Recently stayed 3 nights with three kids 6 and under. Moderate Disney resorts are definitely a step up from economy level. Rooms are bigger and grounds much nicer. Worth the extra money.
This hotel is very cozy. Lots of greenery along trails. Blocks of rooms are lodge style and feel much less motel like. Rooms are large - one of the only place's in Disney where you can have 5 to a room (trundle bed is great for younger kids- not quite big enough for an adult -trust me.)
Food court very nice if not somewhat chaotic at meal time. Food quality is good - pasta bar very nice - huge portions. Pizza looked good - individual or large pies for families. Outside dining is nice with the water and boat docks. Horse drawn carriage rides a nice touch.
Pool is on central island with a waterslide and there are smaller pools located amongst the lodges. Service is typical Disney excellent -and if not they'll fix it.
Only draw back here is lack of luggage carts and elevators to second floor. Rooms are a good walk from the parking lot. If you are on the second floor you must carry all your gear upstairs which is tough with strollers etc. While this is a negative, it nowhere near outweighs all the positives.
Highly recommend.

AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME!
We had the times of our lives. This resort is huge, to us that's a plus. The grounds were so beautiful we enjoyed the walk to breakfast every morning. We live in Vegas, a desert. So to see all kinds of birds, rabbits, lizards was a treat. Not to mention the greenery! Trees, other than palm trees! Night time was amazing. You could hear owls, crickets, and frogs. The grounds were very dim and added to the theme'ing.

We were in BLD. 25 and had a corner room, diagonal view of one of the smaller pools. It was all very quiet.

Returing from our days adventure was a snap! We simply stayed on the bus and got off at the west depot. Our room was right around the corner.

I've read mixed reviews about the bus service and I must say we never waited more that 10mins. I think that just depends on the time of the year it is.

We fell in love so much with this place we are returning Feb 2009 for 10 nights this time.

“fantastic place”

well we my family, have just got back from a fantastic holiday and we stayed at the Port Orleans riverside, was a little bit wary as read some of the reviews before we went, however we found no problems at all we stayed in block 17 in Aligator Bayou which was near the small pool which did us ok and not far from the food court, the room was big enough for my family of 5 which include my 2 year old, the beds were really comfortable and we fitted in quite well, however we did not spend much time in the room, but it was clean and tidy and housekeeping was really good, the food court was ok, after a week you got a little bored so we tried to eat in the parks to try something different, a little tip if you have small children who are picky eaters like my two year old then you could have problems, my little one spent the two weeks on soup and ice cream, i did talk the food court manager who was pleasant, but could not provide me with jelly for my little one, where as you could get it in other places in disney, we did not hire a car as we relied on the disney transport which was good, however like other reviews we did have to wait a while for some buses, it seemed to me like this resort had the longest queues,
also this resort is quite big and you do some walking, we loved the boat to downtown disney and we did hire the bikes which was a really good way to see all of the resort and get some excercise, we found the shop really good, and sold most of what you could get in parks in Disney, we did book a character dinner only because there was a cancellation, so I would try and book before you go, we went to Chef Mickey's in the Contempory
Resort, which was great, the food was fantastic and my little one ate really well and the characters really spent time with you, so overall we had a fantastic time, would I go back yes I would without a doubt.

This was my 2nd trip to Riverside and will stay again! This time I stayed in the Oak Manor building. We rented a car so we drove up to the building. The check in process was great; the clerk was very friendly and welcoming. The directions to the building was fine but when you walk up to the building we followed the signs to our room which took us around and around only to find that we could have walked up one flight, walked through the center hall and turned left! The signage needs to be better! The room was exactly as expected; clean and in order. They seem to provide less soap and shampoo as we had to ask for more on the first day. Beds were comfortable and clean. The daily housekeeping service was fine. One thing I noticed is that the room needs a new paint job and the furniture was becoming chipped and worn. Other than that, everything was fine. The entrance door also needed a touch up paint job too. Bottom line, Disney does it again! Grounds were kept up perfectly and it was nice to walk around the property. I would definetly stay again!

The resort grounds are beautiful. The rooms aren't! The outside looks like a beautiful plantation home, but the rooms are more like a cheap motel! The housekeeping service did not clean the rooms well. The front desk was inept, making errors with our reservation. The resort grounds are beautiful, but too spread out. It is a very long walk to the dining areas and front desk. The dining area was very crowded and noisy. Trust me, go ahead and pay for a delux Disney Resort!
