices were not out of line with food all around Disney). The best deal going is the cinnamon rolls-they are out of this world and reasonably priced. I would recommend stopping at a grocery store before getting to the resort and stocking up on lunchmeats, bread, etc, as that will save you a few bucks, and there are small refrigerators in the rooms (there was in ours anyway). I would recommend bringing some 2 liter bottles of soda also; even though there are free refills on the soda, hot chocolate, coffee, etc. if you buy the $11.99 length-of-stay refillable mug, it can be a long walk to the dining hall to fill up the mug. WDW offers a great transportation system; we rarely had to wait more than 10 minutes for a ride anywhere within WDW. The feature pool is awesome, with a nice water slide and water pouring down on you at some places from above; my children couldn't get enough. We are making plans to come back again next year!

We stayed at Port Orleans-Riverside (POR) in early April 2005. This was our first stay at POR, second trip to Orlando. There are 2 sections at POR; Magnolia Bend and Alligator Bayou. We were in a nonsmoking room in the Magnolia Bend Section, about a 5-minute walk from the main building. The room had plenty of space for 2 adults and 1 child. The room was equipped with 2 double beds, a television, small round table with 2 chairs, and a small fridge. The bathroom was small with toilet and shower/tub but there was a nice area outside the bathroom with 2 sinks/mirrors and a curtain which could be pulled which made it easy for one person to be getting ready while another using the shower/toilet. The room was clean and housekeeping had always come before we had returned from the parks in the afternoon.

There were many activities at POR including 1 main pool with a slide and many spraying fountains and a spa along with several satellite pools around Magnolia Bend and Alligator Bayou. We spent much of our time in the quiet pools which were spacious and less active, easier to keep an eye on a child. Among other activities were bike rentals, boat rentals, an arcade, and horse drawn carriage rides at an extra cost of course; and if you like to walk or jog, the grounds are beautiful with nice walkways and many trees and flowers.

The bus transportation was very efficient to the parks. We never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus. There was also boat service to Downtown Disney that was very convenient for a meal or shopping.

The Riverside Mill Food Court at POR was great with many selections to please everyone. It was a little pricey but comparable to other WDW eateries. There was also a restaurant, Boatright's Dining Hall, which we never ate at but always had many customers. Fulton's General Store was wonderful for souvenirs or snacks but also had baby items, non-prescription medications, film, and other convenience items.

Overall beautiful well-kept grounds with a friendly helpful staff making it a nice place to stay.

This is simply an excellent hotel. We chose Riverside over staying at one of the budget hotels and are so glad we did. The landscaping is awesome and the rooms were neat and well stocked. When the room maid realized we had 4 in the room she left extra towels and soaps for us. There are several quiet pools around the complex so we didn't have to be around splashing if we didn't want to. We will definitely stay again.

We just returned from our vacation stay at Port Orleans Riverside. There is no better place to stay in Disney in my opinion. The grounds are, simply put, beautiful. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone satisfied. We took the boat one night to Downtown Disney. That is an added bonus. After long hours at the park, you have the luxury of a nice boat ride, no hassles with finding a place to park. The pools are great. We spent the mornings at them. They are not crowed during the day at all! Plenty of chairs for all to enjoy. The rooms are nice size and very clean. This makes our third stay at this hotel and I guarantee we will be back!

If it's difficult to get the kids out of the resort pool to go to the parks, you know you've made a great choice. This was our second stay in the Alligator Bayou section of Port Orleans Riverside, and we loved every minute of it. Our vacation was even better than at Christmas. We'll stay here as often as we can afford it

Just returned from a 10 day trip to Disney for the 4th year in a row. We just can't get enough. This is our second stay at the Riverside and once again no complaints. We are a party of 5 (2 single moms (sisters) with 3 kids combined) and this hotel was spacious enough for us all. The mini fridge was a great bonus this time...however being on the Disney dining plan we didn't find much need to bring extra food or drinks with us to the parks. I would highly recommend the dining plan as well...it worked out great for us. The resort itself is spacious and beautiful but me who gets lost easily didn't find if hard to navigate at all. The pools are great and the food in the fast food area was great. The cashiers were quick and friendly. The one complaint would be the bus waiting area...they should have que lines like at the parks set up because on busy days people come from everywhere to board the bus so the first come first served doesn't apply there...it's whoever is most aggressive boards the bus first. But the buses seem pretty frequent so its not a major problem. I would put up with it for the convienience of not having to drive myself around there. We also used the new magical express service to and from the airport...it worked out great for us. 1 piece of our luggage was lost on the way there which happened to be mine (it arrived 2 days later) but i must say the manager on duty "Xavier" did a BRILLIANT job of accomodating me in the mean time and getting the luggage to me. THANKS AGAIN for that! I love Disney and would definetly come back to this resort. The character meals are fun for the kids but the food is not the greatest...we have been to many of them...my highlights being the Princess Breakfast in Norway at Epcot (best food), and both the character breakfast and dinners at 1900 Pare Fark in the Grand Floridian. However my kids would choose Chef Mickeys...they love the atmosphere. I would also recommend the dinner at O'Hana (no characters but it does have kids activities)...loved the food and the atmosphere...we had a great time. The one sit down meal I would highly recommend is the Kona Cafe at the Polynesian. Great food...best service and even better if you are on the dining plan! I hope to be back again next year! Hope I helped a few of you out there! Let me know if I can help more and have a great time on your trip! I miss the palm trees already!

We just returned from our stay at Port Orleans Riverside. This was the first time that our children had ever been to Disney, so of course we were all rather excited! Very pleased with the rooms at Riverside...beautiful, relaxing, quiet, BUT...hard to find. After we had checked in, it took us about 10 minutes to actually find our room. Then, the walk from our vehicle to our room was rather long. However, once we found our room...the walk didn't seem that long. Rooms are nice, but I recommed for those who like to have the room cold when you sleep to bring a plug-in fan. The pools were perfect...the kids especially liked the one with the water slide in it. They have a nice bar by the pool which serviced mom and dad's needs....a daiqurie for us and a smoothie for the kids. Much to do...horse and buggy, boat rides, bike rides, even just take a walk around the grounds...watch our for the cute little bunnies that hop around. The services were wonderful. The cleaning lady always made us feel at home when returning to our room...everything was perfect...she even made a toothbrush holder out of towels for us. The fast food dining area is great...get the free refillable mugs(worth the money). The sit down restaurant in the hotel is fabulous... food is unbelievable awesome!!! Everyone was very nice to us for our entire stay at Port Orleans Riverside. With that said, I recommend this hotel highly!!! Hints for the parks...make sure to bring rain jackets for each person...keep them in zip lock bags so they don't get anything else wet(bring box of zip lock bags, never know when you will need them!!), bring the hand held misting fans that work on batteries(bring extra batteries too), get strollers for the kids(even 9yr olds enjoy the ride), bring small icechest to fit plenty of water and snacks(worth it!!!)...you can put the ice chest on the stroller also, buy the stroller for the entire amount of days you are there...keep your name badge that goes on the stroller...reuse it for the next day...saves time and no need for the line, get the fast passes--saves time! Make sure to take the monorail, even if it is just for the ride...beautiful...also, the boat...wonderful!! Go to a character breakfast or two...makes the kids feel special!! Also...don't miss the Hoop Dee Doo Revue...priceless!! The buses do take a while to get to you(especially when you are waiting with kids who are sooo excited to get there, but sooo ready at the end of the day to get to a bed)...but buses beat driving to me!! Hope this is helpful to those thinking of staying at Port Orleans...worth it, and would definetly stay there again!!!!!
