“40th Birthday Trip with hubby”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

I turned 40 on 12/12/12 and my husband surprised me with a trip to Orlando and a stay at POR. I have been to Orlando & WDW a few times, but never stayed on WDW property. I really liked this resort. The room prices are reasonable and I loved the little extra touches like towels folded into Mickey Mouse ears and the cute shampoo & conditioner bottles. We stayed in Acadian House and it was just the right size for the 2 of us. We are not physically impaired, but we had a room that was equipped for the disabled/elderly. If you have physical impairments, definitely try to get one of these rooms. I didn't feel the walk to the main lobby/restaurants/gift shop was far. The scenery would make it worth it anyways. We took the boat to Downtown Disney one night and it does move a bit slowly. We were vacationing sans kids, so we didn't mind the more leisurely pace. The food in the quick service dining area was just okay and a bit pricey. I wish we had a microwave in our room, but then again, that would cut down on the money to be made at the POR restaurants. If you are a vegetarian, you won't find many food choices here. We only ate breakfasts and 1 dinner at POR. Also, the dining areas get crazy crowded at breakfast time, so get there early, or prepare to be frustrated as you make your way back to the condiment section when you forget the syrup for your pancakes or sugar for your tea. Overall, my experience was good. A great way to celebrate a milestone birthday.

Room Tip: Don't count on using the whirlpool spa because it was always full of people at all times of the...

We just got back from our 8 day/7 night stay at Port Orleans Riverside. We LOVE this resort! We had a garden view room close to one of the bus depots. The room was a great size, with two queen size beds & a Murphy bed that my son slept on. The vanity area had a curtain you could pull shut for privacy & the shower was larger than most normal hotel rooms. The room was very clean when we arrived & housekeeping came everday to freshen our linens & empty our trash. It was great to come back from the parks each day to a clean room! The resort has many great amenities that we took advantage of...the arcade was great, the boat taxi to Downtown Disney was wonderful & we enjoyed the sights along the way, the gift shop was big & had a large selection of Disney merchandise, the food court had lots of great food options. We didn't get to use the heated pools, but they looked great! Lots of walking trails around the property that were kept clear of debis. The front desk staff were very helpful & quick to respond when we had an issue (literally one issue & it wasn't anything to do with the resort). I would love to stay at Port Orleans Riverside again! Great location & excellent value for a Disney resort!!

Room Tip: Request a room close to a Disney bus stop. I think there are three or four stops at POR, but the re...

I really liked this resort for lot's of reasons. I stayed in the Alligator Bayou section. The room felt that I was staying in a lodge in a national park. The property is expansive but my room was close to all the ammenites. They had a nice sit down restraunt but I actually preferred the food court and all the options. The desing your own Pasta Bar was excellent and the breakfast was good as well. I felt the food quality was excellent as well as the price.

The hotel and the grounds were lovely. The room clean and very quiet. A wonderful retreat after days at the parks.

Room Tip: Choose river front..closer to the walkways to the pool and food.

What can I say, it was Disney and Disney does it right. Everything about this resort was excellent. We stayed in Alligator Bayou with it's winding paths and peaceful almost serene surroundings. Above clean, quiet, romantic, and surpassed all our expectations. The room was ready for us at check in, big bonus no need to stow gear. The entire trip I never saw an employee without a smile and willing to go the extra mile to make sure every detail was taken care of for you. The food from the food court was tasty and the servings were generous. From the moment you walk through the doors you feel like you are a long lost friend. The walk to main building is so peaceful and pretty it never felt like a hike. I am in love with POR and will definitely be returning. My only complaint is I can't go tomorrow.

We (two adults + a 3 year old child) spent 3 nights at Port Orleans Riverside in late January 2013. We were on the Magnolia Bend side in a Royal Room. The short version of the review is that we found it to be a great place to stay, one we'd consider returning to when we go back to Disney World, and would recommend it to other families. The place is beautiful and offers a lot of resort amenities that could keep you from visiting the parks. Read on for specific details...

First and foremost, the look and landscaping of the resort are fabulous. They've put enough touches of the look of old mansions that you forget it's a multi-room hotel. The river setting adds a touch of tranquility it's often tough to find at Disney.

If you strip away all the details of our room, it's probably equivalent in size and amenities to a Hampton Inn or Fairfield Inn offering. The 'royal' touches really go a long way to making it a unique experience. The Royal Rooms feature photos of the Disney princesses at the resort, a wallpaper border showing various Disney characters, and other touches from the films that go a long way in appealing to the kids that typically occupy the rooms. The LED fireworks show on the headboards is also a nice touch.

We requested a standard room, which put us all the way at the back of the resort near the parking lot. That made for a long walk to the main bus stop and main building. If you want to be closer, you should look into a river, pool, or courtyard view room. If you're relying on your own car to get around, the standard view room might work best for you.

One thing worth noting - the resort is huge and sprawling. It takes a couple trips to and from your room to find the most efficient way to get there and back. If you worry about your group having trouble traveling from point to point, you might want to check about getting a room closer to the main building.

The main building offers a sizable general store with both gifts and basic sundries. The restaurants are in the main building as well. We only ate at the food court, which offered the standard Disney sandwiches/fries selections along with some pizza/pasta and bakery offerings. There is an on-resort pizza delivery service we used one night that was a nice option. Overall the food court is geared more toward efficiency than quality, but it's good enough to get a meal before tackling the parks.

Because we were more geared toward park visits, we skipped a lot of the resort's other features. They have scheduled events at their main pool, entertainment in their lounge, evening movies in the courtyard, and boat making regular rounds to Downtown Disney along with bike rentals and evening horse-drawn carriage rides. It seemed possible to be able to spend an enjoyable day or two at the resort without ever visiting the parks.

The 'cast members' manning the hotel lived up to the Disney reputation of friendliness and helpfulness. One evening my wife accidentally left her purse in the food court. Cast members went above the call of duty to search lost & found after it was closed and recover it for her.

Negatives? For some reason, housekeeping completely skipped our room one day. I'm not sure why as we were out of the room at 7:30 AM to travel to the park and not back until 2 PM. Ultimately it wasn't a big deal since we only used our room for sleeping/showering. I opted to not request housekeeping assistance since we didn't need a bed change or towels (though housekeeping lost the tip I had left for them that day).

Also the Disney bus service is pretty much like any bus service. Sometimes it feels very convenient and timely, other times you feel like you're spending most of your day waiting on buses and crammed in with hundreds of other guests. The alternate stops around Sassagoula Circle are handy when catching buses at midday or coming home in the evening if you're at the rear of the resort. If you're a person short on patience who doesn't like crowds, you might opt to have your own car available for trips to and from the parks.

In summary, the positives far outweigh any negatives unique to our trip. Consider this resort a strong option if you're looking for something a step above the All-Star resorts but without the price tag of Disney's luxury resorts.

Room Tip: If staying in Magnolia Bend, opt for river view rooms to be closest to the main building.

We spent 5 nights at the Riverside hotel at WDW a week ago. Our party consisted of 2 adults and 2 children ages 2 and 6. We loved this resort and would highly recommend it to families. The interior of the room was clean, roomy, and very theme-based. There was a surprise of a murphy bed as well. Not your typical fold out of the wall bed but an adorable crate looking single bed mounted on the wall. When you pulled the mattress down, there was the alligator from "The Princess and the Frog" on the interior. It was very cute and my boys loved it. There were a lot of additional themed details in the room. Housekeeping was quick whenever we needed anything. We stayed in room 1411, which was a few steps from the restaurant area, pool area, and the playground. No long walks here. The bus service to the parks was very quick and we also enjoyed the boat service to Downtown Disney. They had nightly outdoor movies and a campfire. We didn't have the time to do either but we did overhear others who really enjoyed both. Overall, I would highly recommend this for families or for couples. It was quiet, clean, and fun.

Room Tip: Building 14 is closest to all of the resort amenities. Also, the plantation buildings have roomier...

My boyfriend and I were visiting Disney for the first time and participating in the Disney 1/2 marathon. We didn't have a "deluxe" budget but not having any children, we definitely didn't feel like sleeping in a hotel with Disney "theme" rooms (example: Little Mermaid decor). The CAA travel agent suggested the Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, and what a suggestion it was. The resort is really relaxing, beautiful grounds, helpful and friendly staff, great location. The on-site restaurants offer a good selection (and quality) of food. You can even find pretty much everything you need at the store located on-site. Our room was located on the second floor, garden side (Magnolia bend) and proved to be very quiet. Well-furnished and very clean, the room was just a short walk to the main building. Great for a morning jog. Also, the short boat ride to Downtown Disney offers a different way to get around and see the area from a different perspective. It truly is a great place!

Room Tip: A riverside room or garden side offers a nicer "view" and is quieter than those facing par...
