I stayed at the Yacht Club from 8/26/13 until 8/29/13 with my husband and 3 kids (ages 13,11 and 7). Having staying at the Beach Club previously, we chose the Yacht Club so we could have a slightly different experience while still enjoying the great pool area.
Before leaving, I had completed the on-line check in, so my packet was all ready when I arrived. We had also been chosen to try the new Magic Bands. They arrived about 10 days before we left and they worked as our room key, as well as our "charge card", admission tickets to the parks and our fastpass (which we set up before we left). We arrived at 9am on the Magical Express, which had only 1 other family on board, and only stopped at the Beach Club before dropping us off. We left our carry on bags with bell services and walked to Epcot. We received a text at 2:30 that our room was ready, and when we got back our luggage has been delivered to our room.
Our room was on the 3rd floor with a pool view and we could see most of the Epcot fireworks from our balcony. One night we went down to the beach and faced some lounge chairs towards Epcot and watched the fireworks that way.
The beds were very comfortable and had lots of pillows. My 7-year old slept on the day bed, which is great for a child, but probably would not be comfortable for an adult. We requested a roll away bed for our 11-year old. It was $15/night, but was worth it to have our kids each have their own sleeping space. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with towels and washcloths. The water pressure in the shower was great, but the toilet was very noisy when flushed. Also, the room is very dark at night...we brought a small plug-in nightlight and put it near the bathroom area so our kids could find the toilet during the night. Housekeeping did a great job keeping the room clean.
The pool area is our favorite of any Disney hotel. My family loved the huge waterslide and there are multiple depths in the pool area so any age child can find an area where they are most comfortable.
The Yacht Club has a lounge in the lobby that open at 6am and serves coffee and fruit. If you need a quick service breakfast you have to walk to the Beach Club Marketplace, which opens at 7am. I packed a box of cereal and some plastic bowls and spoons. We bought a 1/2 gallon of milk the day we arrived from the Beach Club Marketplace (not the Yacht Club Gift Shop). That saved up time and money. The Captain's Grille has table service breakfast. There is a buffet ($19/adult and $13/child under 10), but we chose to order from the a la carte menu one morning and the food and service was great. We also ordered from room service on our first night. We had eaten at Germany and we were not very hungry. We ordered 3 kids meals to split between the 5 of us. We got 2 orders or pasta with marinara and 1 order of grilled cheese. All 3 meals came with chicken noodle soup and brownie kabobs (brownie, strawberry, pineapple, marshmallow, mini-cupcake, and chocolate dipping sauce) . We all had plenty to eat and the brownie kabobs made a great dessert for the kids. The food was good and the service was quick.
Getting to the parks is very easy. Epcot is a 5-7 minute walk. Hollywood Studios was a 15 minute boat ride, which makes 1 stop at the Swan/Dolphin. Magic Kingdom was a 20 minute bus ride. We did not visit Animal Kingdom, but you would also take a bus.
The Disney Magic was in full effect during our visit....
First, my 7-year old had lost his 2 front teeth the night before we left. When we were checking in they asked us if we were celebrating anything and we joked about celebrating the lost teeth. On our second day, we came back from the parks and found 3 balloons, a stuffed Goofy and a signed card from the characters congratulating my son on his lost teeth. It was very unexpected and definitely put a smile on our faces!
Second, my husband unknowingly came into contact with poison ivy the day before we left and the rash appeared after we had already arrived. Concierge was able to provide us with the name of a pharmacy that delivers to the resorts. We were able to call, order the medicine guest services took the delivery and left us a message that is had arrived. The delivery charge was $7.50, which we felt was very fair, and it was all charged right to our room so we didn't have to give out our credit card info over the phone.
In conclusion, our stay was very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this hotel.
