I arrived here from a larger business-focused Hilton, and the contrast was interesting. This hotel has some of the nice Hilton touches but also shows the wear (a bit) from the many many tourists who come and go, particularly for the Universal Studios ('across the street').
The room was very modern-looking and nicely appointed, though obviously lived-in (some fraying of couch, etc.). Still, nicer than some comparably priced motels/inns and half the cost of the big Hilton up the road near the convention center. I stayed here just to take a day off from business and catch the Universal features that I could in one day - and be able to walk to and from, as I enjoy walking and not waiting on shuttles or cabs.
Of note - I'm a very fast urban walker, and think some of the time estimates here are optimistic. It's a long walk (as one concierge had explained to me before booking) - and feels long, especially if it is raining. Out the door, across a busy street, and 'into the entrance' - and then at least 1/2 mile of walking through flatland (which is 'the view' too, with the Potter Castle way in the background) to a turn and another hike to the welcome area (and shortest route through a field of bus assembly points). A bit longer and you're there. I'd say 20-25 minutes at least. The hotel does provide a shuttle ('Superstar'), free for HH members and some guests.
Aside from the rain, what I can and will remember is how the hotel did with my 3 basic requirements: sleep comfort, morning coffee, and Internet access. As Meatloaf said, "2 out of 3 ain't bad", but I'd have loved coffee. The double-cup coffee maker looked nice, and had some fancy coffee packs, but when turned on all it did was beep and turn off. Didn't realize it was non-working until morning when I needed it prior to checkout. Too late to call. And too, were I staying there longer I'd have really disliked that the refrigerator was non-working. It made noise (like the coffeemaker) but did not cool. Front desk said, 'well, it really isn't supposed to get cold' to which my response was, 'leaving a bottle of water overnight and having it come out room temperature seems kind of pointless'.
So, I guess you get what you pay for, and there are some nice touches. (Oh yes, you can order ribs from across the street, room service, not bad or overly expensive.) Room was quiet, with an expansive view (of flatland) and free Internet. Staff were friendly, office/printer area was nice.
And that's all I can say for a quick visit.
