We stayed at the Marriott World Center for a convention.
First of all, this place is HUGE, as in Las Vegas Huge. Upon entering, probably due to our convention and others in the hotel, there was a giant cluster of people in different states of inebriation. Empty drink glasses left all over the lobby, parents holding on to the hands of their children very tightly to get past the group. I think they were all waiting for transportation to go elsewhere, but the initial impression was total chaos.
We checked in and were given rooms in the West Tower. The West tower is less than 10 floors, maybe 6, and looks to be built in the 60's. Ceilings are low, hallways have horrible carpet and terrible lighting. The room is thoroughly unimpressive and we call to see if we can get rooms in a newer tower, maybe with views of Disney.
They graciously move us to the newer North Tower, which in designing, they appear to keep with the architecture of the older tower. Again, low ceilings but better lighting in the hallways. However, the lighting in the rooms is far worse--that green fluorescent light in the bathroom and vanity area. All in all, it was no better. And our room was too low to get much Disney view. Oh well.
The room was also very noisy. it wasn't so much neighbors or hallway noise, but water hammer from the plumbing. When my neighbor flushed his toilet, my bed shook. And on the other side, maybe from an upper floor, whenever the water went on there was a significant water rushing noise coming from the closet area.
As a previous poster said, the management quickly defended themselves with the request for a king sized bed by saying "it's only a request" when you book it. Why do they even give you the choice then?
We didn't get to use any of the pools/amenities, and only tried the Solaris for breakfast. We did their buffet which has a lot of choices, but it's generally mediocre food. Juice from concentrate and lukewarm entrees.
Definitely not much value in this hotel. However, if you pay the $15/day for the world pass which includes parking and internet, one of the options is to also have unlimited use at the hotel driving range. Again, we didn't actually have the opportunity to utilize this amenity.
I would not bother staying here again.
