“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

We've stayed here before, and would again. Scrupulously clean, and fabulous staff. Citricos restaurant is a lovely restaurant, but the 1900 fayre, where you go to meet Cinderella for dinner and Alice for breakfast (if you book) is pretty grim. We stayed in a castle view room, which overlooked the lake, great view of the fireworks and sunrise.
Access to the monorail makes getting to the Magic Kingdom really easy, but the boat back is quicker.
Rooms are clean but small and a bit tired and dated to the price.

We have stayed before at DW on Club Level floors. This time beverages and food were sparse with little variety (except for desserts), tables were bussed slowly (hard to find a place to sit), and bottled water was not available at all. The concierges were not able to solve small problems.

That all being said, the hotel is beautiful and rooms excellent.

Room Tip: Theme Park view is a must to view the fireworks with children from the room after a long day.

We just returned form Orlando staying at Disneys Grand Floridian Hotel. It was more than Magical.Sugar Loaf was delightful for snacks.Unlike another review I saw no
one attempt to enter without proper access however my magnetic strip at times was slow in activating the power door.I recalled reading about persons allegedly 'sneaking' in and was hoping no one thought that of us.
The access to Magic Kingdom etc.was readily available. There were a few malfunctions with the Monorail System which could have been annoying however there was always backup service with the Magical Bus.
Nowhere is there anything human that is PERFECT.This Hotel was certainly close to the PERFECT that humans can create with their hard work, pleasant mannerisms and smiles.
Thanks to all of you we had a long awaited Magical getaway. To thin this all began with a Mouse named Mortimer is overwhelming!

Room Tip: Ask what the options are in your price range. If you have a special circumstance speak up.It is about...

This hotel truly extends Disney magic from the theme park over to the accomodations.

My family and I enjoyed the room, were very happy with the pool facilities and also loved the different themed restraunts.

Highly worth the price you pay, you will be amazed

Stayed here first week of June in sugar loaf building club room, just amazing. Rooms spotless, staff very attentive they really try to make your trip as magical as possible. Food was brilliant even there quick service was the best in Disney (cater for quick service better than yacht and beach!) a very relaxed hotel after a busy day at the parks. Monorail convenient to magic kingdom and Epcot, the boat wasn't as manic as monorail so a nice change. There is building work as you can see by other reviews but I really can not see how it could effect your stay as it a separate building completely to the hotel. The only time we noticed it was when my husband went on the running trail which takes you past it, all very friendly and considerate. Great place to stay for families and couples can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Sugar loaf club had a high room 3rd floor overlooking the pool just perfect

We stayed at the Grand Floridian for 5 days while my husband attended a conference on the property. Before arriving, we used My Disney on disney.com to plan our trip and found that our room had been upgraded from 2 Queens to a One Bedroom Suite with Club Level access! Of course I thought there was some mistake and prepared myself for them to address it upon check-in. I followed another poster's suggestion to check-in online before arrival and that was a great idea! Once arriving at the hotel from the ME bus, we were greeted by a hostess and bellman right as we exited the bus. No need to look for anyone to help us or worrying about where to go to. It was really first class treatment. The hostess grabbed our paperwork from behind the check-in desk and escorted us to the room. First, she walked us by the building where the club lounge was and explained how that worked. She did say we could access both lounges (one in the main building and one in the outer building), which we did. Our room was located on the 5th floor (top floor) of Boca Chica building. The suite was huge! It had 2 full bathrooms with double sinks in each, 2 queen beds in the bedroom, sleeper sofa, a round dining table for 4 and beautiful vaulted ceiling in bedroom with balcony. Also had a fridge stocked with soda and water everyday, no extra charge! The one thing that really stood out for me, and this might sound strange, was that we always had an abundance of bath towels, washcloths, lotions, soaps etc. There were at least 8 bath towels alone in the master bath! Everywhere we have stayed practically in the last 10 years I'd have to phone housekeeping for more towels. Not a once at GF! Lastly regarding the room, I've heard people complain about the decor and lack of theme. Personally, I thought it was tastefully done and refreshing not to be bombarded by Disney themed decor after spending days at the theme parks! My 3 year old and 14 year old didn't once complain about the theme or lack there of!

A few items that might help you in your vacation planning. Our room overlooked the main pool area and movies were shown on the lawn each evening outside our room. Thankfully, we had a sound machine playing for our son, so no trouble there. The noise is only an issue for a few hours between 7-9pm or so and the fireworks are loud. We couldn't see them from our room, but you certainly hear the booming. Again, nothing major. If you are a light sleeper or your kids are, I'd bring a sound machine. I use my iPod and downloaded ambient white noise from iTunes.

There are 3 pool areas and all offer something different. The main pool is zero entry and has little fountains bubbling up water. Great for the little ones! My 2 year old (nearly 3) played for hours in this pool. I did bring a little soaker water ball to toss around which helped. There is a deeper part of the pool which older kids will enjoy as well. Also, there was a pool bar which made delicious drinks and had a small bar food menu. The ping pong table seemed popular with the 8-16 year olds! Second pool had a playground water feature with small slides and a big bucket spilling water every few minutes or so. Our little guy loved this pool too! Right next to this one was an area for waterslides flowing into a small deep pool.

Club level spoiled us. Because we were at the hotel in the mornings for most breakfast and the evenings for happy hour, I think it would be worth the splurge. There was enough food for both meals and we didn't have to get anything additional at breakfast or dinner or just split takeout from the Gasparilla (sp?) grill. Happy Hour included hot and cold hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine, champagne, soda etc. There was even dessert and cordials placed out from 8-10pm. My only critique is that the club level seating area isn't large enough to accommodate all patrons. We just took some food and drink to go most times, which was fine.

Made reservations about a month prior to our trip for the Character Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare (Friday) and Citricos for my husband and myself that evening as well. Food was good at the breakfast buffet at 1900 Park Fare. Nothing outstanding but lots of choices which was nice. Characters came around constantly for pictures and hugs. Food at Citricos was fantastic! See my separate review under restaurants.

As far as location, GF can't be beat in my opinion. We spent 2 days going to and from Magic Kingdom and it was so quick and easy! We could either take the boat or the monorail. It probably took 10 minutes to get from our room to the monorail station at the hotel (second floor main building). Maybe the same to and from the boat. The monorail ride is about 5 minutes to MK. Getting to and from Epcot is easy but a much longer trip. You can take the monorail, switch at Ticket and Transportation center to Epcot monorail. I think it took us 30 minutes from room to entrance at Epcot. AK bus was quick and easy. Same with DHS bus. Parents of little ones, bring a stroller for your little one! We had a nice umbrella stroller (uppa baby) that our little guy never uses. However, he was in the stroller when we were walking to and from anywhere 100% of the time. Bring some kind of recognizable bright colored tag or something to attach to your stroller for stroller parking areas. Disney cast members move strollers around to make room and you might spend a lot of time trying to find it!

If money is no object or you are looking to splurge on lodging at Disney, I think GF is a no fail choice. Not sure I would have paid the full room rate for a standard room, but we were spoiled with the conference discount and upgrade.

The hotel is very nice but make sure you ask questions and be your own guide. We stayed there for a week over Memorial Day 2013. The pool was nice even though they closed the pool with the waterslide during our stay. (We were notified in the mail a few weeks before we left of the closure.) Here is a list of my observations and issues.

1. We had a theme park view room in Boca Chica and they said we could see the fireworks but we couldn't and had to go down to the ground floor because of a mature tree that blocked the view.

2. We arrived around 1 pm and said our room was ready but when we got to it house cleaning was still in there. Check-in isn't officially until 3 pm so it is not their fault just wish they didnt say it was ready.

3. If using the Magical Express from the airport, carry on bags do not automatically go to your room. They took ours when we arrived and said they would bring them up but they never did. We later called and they said they would bring them up but we had to ask. This is a bad thing because we had to keep our kids in the room waiting for our carry on's. Do that with a 4 and 7 year old.

4. At check-in we received a green folder and they said everything we would need is in the folder, however, the standard room folder is blue. We found out because we wanted room service and didnt have a menu. I wished we had it earlier because it contains the resort activities schedule which would have been nice to know.

5. We had an 8 am reservation at Boma, Animal Kingdom Lodge and then were going to head over to the Animal Kingdom park. We were told to go to the bus stop and waited about 25 minutes and no buses came to Animal Kingdom. I had to go ask again and then found out from another bell person that we had to take a cab because the buses do not run that early to the resorts.

Having said all that we still had a good time. The location is great and you can get to everywhere pretty fast via the monorail and/or boat. Your first stop is the Magic Kingdom on the monorail and coming back if you take the boat you are the first stop. That seems to be the quickest routes. The hotel is nice, the new pool was nice, the view of the lake and park was nice. So its hard to say even having our difficulties we didn't like the hotel. I hate to say, you just have to be your own advocate. Do your research first and make sure you get all the information you need and you'll enjoy your stay more there. It definately was quieter then the other resorts which was one of the reason we stayed there.

One final note is that they are building the new Disney Vacation Villas so the area by the small beach is now smaller and not the prettiest.
