I want to start this review off by saying I love Disney World. I have been going there ever since I was a child and decided to take my own toddler there for the first time a few weeks ago. I have always stayed at a Disney property including one time at the Yacht Club and once at the Beach Club many years ago. All my trips have been truly magical. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for this past vacation. I truly hope that Disney management reads these reviews because they need to make some drastic changes especially with the hired cast members they have working at the hotels and parks.
I will start off with the moment we got off the plane. We had to stand in an extremely long line on a Saturday morning at the airport for the magical express bus. I think we waited to board a bus for about 30 minutes. This was very frustrating especially after being on a long flight. There should be more buses available during heavy trafficked times at the airports. When we finally arrived at the Yacht Club there was total commotion in the lobby. Luggage was all over the place, there was a very long line to check in, and the lobby was filled with people. We learned right away that the Yacht Club had a mix up with our room reservation (they took responsibility for) and that we were going to have to wait for a clean room to open up. We had to wait for 4 more hours (around 330 pm) to get a room. Once we were there we immediately noticed some of the sheets, five of the pillowcases, and several towels were stained. It was gross. We asked that housekeeping come up to replace the dirty items. It is difficult waiting for many hours in a hotel in this price range to finally be checked in to a room that is not spotless. No matter what the price the room should always be clean! I got the impression from the front desk that the cleaning staff was overworked because the hotel was at full capacity. If that is the case then it is up to the hotel to hire more staffers to help out. We also noticed trash from the rooms sitting outside of rooms in the hall and on the elevator tables that took several hours to be picked up.
When we finally made it down to the pool it was absolutely packed. I think the pool is great, but again there are not enough staffers here controlling the crowds or cleaning up after people. In the part of the sandy pool we found a seat at we noticed pieces of a diaper floating in the water, napkins, rusty hair clips, and a band aid. Someone really should be walking around and cleaning up. It left us feeling like the pool area was not clean. We did try out the quiet pool on the other side of the hotel which was great. The restaurant at the pool was very convenient and we thought the food was good. The ice cream diner was also adorable, but it never had any seats available and each time we went there for ice cream to take out we had to wait over 25 minutes. The people making the ice cream cones were extremely slow
With the exception of two lovely people working at concierge I would have to say that the majority of the people working at this hotel were not informed. We asked so many questions about countless things regarding parks, transportation, restaurants and the majority of the time nobody could answer our questions and they had to get somebody else who could. That is unacceptable and very unlike the Disney World I knew in the past! I am not sure if the training is different, but they need to go back to the way it used to be. We asked 5 people if there was a playground at the Yacht Club and two of them said yes (but they were not sure where), one said they did not know, and one said they thought they used to have one but no longer. By the way – there is a playground on the map online of the hotel, but we could not find it and nobody was able to direct us to it so we gave up! In general many of the staffers seemed annoyed and overwhelmed. I have never encountered this before – each time I have been to a Disney resort the staffers bend over backwards to inform and accommodate the guests. That is one of the reasons my family has loved staying on Disney property. The lack of service here was truly a disappointment (especially for the price).
We did walk over to the Beach Club and it was more crowded over there. Between the two hotels the Yacht Club had less kids. The beach club marketplace was a total mess. People were everywhere. It was so disorganized and again the wait was so long because it appeared new staffers were being trained. While the location of this hotel is convenient to Epcot it is not extremely convenient for those that want to get to the Magic Kindgom. We took the bus to the Magic Kingdom several times and once again the crowds were out of control. They had us packed into the buses. I was standing holding onto my toddler with my father and husband attempting to hold onto us so we would not fall over as the bus moved. There were other kids tumbling into my stomach and rolling around the bus because nobody had seats. Again – this was very unpleasant. There should be more buses so people can actually sit or stand safely!
I love Disney World, but I won’t come back to this resort until they fix some of their issues. This hotel used to be so amazing. I think the property is gorgeous and the views are fabulous, but just not worth it. The price is just too much money for what the hotel currently offers especially in terms of service and hotel cleanliness. Please Disney - hire more informed cast members who actually want to work for you and give them the right training!
