“Always A Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

This hotel is in a perfect location. All the employees I encountered were very friendly & welcoming. I ate dinner in Carnivale & was taken care of by Sue, who was working behind the bar. She had a genuine smile for every customer who came in. The restaurant was busy that night yet there was no wait & my food came out very quickly. I will always stay at Doubletree Universal whenever I visit Orlando.

This was the location of a convention for a youth athletic group. The facilities for the convention area was great and spacious, location was really good for the activities we had planned for us. But the rooms and interior hallways were horrible!! They are severely outdated and need renovation as soon as possible. The hallways were kept at a constant 85 or degrees. It was cold outside, but so hot inside you could not breathe. The rooms are large, but need major updating. the ceilings are still popcorn and the mirror to closet is framed in brass. It is 80's retro to say the least. The mattresses are hard and could use some help. The sheets and bedding was quite comfortable though.
The laundry facilities are a joke. There are probably 500 or more room and they have enough washers for about 3 or 4 people at a time to use. I did say this was a youth athletic convention with practices and almost 400 boys that have clothes that need laundering. We left and found a coin laundry to get our stuff done. Come on Hilton let's invest in this property and update. You are located at the entrance to the second largest attraction in Orlando and this is the what you have representing you.

Trying to play catch up so sorry that this review is a bit old. We stayed at this hotel in October 2011 and it is a little data but the staff was very nice and the hotel was clean. Its great because its in walking distance to Universal which is fantastic! there are a couple of restaurants in the area to walk to as well. we sued out HHonors reward point to stay and it was really reasonable and a great way to visit the park. all in all if you are going to universal and have a budget this is a great hotel to be at.

Excellent hotel with a great value for your money. The staff are very helpful, spacious and clean rooms, though a little old, and very comfortable beds. Has an internal Starbucks, good restaurant and a small grocery and pharmacy on the same block.
And the best: just in front of Universal Studios. Just across the street and you will have access to the park in less than 10 minutes by walk. Loved our stay there.

This Hotel over all is well kept. I had the pleasure of contacting Louis before our arrival and we were well taken care of! The staff members we spoke to and dealt with were polite and accommodating! Our room was very clean and the beds were very nice!I. The only complaint I have is that the decor is a bit dated otherwise, a very good stay for us! Room service was also prompt and reasonably priced. You have a great bunch of hard working employees and we hope to visit again in the future!

Room Tip: Corner rooms are nice, lots of room.

Hotel was not as expected. Went here for a football camp. Stayed 8 nights and thought the hotel would be good because of convenience. It was a bad mistake. Paid almost 1500$ for a small room that would accommodate 4 in family. We were crammed into this room for so many days and the room was so old and needed updating badly. The beds were not comfortable at all. It was a very big surprise being that the cost of this hotel was pretty high. The carpets were old and smelled. I will not be staying here any other time. It is best to stay at a smaller hotel with larger room and comfortable beds. Convenience is not good enough for me anymore.

Dear Anabel_rivas ,

We're glad we had the chance to serve you and your family during your travels to Orlando for football camp. We're sorry to hear that it was a disappointing experience and cleanliness issues should never be a concern. Please accept our sincerest apologies and know this is being addressed with our housekeeping staff. We hope that you'll consider giving us another opportunity to serve you, should your travels bring you back.

Kind regards,

Louis

If you don't want to pay the extra money to stay in a Universal property, the Doubletree Universal is the next best thing in terms of location. The hotel offers a free shuttle, but the walk is only about 10 minutes. The breakfast bar is fantastic and the hotel staff are friendly and attentive.

Now for the drawbacks: The hotel desperately needs a renovation. With the exception of the hair dryer, the superficial trappings are Hilton quality (sheets, towels) but the furniture, carpet, etc., are not. We discovered mold on our bathroom ceiling and walls, and outlets pulled away from the wall.

The hotel has two towers, so make sure you doublecheck which one you are in before heading up the elevator. (You can only access each tower from the first floor.) The hotel has a number of restaurants on site, which is good because you have choices. To get to the restaurant that offers breakfast, however, you have to go outside and walk through a courtyard. It's a little odd.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on an upper floor facing Universal.
