The achitecture was modled after the old faithful inn (yellowstone). There's a "hot spring" in the lobby the flows into a stream that feeds into the pool. I was swimming once and a family of ducks joined us. If you're planning to stay at a hotel in the price range, you should definitley look into the wilderness lodge.

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge from June 18, 2005 - June 25, 2005. We were received a free upgrade from a standard room to a courtyard view king bedroom. The view was amazing. We could see Bay lake from our bed, not to mention the geyser erupting. We also had a great view of the pools and a wooded area. The rooms were very clean and roomy. The entire hotel is stunning, and the theme is exquisitely executed. You really feel like you are in one of those great lodges of the west. It is even more beautiful in person. The transportation is convenient. There is a boat to Magic Kingdom (which drops you off right at the entrance, not the Trans. and ticket center like the buses do) and the Contemporary and buses everywhere else. We never waited long for a bus either. Artist Point is excellent. The Duck Confit salad was possibly the best thing I ate all week, and we went to many restaurants. The food at Roaring Forks is also good as is the room service. I have never stayed on Disney property before but after staying here I would never stay off-property again. It costs a little more but it is well worth it. We were able to sleep in everyday and take advantage of the extra magic hours in the evening and see everything we wanted to see. I highly recommend this hotel. The pool area is stunning, there is a water slide that is very fast and fun, the whole lodge is so welcoming, not stuffy like some of the other deluxe resorts seem to be. You will not regret staying here. I can't wait to plan my next Disney vacation!

Our family of four stayed at the Wilderness Lodge from June 22 to June 28, 2005. Had a courtyard view room on the 4th floor. Beautiful, beautiful hotel. Very clean and quiet room. Great view. Hotel staff MOST accommodating and very responsive. Very friendly and helpful. Whispering Canyon Cafe - very good food and VERY FUN staff. Your meal is a party. Roaring Forks fast food is hot, tasty and convenient. Swimming pool and slide are very nice. Had an absolutely wonderful stay here and would definitely stay here again. Very highly recommend this hotel.

“Beautiful, Simply Awesome!”

This was our 2nd time staying at Wilderness Lodge, and we couldn't be more pleased! From the minute you step thru the door into the magnificent lobby and see that grand fireplace, totem poles, hear the western music....you feel as if you've stepped into the grandest log cabin you can imagine. The rooms are a bit on the small side, but extremely clean. The staff is very friendly, makes you feel right at home. Transportation to the parks can't be beat - the longest we waited for a bus was 20 minutes, and that was because we saw the earlier bus pulling away while we walked to the bus stop and didn't feel like running to try and catch it. Boat transportation to the Magic Kingdom is a nice, calm way to start and end your day. Returning to the resort at closing time from the parks - might be standing room because of the crowds, but the wait was never longer than 10 minutes. We didn't eat at Artist Point, but Whispering Canyon has great food and a unique atmosphere (just try asking for ketchup!), and Roaring Fork is good for a quick bite. Pool area was always nice and clean, no matter what time of day we were there. We'll be staying here again!

“Best of the west in Central Florida!!!!”

Disney's Wilderness Lodge

My family and I just got home from our yearly vacation to Disney and the Wilderness Lodge. We've stayed at the WL the 4 times in the last 6 years. I thought it would be a great idea to post a comment from a young adults point of view. The hotel is great for not only children but teens too. If you are considering the WL and have 2 teens, a boy and girl especially, the hotel offers rooms with a queen bed and bunk beds so there are no sleeping arguments. You have to ask for the bunk bed rooms when you arrive. The hotel may not place you in that room the first day you are there but normally will the second day. The main pool with the water slide is typically filled with children but the pool by the villas is more quiet alternative. The main pool offers free towels, bar, and hair wraps-$1.50 per inch plus the cost of beads.
Another great teen attraction are the small speed boats that you can rent at the docks. The great thing about the boats is you have to be 16 with a drivers licence to drive the boats so kids arent out on the lake doing irresponsible things You can also drive the boats near the Magic Kingdom and the surrounding hotels. The boats for an hr are about $35 but they also offer a family pkg for your week stay for around $230.
Whispering Canyon is a great restaurant for children of all ages. I had fun there at age 20, but my cousins also did at 10 and 13. The unlimited skillet meals-breakfast and dinner are wonderful and fulfilling and milkshakes have free refills!! Our server made all of us hats out of bandana napkins and was very out spoken/going. Some of the servers are more outgoing than others just to let you know. For teens and older teens the boats to the magic kindom and the buses are great forms of transportation if you want to leave the park early while the rest of the family stay at the park.
Needless to say, this hotel is a wonderful place to stay. The four times we've stayed there we have never had a problem. It's a great hotel if its sunny and if its raining because its all inclosed so you don't have to walk outside like you would at other resorts. The cast memebers are always have smiles on their faces are are willing to help. I hope this helps..enjoy your stay!!! and the gift shop and pin station are great too!!
