I know - what more could I expect going with Motel 6? I was traveling alone taking care of personal business on this trip, so I wanted to cut my expenses and I really didn't need all the frills of a high-end hotel room so I booked this location for three nights.
The front desk staff was very friendly, and I was able to check in hours earlier than the normal check-in time of 4:00 PM.
There is one (very slow) elevator. With only three floors and nobody else using the elevator, I couldn't imagine what was taking it so long!
The room was extremely small with a musty odor. Now, not expecting the amenities of most hotel rooms, things like no toiletries, hair-dryer or alarm clock did not bother me, I had brought my own. The TV was older, but I wasn't there to watch TV so that was no big deal either. I did miss some other things you would normally see in a room like a safe, drawers to put your clothes in, and a coffee-maker. (which I use to make tea) I will mention that if you are a coffee-drinker, there is free coffee in the lobby each morning. I found it interesting that the bathroom was particularly large for the size of the room. Since I had been up since 3:45AM that morning, when I hit the bed at 11:30 I went right to sleep so I can't really say whether the bed was comfortable or not. I probably could have slept on a bed of nails at that point. The sheets and blankets were clean, the two pillows were cheap, flimsy and lacking, but clean.
There were people in the room right next to me. I heard their music and conversation but they eventually either left the room or went to sleep.
I have to say, I didn't feel all that safe walking around the property. It's not that well lit and I get the impression that this place appeals to more than just the frugal traveler. I loved walking to the elevator the next morning and having the extra time to count the 12 empty Nike boxes sitting there as I waited for the slow-as-molasses elevator to arrive.
On a brighter note, there is plenty of ice just past the elevator on the first floor as well as a few vending machines with soft drinks, snacks and ice cream. I also saw a guest laundry room. The location is convenient to the area attractions and there is dining (Red Lobster, I-Hop, etc.) within walking distance as well as 7-11 (across the street) and Walgreens (to the right, past I-Hop across Universal Blvd.) I checked out the following morning and was refunded the two nights that I didn't stay - (I had prepaid) - and I was not expecting that at all. I moved down the street to a different hotel.
