Front desk was very helpful at check in. It is pretty spread out so I had a long walk to my room. Room was very clean and comfortable but for $400+ one would expect nothing less.

Now for the minor complaints. First the TV station selection is very weak. I was here on business so I wanted a little more than the Disney channels. The high speed internet access in the room was pretty slow and it would not let you Virtual Private Network so I could not check my work e-mails. Also little to no wireless internet access thoughout this resort. Last the food was average but priced at above average prices.

Minor stuff but nothing real exceptional. For the price I think one could do better.

We stayed in the main building and requested a view of Cinderella's castle. We had three rooms in all and all had the spectacular view. It was great to watch the fireworks at night from the comfort of our room. The room was large enough for a family of four to be comfortable. You can request interconnecting rooms if you need more space. The private lounge was nice--plenty of food during the day and nicer than we expected. There was no need to go anywhere else for breakfast which saved time and money. The staff was very friendly. We had in-room check in which was nice after a long trip. Our rooms were ready early in the day and the housekeeper staff was superior. The monorail goes right to the main building which is very convenient. At busy times, it is great to take the boat back to the hotel.

All in all a great stay. No complaints at all.

“Loved It”

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa

Stayed at this hotel from 2/1- 2/5. I traveled with my husband and 4 year old daughter. Although I have stayed numerous times at 5 star hotels I had never spent so much on a hotel per night so I was hoping that this would be spectacular. The room was a very pretty traditional style room but was a bit small. The view at night of the fireworks was spectacular even though we were told we did not have a magic kingdom view. The grounds were our favorite. One of the pools were closed for construction but that did not matter since the other pool was really nice with a waterslide and cute bar and cabana area. Right beyond the pool was an area of sand and the lake. Really, really, pretty! You did not feel like you were in Florida, felt more like a tropical island. The lobby was a very open pretty space with an old world feel. Although we were happy with everything else the restaurants and room service menu need some fixing. The first night there we ate at citrico's with our daughter and another couple. The portions were very small and only one of us were happy with our food. When I asked for bread, oddly enough the waiters whole cheery personality changed to him almost having an attitude. We all noticed it and thought it was strange. It was also very expensive. We also ate the next evening in the grand floridian cafe and thought it had a very limited menu and was quite expensive for what it was. The grill that was open 24 hours was very convienent and had a nice variety although that was expensive also. Forget about the room service menu, the prices were ridiculous. The convience of the hotel was a huge plus it was only one stop on the monorail to magic kingdom and one boat ride stop away. Loved the boat ride back at night while the fireworks were going off. Overall I am very glad I splurged on this hotel, I am six months pregnant and felt I deserved it!

“left feeling really disappointed and ripped off”

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa

Feb 3, 2008
11/18 found this review helpful

Having traveled to Disney about once a year for the past ten years and having always stayed at Disney properties (contemporary, animal kingdom, port orleans, boardwalk villas) I was really excited to stay at what I had always assumed was Disney's premier hotel.

From the moment I walked in, I was disappointed. The lobby was lovely but did not have the Disney wow factor that my kids love (nothing Disney, childfriendly going on). The atmosphere was boring and dull with the band playing only sporatically and the bars dead.

The room was not in the main hotel and was quite a walk away. Average hampton inn style room with pleasant view. The pool was under construction. The kid camp was depressing and not well staffed. The game room and cafeteria were small, dingy and actually the worse I have ever seen on a disney property. The breakfast in the buffet was cafeteria quality in both atmosphere and food and in the main restaurant a total rip off and again very institutional tasting.

What was most shocking was how poorly trained the staff was. I had an important dinner booked at Animal Kindgom Lodge. I called concierge TWICE to confirm how to get there and I was told NOT to take monorail to Magic Kingdom then bus to Animal Kingdom Lodge a I thought but to take monorail to transportaion center. When I got to transportaiton center I was told no busses to the lodge only to the resort. ugh. I had to get back on monorail and go all around again. The mistake cost me forty minutes and I missed my meal.

Also, DESPITE PAYING ALMOST 400 A NIGHT NO CABLE OR MOVIE CHANNELS. When I called to complain, they told me, and this is a quote, Disney wants you out enjoying disney amenities NOT watching tv. When I explained that it was 10:00 at night, I just drove for five hours, and I had two infant children, they didn't know how to respond. Apparently, the lack of a cable package is a common complaint because at my business meeting the next day I heard others venting similar frustration. (NOTE to Disney, if you are going to bill this as an adult friendly, business orientated hotel, you need to have cable)

Finally, I think it is outrageious to spend 400 a night and not be able to book a dinner reservation in your hotel at any time for any night of your stay!

The spa: outrageous prices, mediocre services

In sum, not inspiring, not luxury, not fun for the kids, showing its age, a big disappointment. Not a good hotel for adults either because you can't even relax after a big meeting and watch a movie if you so desire.

We stayed 3 nights this january abd just loved this hotel.
We were upgraded to concierge.level( first time in my life I have had an upgrade)
Lovely breakfast just outside the room, afternoon tea ,late afternoon snacks and evening desserts with brandy
Beautiful lobby with live-music,enormous room-best ever.
Very nice staff.I could go on for ever and ever.We have travelled a lot around the world and this was one of the best hotels. We stayed previously in The Biltmore in Miami, but this hotel was so much better.Recommended also for the location.
We loved the Grand Floridian and would certainly return.
