“Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

We visited Orlando during the Christmas holiday for a wedding and chose to stay at the Marriott instead of a Disney property. This Marriott is VERY convenient to Disney - we were only a 15 minute drive to the Grand Floridian's Wedding Pavilion. The hotel was hectic because of the holiday and several special events, but they managed well. The staff was very pleasant, particularly in the business center and the gentleman driving the resort's parking bus. The hotel did a good job of managing the crowds - congrats.

Room Tip: If you stay on the pool side of the hotel, you can see the Disney World fireworks!

We checked in on 12/27 for one night stay, the wait to check in was approximately 35 minutes as the front desk supervisor tried to find us a room because they were overbooked. Upon entering our room, someone has used the toilet and it was unflushed, not very nice welcoming, the rest of the room was clean. The hotel is huge and very nice, the pool area is awesome. We had dinner at the steak house and it was excellent, food was good and service was great. Unfortunately same can not be said about Solaris. We had breakfast there, I opted for menu since I am on a low cholestorl/low fat diet, I ordered the egg white omelet thinking it was the healthiest option, but received an omelet smothered in grease, along with hash browns which were also covered in grease, At $17 I would have expected a plate that atleast we could have eaten. The server noticed I had not touched my plate but did not even ask if everything was okay, just took the plate and bought the bill. I would say to skip this restaurant or bring lots of antacids!!!

The 2 bedroom units are well appointed. We have a large screened private balcony with separate entrance from master bedroom and living room. The grounds are very well maintained. We used three different pools during our stay. The one closest to our unit was kept very warm. It was never over crowded and generally quiet. The next pool was lush, quiet and beautiful, it is more suitable for quiet adults. The large Marriott world pool was simply fabulous. It is busy and noisy but has awesome water slides and a great area for little children. The pool is the biggest I have seen in a resort setting. There is also bar/restaurant service pool side.

Room Tip: We faced the golf course and had complete privacy

I waited in a long line to check in. There were about 10 people in front of me. I think they might have to add more front desk since they have around 2000 rooms. The hotel is huge. They have about 5 restaurants, and they also have a starbucks. This is a very busy hotel.
The pools are heated which is nice. The room we had was nice, clean. We saw fireworks from the Disney park from our hotel balcony.
They also have an indoor pool but a small one. We took our 5 year old son to the kiddy pool and he loved it.
Parking will cost you money and internet will also, but it's free in the lobby.

Room Tip: ask for resort view

This hotel was lovely! The staff was extremely friendly. Each employee had a smile on their face and always said hello. The room was clean and I had a beautiful view of one pool. The hotel is extremely large and I required assistance locating my room. The hotel does provide car service for a fee of 39 each way. The drivers were pleasant and the cars were very nice. Taking the hotel car service to the local theme parks did become pricy.

This is a very nice property. The size of this place is massive and with that comes lots of complications. First, you park in a garage attached to the convention center and then have to walk through the entire center to get to the hotel. How long? Well, it seemed like forever but it is a 5-8 minute walk plus a few escalators and a elevator. They have a shuttle from the garage (after paying $15 for self park/per day) to the main entrance if that is any indication. Arrived at the front desk and clearly we didn't check where ground zero was for soccer, football and baseball players as they were all there attending either an event at the hotel or tournaments in the area. The place was a zoo and we waited for 20 minutes to check in (at 10:30 pm), the restaurants were packed while we were there, and Starbucks had 40 people in line this morning at 9:30 am. The place is extremely well maintained and the staff is outstanding. No complaints there. The room was very nice, roomy and clean. This is a resort and despite all the fees and the rate, you'll be asked to part with somewhere near $12 per day for internet. Yes, pay for internet. I know this is a good revenue generator for the hotel industry but they hammer you every way you turn here. So I am cheap so I went to the lobby to use the free connection and that one doesn't maintain a good connection for long so you find yourself with frequent connection drops. We used the Velocity sports bar for dinner and the main dining area for breakfast. Expect to part with some serious cash to eat here. We found a lot of the teams staying here were sending a parent out to pick up Chick Fila and bringing it back. Sad, very sad. To pay $16 for 3 pancakes and sausage is a bit much. Three people ate for $60 at breakfast and there were no frills here. Food was very good and again, the wait staff were excellent. So cost, internet and a shuttle from the garage to the hotel are my gripes. There appears to be a lot to do for the kids here, water slide, indoor/outdoor pools, arcade and for food there is, as I understand, a more cost effective food court but we never saw it. The place is huge and this a nice place but based on our experience we won't bother staying here again.

We pricelined and got this for a very good price. Loved the pool with new slide tower. Resort priced pool bar with food and drinks poolside. Maid made up pull out bed for our son and ran in extra pillow and blanket very quick. Front desk called to ensure it got done. Nice quality control. Huge hotel nice balconies. Wonderful beds with feather bed underneath and high thread sheets. Great stay 2 miles from Disney main gate!!
