“Poor Value for $”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2010

Issue #1:Requested a club level room on floor 7. Even called to verify request, was told to arrive early so to improve chances of meeting request. Arrived at 1pm to find out that prior night all rooms were booked and would continue to be booked. Hotel knew this when I called to verify but didn't tell me.

Issue #2: Room rates near $400/night and we still have to pay $15 parking + TAX? Even on club level rooms? Not good.

Issue #3: Club concierge lounge is very small (occupancy of only about 60, I counted). Plastic chairs, small food offerings, and waiters looking for tips. Paid enough, not looking to tip more.

Issue #4: Club level rooms are small. Traveling with family meant luggage absolutely everywhere.

Issue #5: Vibe of reception area was lacking. I was expecting more high energy, activity, etc in main lobby, didn't feel it.

Issue #6: How about printing out a bill and sliding it under door the night before? I didn't receive one and needed to ask at front desk.

All in all, poor value for the dollar. Stayed at Portofino (club level) last year and enjoyed it MUCH more. Portofino lounge is much larger, better food, better atmosphere.

We've been going here yearly for decades. Rooms are very clean. Sheets/towels
are always crisp and very fresh. Love the location close to Universal. Can walk back
to the hotel within 10 minutes from anywhere in the park.
We love the Palm Restaurant. The Kitchen has really good food with good prices.

Always something going on at the hotel but we were still able to go to sleep in quiet well
before midnight.

Great location, but the second night of our stay my wife was attacked by bedbugs. The hotel responded by having us throw all of our clothing from our suitcases into garbage bags (not laundry bags) to be cleaned. Our new room assignment overlooked the main driveway. It took eight hours for our luggage to be delivered to our new room. During that time our family was unable to retrieve medicines, toiletries, etc. Our complaints to the hotel management were met with hollow apologies, inaction and insinuations that we were fabricating the bug bites to take advantage of them!! Once the exterminator's official report on our room showed "insect infestation," our treatment improved ever so slightly, but not before one manager refused to hear our complaints, turned his back and walked away. If you need a place near Universal and nothing goes wrong with your stay, this is the place for you. If you need any service or help from the management, then the Hard Rock Hotel might be your own private "Island of Adventure."

We have just stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel for 5 nights. Our main reason was that we would be close to Universal Studios and have access to the express lines in the queues and early entry to the Parks. We felt this was worth paying the premium and we were not wrong.

The hotel was good - very family friendly and the staff were very helpful. Our room was not ready when we arrived (housekeeping difficulties) so we were offered free drinks at the bar. It was still not ready an hour later and we eventually got a room about 20 mins later but we got free breakfast vouchers also. The hotel is very good at compensating you if they mess up.

Room was great - very spacious - and had all the facilities. We had a pool view on the 2nd floor and so it could be a bit noisy at night but the DJ finished at 10pm so this was fine to get to sleep.

We took advantage of the ferry to take us to the parks but we also did the walk there too. Both were fine. The snack shop Emack & Bollio's was great and perfect for breakfast on the run - which we did most days. The breakfast we had at The Kitchen was good also - with a full buffett there too.

Parking was fine and the hotel is conveniently situated close to I-Drive and the Premium Outlet Malls to the north of I-Drive. It is also only a 10 minute drive away from a Walmart and Florida Mall.

All in all I would recommend the hotel.

We stayed on the 4th floor the last week of July. There were towels scattered in the hallway as well as crumbs and small debris. I really think for $305.00 a night for our room, they would want staff to make sure the property was clean and should have an employee make sure it is. The bathroom door would barley shut with an adult in it~too close to the toliet. The room on average was SMALL but the decor was lovely! Ice cream and a slice of pie with roomservice will set you back $22.00 and there is not a vending machine to be found. There are washers/dryers on this floor for $2.75 but it took me 3 times to dry one load~obviously the dryer was not working. "BIGGS" the valet parking attendant(rate was $22.00 a night)was super nice. Pool is a shallow pool like the deepest is 3'9" so how would you really hear the music under water because there is not a lot of room to swim~more to gather. Slide is nice!

We are a family of 5 ... (3 children, 2 adults) who decided to spend 4 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel Universal Orlando in order to go to Wizarding World of Harry Potter Universal Islands of Adventure.

I knew that we needed a suite and that theme park hotels in Orlando are CRAZY expensive ... so i was prepared to pay top dollar.

We chose Hard Rock because of its location. It is a 10 minute walk down a beautiful, garden path behind the hotel to the front gate at Universal Studios OR there are constantly running boat taxis (5 minute drive) to Universal Studios/Universal City Walk area).

I have been to a few other Hard Rock Hotels before and they are slightly worn & tacky. This one is BEAUTIFUL! A true 4 to 5 star hotel from the exterior facade to the interior lobby to the restaurants, pool area, etc.....

Check in was a breeze .... less than 10 minutes. We took the elevator up to the 5th floor and opened the door to our lovely room. We had a Kid's Suite. This consisted of a foyer, then a very large bathroom with separate tub & shower with double sink, then a very large (probabably 18 x 22 ft) living area with a king size bed, fold out couch, dresser & large flat screen TV. Connected to this room was another large bedroom with 2 twin beds, dresser with a flat screen TV & a small kid's dining table with 4 chairs. I think my only 'beef' would be that there is no room for a dining table in the main living room area .... and that presents a bit of a problem when you get room service as you have to sit on the bed or couch to eat.

They do kind of nickel and dime you to death a bit ... My youngest (7 years) wanted to stay in the bedroom with her two siblings and so we asked for a roll away bed to be brought up (instead of her sleeping on the pull out couch in our sleeping area) .... We were told that the roll away bed would be $25/a day to rent .... I WAS FLABBERGASTED to say the least. For the amount of money being paid at this hotel per night .... that was ridiculous to me.

All in all we were incredibly happy with our stay at this hotel. Not only did our keycards get us free fast pass access so we didn't have to wait in long lines for rides .... but the convenient location sold me completely !!
