“Still a very good hotel but needs a little TLC and can be noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

We just got back from our 5th trip to Disney and our second stay at the Beach Club side of the Yacht/Beach Club resort. The location of the resort is very good with quick access to Epcot (walk right into France or take a 5 min boat ride) and good access to Hollywood Studios (10 min boat ride). Also, you have access to all the restaurants at the Beach/Yacht Club, Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin resorts AND countries of Epcot within walking distance (although some may be a longer walk with little kids depending on where you want to go).
So far so good... so why 4 stars?? Well as others have said the carpets in the hall are starting to look a little worn (not terrible but there are occasional humps and they are starting to look dull), and the rooms although clean are starting to show some wear as well. Nothing major but you won't be blown away for $400-$600 a night. As others have also mentioned this is a BIG resort and our room (1520) was WAY down the end of the resort towards the Epcot side. Good for quick access to Epcot but a long walk to get to the buses, boats or lobby. Not a huge deal for us but my father-in-law in his 70s was often gassed.

Compared to the Yacht Club side you get the following Pros/Cons:

Pros:
Beach Club side is the quicker access to the Marketplace (quick service foods)
Closer to Epcot
Solarium is a nice room to hang out in for a little break

Cons:
Noticeably noisier than the Yacht Club side. Mainly due to the fact that it has more families and the Yacht Club tends to have more business travelers. Plus the Beach Club side gets a lot if the Beach Club Villa traffic.
Yacht Club closer to boat launch for Hollywood Studios or Epcot boat (if you don't want to walk)
Yacht Club gets the buses first so there may not be any place to sit when the bus shows up. Doesn't happen too often but when it does you might wish you were on the Yacht Club side

Other winners for this resort:
Beaches & Cream is one of the best ice cream places in all of Disney but is always busy.
Pool is the biggest/best in Disney but when both resorts are full so is the pool seating area. While we were there they were also allowing Boardwalk guests to use the pool since theirs was out of service. First nice warm afternoon we just wanted to sit by the pool but had to wait 45 mins just to get a couple of chairs. Still...the pool rocks with sand bottom areas and a big sand "play area" for the kids to make castles and such.

Lovely hotel! Very relaxing, lovely atmosphere and the height of luxury! Just a short walk from Epcot and the pool is something else. However, there is no quick service restaurant, apart from the 'Hurricane Hannah' grill which offered salads and hot dogs (not a great variety). Would definitely recommend this spectacular hotel!

Upon arrival I was greeted by someone who got us checked in right away. The hotel is very cute and has a New England feel, it was clean and smelled fresh. The hotel staff is extremely pleasant and actually greet you when you arrive by saying " Welcome home" . The actual room which we had a garden view was ok a bit small. You have to realize that you are that you are paying for the great location of the resort and not the physical hotel itself. The hotel is a bit rough around the edges and needs a little TLC. About 4 days into the stay our toilet overflowed and backed up including the room next to ours. We had to move to a different room which was a little better. So they handled that well. The pool was nice with the sand at the bottom. The lazy river, but one thing you should know that it drops to 7 feet deep while you are walking around can be a bit of surprise epically when holding both of you children.
The location to Epcot is great a short walk, about a 10 min boat ride to Hollywood Studios and the bus to the magic kingdom. The market place was nice and easy. Overall the physical hotel was just OK what makes the hotel good are the staff and great location to Epcot.

"Welcome home!" is what they say to you repeatedly when you arrive, and that's the last time you actually feel at home. We stayed there fifteen years ago and not much has changed, and those things that have changed have changed for the worse. The rooms are glorified Holiday Inn rooms (except for the price), the dining choices aren't very good, the bathrooms are outdated, in room movies are a thing of the past, and since check in time was at three and we arrived at four, it would have been nice if our room had been ready when we arrived. The location to Epcot (which is also outdated) is the benefit.

Room Tip: Get something near the lobby elevator or it's a hike to get downstairs.

We spent 9 nights (Jan 29th to Feb 7th) at the Beach Club Resort at Disney World as a family trip with me, my wife and our 2 kids aged 6 and 4. We have stayed at this resort before and have stayed at all Disney World resort levels previously.

We were pleasantly surprised when we checked in to find we had received a bump to Club / Concierge Level. We had been bumped up once before and certainly didn’t expect it again. To our further surprise we found that not only had we been bumped to Club Level but to a majorly upgraded room – we had booked a standard view room and got bumped to a 2 bedroom suite with views overlooking the quiet pool for the room that had the 2 queen beds and the living room area and views of the Boardwalk from the king bed bedroom area. The difference between what we paid for and what we received was on the order of $1200 a night – crazy!

We can’t figure out what we did to get a bump let alone the kind of bump we did but we assume it had something to do with some conferences that were happening over the period we were there and the need for standard rooms and our stay overlapped where it made more sense to bump us to free up the room for business travelers.

So this crazy bump makes it a little hard to objectively review the hotel because what we received versus what we paid for was so huge it would be hard to find any fault. So what I will do is lay out pros and cons of the hotel in general and through that will give a bit of a review of the room we received as if we had paid the full amount for it.

Overall it was a fantastic trip and we truly enjoy the location of the hotel and all opportunities it provides for walking and just being out in the Florida sun with the family. Our only real complaint was that the wireless was wonky throughout the trip at the hotel (fine in the parks) which prevented me from doing some blogging I was wanting to do.

Thoughts:

• Location – this is why we booked this hotel – a short walk to Epcot and about a 15 minute walk to Hollywood Studios (boats are also available that are shared with the other Epcot resort area hotels). The upgraded room was so amazingly close to Epcot it was crazy – we could be at the International Gateway for Epcot faster than we could get to the lobby – just a 30 foot hallway, down one flight of stairs and out a door and we were on the walkway outside the hotel – over one hill and we were at Epcot – easily less than 5 minutes – awesome.

• Club Room – Stone Harbor Club is on the 5th floor and is available for breakfast, coffee, snacks and treats throughout the day for anyone staying at Club Level. With young kids, access to this room can very easily save you a bunch of money on breakfasts while staying at this hotel but may not be enough of a reason financially to pay for the upgrade. Unfortunately the room we were upgraded to was not on the same floor of the hotel as the club room and was quite a walk away – we could get to Epcot faster than we could get to the club room – probably just over 5 minutes walking.

• Marketplace – store and quick serve location – the store has a decent variety but can get busy at breakfast time (makes the club room a bit nicer). The store also serves the Beach Club Villas (vacation club) so does a variety of grocery items as well such as cereal and bread. The store just off the lobby and so was a bit of a walk from the room we were in but not too bad.

• Main pool – Stormalong Bay – large pool / water park area reserved solely for the guests at the Yacht and Beach Club hotels. There is a large sand bottomed pool with a sand island that is great for kids, a lazy river and then a larger pool with a large water slide. There are also a few hot tubs / spas around the pool area. Unfortunately this area closes at 8pm but the quiet pool is open much later and also has a large hot tub. From the room we were in it was faster for us to go out on the outdoor walking paths to the pool than go through the hotel – this area is never all that busy so it is actually kind of nice to get the sun on the walk instead of going through the air-conditioned hallways (Canadian speaking here). The quiet pool was outside our room and there was never any noise there even later in the evening when people started getting back from the parks.

• Staff – fantastic – never ran into any staff member that was less than polite or professional.

2 Bedroom Suite:

The suite starts with a standard 2 queen bed standard room with its own bathroom and sink area, a couch and a desk and chair. Additionally there is a tv mounted on the wall and a mini fridge in the room. This room had a Juliette balcony overlooking the quiet pool. The room also has a closet and enough storage for a family of four. Very nice room and it was basically this type of room we were expecting when we booked.

From this room there is a door that leads out to a little foyer area where the main door to the suite is located. Off of this foyer is a living room area with a couch, tv, desk and chair, table and lamp as well as the suite’s second mini fridge. There is a large picture window area with views of the quiet pool. Additionally this led to a little wet bar area with a Kuerig coffee machine and coffee packets which my wife enjoyed as a break from Disney coffee.

Around the corner from the wet bar is a short hallway with a closet, sink area, additional storage and another Juliette balcony. The bathroom is at the end of the hall. There is a door on either end of this hall that leads to the king bed bedroom.

This bedroom contains a king bed and nightstands, some storage and another tv. There was also an arm chair and ottoman with a big lamp. This room is a corner room and you can see the quiet pool out of the one side and the other has fantastic views of the Boardwalk area and the walking paths and beach in front of the hotel. You can lay in bed at night and see the lights of the Boardwalk. During the day the whole suite gets amazing light due to all the windows and being south and west facing.

Overall the amount of space is fantastic and it was great that our kids didn’t end up having to share a bed – this made for a better night sleep for everyone. We were also able to put them to bed in their room and sit and unwind and watch some tv in the living room before going to bed ourselves.

We did notice however some issues with the room itself – there were places where the wall paper had been obviously patched and from what we could see on the Disney site there were 2 arm chairs missing from the living room area. The missing chairs were an issue as there was really only seating for 3 in the living room without them. The wall paper and other areas where it looked like some things were dinged or damaged made us think that the room is likely due for retrofit / refresh.

For example one of the light fixtures beside the king bed was loose and felt like it might fall off the wall when you turn the light on or off. These needed repairs seemed a bit unlike Disney so I suspect they will be working on this room soon.

Basically if someone were to have paid what Disney charges for this particular room I suspect they would have been a bit disappointed in the condition of the room but we didn’t really care and just enjoyed the space.

Overall – a fantastic trip and a fantastic hotel that we would love to stay at again.

Not our first trip to WDW but our first stay at Disney's Beach Club, full of expectation from all the write ups and the deluxe resort status...pulling in to the Hotel you immediately get the 'WOW' factor and on arrival the staff could not have been more courteous, helpful or enthusiastic, all you expect of Disney. I wish the same could be said of the room...the corridors were tired and in need of a lift, carpet looking well worn and a few lights not working. On opening the room door it was clean, if a bit tired, but none the less what we expected until....pulled back the curtains and the view....a felted flat roof was the main feature and in the distance the car park. All of a sudden the WOW factor had gone, resigned to this as we had booked Presidents Week with the Hotel full, we had no choice, so the evening drink on the balcony was crossed off the to do list! Onwards and determined not to let this get in the way, the location is brilliant, walking distance to two parks and the boardwalk and great transport links to anywhere on the resort is a real winner. The pool area is superb and as I said the staff excellent. Food and service is typical of WDW lots of it and fast, don't expect a leisurely lunch or dinner. Two tips if staying at the Beach Club...make sure you ask to have a lagoon, garden or pool view (our room was 3720 on the third floor) and in the parks avoid Presidents Week in February, the place is rammed.... Still it's always one of our favourite places to go!!
