“Disney Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

I had the absolute pleasure of staying at this resort for two weeks in September 2011 for our wedding and honeymoon. This hotel pushes service beyond the extremely high Disney levels with large luxury rooms. Also spent one night in the main building club room which was equally amazing - access to lounge with good selection of nibbles with alcoholic drinks for 2 hours in the evening and canned soft drinks.

We stayed for most of the vacation in Building 5 (Sago Cay) and I must comment on the lovely lobby smell which they must pump into the lobby. I miss the smell!

One negative point. Each building has a lobby however it also had rooms on the same level. Many guests (and loud children) tend to gather in these areas late at night and make a large amount of noise - ONLY a problem if you are on the ground floor.

The whole resort and room was perfectly clean. Did find the resort tended to be rather busy in terms of staff working to keep the hotel looking fresh from around 9am to noon.

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor rooms.

This is one of those places where you just simply have to have stayed at least once...the flagship resort of Walt Disney World, Orlando. The staff were extremely friendly and hospitable, and I really don't have any complaints. However, from my last visit about 15 years ago, I don't see many updates. They could renovate some of the rooms, it would make the hotel more modern and fresh. It would also make the place more competitive, since there have been an abundance of newer 5-star hotels springing up all over Orlando. Still, if you're going to Disney, I recommend staying either here, the Polynesian, or at the new Bay Lake Towers at the Contemporary Resort. Transportation is convenient and free to the parks via Disney's monorail, which is a huge plus. You can also go from one resort to another via the monorail, and you'll definitely want to, since each place has a lot to offer even if you are just browsing through.

We stayed at the Grand Floridian for four nights in late August. I wasn't crazy about the hotel although there was nothing wrong with our stay (except for the self parking lot which is quite far, across a road with cars traveling at high speeds and does not have adequate space). We stayed in the main building on the fourth floor with a theme park view. The room was a good size but I didn't like the decor. I was so looking forward to staying at the GF because it's Disney's flagship hotel and we had never stayed club level before. The GF is quite expensive and I don't feel it provides good value. Fortunately we didn't pay the regular rate of close to $800 a night. We were initially booked to stay at the Contemporary CL but their lounge was undergoing renovations and the work wasn't completed on time so we were moved to the GF. I much prefer the AKL where we stayed for the first part of our vacation.

As the title suggests, we'd stay here every time we visit Disneyworld if we could. The problem is justifying the cost when there are other hotels that serve just a good a purpose, but just don't do it in as much style. We (Me, wife, 2 daughters aged 3 and 2) stayed here September 21 - 28, 2011 and had a ball. I must stress though this is our opinion as there are other reviewers who quite obviously haven't enjoyed their experience here.

Everything was Grand for us from the moment we arrived till the moment we checked out, from the lobby to the room. Our room was in Boca Chica, overlooking the lagoon and we could even see the Magic Kingdom from our balcony. We could have seen the castle too but for the restaurant in the way. No complaints here though as our girls loved looking out from the fourth floor to the lagoon to see the water parade and also the fireworks each night.

We were given a heads up about the noise from the boats and the fireworks at night but it wasn't loud at all if all the doors were shut. Plus it was fun for us as it reminded us when things were happening! Didn't hear a peep from the neighbours or from the hall so it was soundproof for our standards.

The room also seemed a little larger than others we've stayed in at the Polynesian, Wilderness and Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was clean, lovely and most of all comfortable so we were more than satisfied. With the length of our stay we chose to take it easy and actually enjoy the hotel and we did. Short walks to everywhere in the resort and not even that long a walk to the nearby polynesian - if our daughters could do it then it's really not that far especially with their little legs. If they couldn't see the castle we probably would've spent every day at the hotel either in the pools (there were 2 but we spent most of our time in the zero entry pool where the water-slide was) or just lounging about. When we weren't dining off-site Gasparilla's was great and it also kept the girls busy with the arcade.

The last point we want to make is that you're really NOT just paying for the convenience of the location at this resort as it is very luxurious (short monorail trip to Magic Kingdom and short boat ride back). I won't complain about the fee for the internet because when we were in the room there was plenty to keep us entertained besides that and the kids only let me watch the disney channels so when they were asleep the variety of channels was ample as I was able to get my sports updates!

We didn't know what to expect in terms of "Grand" but were nevertheless blown away by it and if not for the price would stay here every time. Worth it at least once and if things go well savings wise for us we will stay here again in 2013.

Room Tip: Every room is nice but lagoon view in boca chica might just get you a magic kingdom view

We have just spent a week at the grand Floridian with our three children. Fantastic location for access to magic kingdom. Rooms are way below a 5 star standard - shabby and in need of updating without some of the expected comforts. Service is of course excellent - overdone possibly. But child friendly for sure! come without the expectation of luxury! Dining limited as restaurants booked up months in advance so as a first timer you are disadvantaged

I must say that this has got to be the best stay in a resort I've ever had. The turn-down service at night was a pleasant surprise. Also the view from the rooms are all good. The only thing that I would say that I didn't like was the parking wasn't convent as it was across the street from the resort.

Room Tip: Ask for a park view and you can see the fireworks at night.

The Grand Floridian is perfect for a family vacation. The hotel is located very close to the magic kingdom(only a monorail stop away). We stayed at the hotel for three days and never left! I have two children(ages 4 and 7). The kids loved the beach pool and all the wonderful activities. They also participated in the pirate adventure excursion, which they both loved! The hotel also had a wii party every night followed by a movie by the pool. The kids were in heaven! The dining is also very good. We ate at Citricos, the grand Floridian cafe and gasparilles grill. All restaurants offer good choices and are fairly priced for Disney standards. My only advice is to research restaurants before your vacation and book before you get there. We did not do this and could not get a character dining reservation. If you are flying into Orlando, book a car with Florida Town Car. JC is awesome and the cost is only $85 roundtrip! Very reasonable and convenient!
