We have stayed in similar rated hotels in I drive and this one comes out as average. It has a good location and the staff are friendly but there are some niggles. Depending on what you are looking for in a hotel these niggles can be frustrating.
First impressions of the reception / check in was a quick and efficient service. We got a map of the hotel and directions to get to the room. If you have a car make sure you get a permit. The staff at the ticket desk were friendly and we didn't get the hard sell that other places have tried.
Rooms - all rooms open onto the car park or the pool and it's possible for people to come off the street without going through reception. This was a minor niggle as we never felt unsafe. The rooms have a large window so we ended up keeping this closed as you can feel like an exhibit at a zoo with people peering in. As the rooms are studio designed this means people will see everything. This can be a problem for ground floor rooms that face onto the pool as there is a lot of traffic in that section.
As the lighting is quite poor and the curtains were kept closed this meant the rooms were dark and felt oppressive so we were reluctant to spend a lot of time in the room. We never noticed a problem with any smells.
The furnishings were dated with some damage to handles, hinges and drawers. No wardrobe but there was a pole attached to the wall that you can use to hang clothes on.
There is a safe but you need to get the key from reception. If you lose the key they will charge you $35.
AC works although if you're not used to this noise it can be distracting as it is next to the bed.
TV took time to warm up so you could see the screen. It had a mixture of English and Spanish language channels along with the usual tourist channels.
There is also a fridge in the room that you can use to store drinks.
Shower was powerful although it turns into a bath as the water takes a long time to go down the plug hole. Towels were not the greatest and we would get them changed every day.
The room was cleaned every day and it was okay.
Wifi - wifi is only available from reception and very sporadic. You see a lot of people in reception at all hours trying to log on.
Laundry - only 1 washing machine and dryer for 190 rooms. This meant a wait when we did the wash and I could imagine it gets manic during the high season. There are vending machines and a microwave in the laundry. A plus is the laundry room can get a wifi signal.
Location - central and easy access to universal and I trolley / lynx with a Walgreens across the road. Lots of restaurants nearby and the usual I-drive shops. We stayed in a room by I4 and did not hear anything.
Overall, if you have booked here don't panic. If you want a cheap bed and a central location for the parks and I-drive then it's a good option.
