“Great family hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

The Holiday Inn Resort Lake Buena Vista is a great place to stay if you are traveling with children. 1 exit away from Disney. The pool area is great, with ping pong, life-size chess and checker pieces, 2 hot tubs, and a fun pool. There is also a kids movie theater off of the lobby. There are many restaurants within walking distance. The hotel was very clean and the staff very helpful. The only negative is that we could hear the family in the next room pretty clearly throughout our stay.

Rooms were excellent. Service was excellent. The only thing is parking I had to park on the opposite side of the hotel when I got in the middle of night from work. That was the only thing. I didn't fear my safety because it is gated but if they can get the buses to park elsewhere that would help. Oh yeah, if you don't have kids or not traveling with yours get a room furthest from pool. They have great activities for kids pool side and the guy uses a bull horn to wrangle up the kids. So if you need sleep during the day be sure to ask for room away from pool.

Room Tip: I'm sure they are all as beautiful as mine was.

Number one, the pool was TINY! Lots of rooms & a tiny pool means its always crowded. I didnt even sit by the pool because it was always so packed. But our issues started before that. I reserved a room with two beds, when I showed up to check in a 6pm the front desk woman said "one room one king bed" when I told her that I was traveling with a friend(as noted on the reservation) and we would need 2 beds she proceeded to say "I dont think that is possible" After 15 minutes of her walking into a back office then making phone calls from the desk then returning to the back office she finally came back to me & said "Ok we fixed your error" It wasnt MY error. Never an apology, nothing. The room itself was nicely updated however, the elevator took forever to come & parking is horrible late at night. The best part of the hotel was the restaurant, the food was great & the service was quick. However, Ill go back to Disney All Star Movies next trip, much better hotel & the same price!

Room Tip: Call an hour before to make sure they have the room type you reserved!

However, we’re sorry about the room confusion, poor customer service and for falling below your expectation regarding our pool. We will address these concerns. I assure you the feedback of our hotel will be reviewed and most certainly forwarded to the appropriate departments. The first night we were sent to a room in the older part of the hotel and it was the worst room I've stayed in. There were a number of broken items like the lock on the door, the alarm clock and a loose board hanging over the exposed pipes. The furniture was old and damaged. The renovations were done by amateurs. The paint job was horrible. Two different grout colors were used. The room was not as clean as I'd liked. We found a used bandaid under the bed and dead skin flakes and dust around the bed. I just wanted to close my eyes and pretend I wasn't there. The next day I contacted the hotel and complained and they very kindly moved us to an upgraded room in the newer section of the hotel. It was nice, but did have a few failures in the room. Shower curtain was too short and water went everywhere. Renovations were better but not perfect. Everything else was better in the new room and we were comfortable for the remainder of our stay. The hotel employees are very much aware that the old section of the hotel is pretty much ghetto. We compared notes with other guests and it sounds like the hotel places their Hotwire and Priceline customers in the worst rooms and if they complain, they will upgrade. It was a hassle and we were unhappy. The staff we dealt with were fantastic. Other guests we talked to did not have pleasant experiences with the staff. This hotel should not be considered a resort.

Room Tip: Do not let them book you in the older portion of the hotel. You do not want an exterior door. Ask...

Dear Duckgirl78:

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent stay. Please accept our apology for the unacceptable conditions that you found in your first room. We are very happy that the staff was able to move you over to a more comfortable room the following day. Your comments have been forwarded to the Housekeeping and Engineering Director for their attention and follow up on your first room. We are very glad to hear that all the staff you dealt with was fantastic! The hotel does not have any set location for any customers but does block the rooms by which rooms are booked and often the larger oversized rooms sell out well in advance.

Thank you again for taking the time to let us know about your stay!

Best Regards,

Keith D.

It calls itself a resort but to me a resort should have more than one choice of eating place. Applebees is located right next to hotel and it is this that lets Holiday Inn down. The staff at Applebees are good at evening meal times but at breakfast that is a different story. It seems that they get confused if you are not having the buffet. If you want something from the breakfast menu then they actually have to think what to do. Applebees also operate the pool side bar (opening hours are very erratic). If for example you just want a coffee and the pool bar is closed you will have to venture to the restaurant. Be prepared to be given a coffee to go because it is frowned upon if you dare to want to drink a coffee out of a cup AND at a table. The hotel is clean enough and beds are comfortable enough. Room service is every day but not sure what times it is carried out as we were at the parks. Air conditioning is very noisy, its either on or off, there is no fan speed setting. Nice little arcade for kids to play in helps. There is a room where they show a kids film at set times of the day, this is a nice touch. Concierge is obviously paid to get you to do a timeshare viewing with the promise of really cheap park tickets. My wife felt pressured into doing this but she kept saying no. If this is your kind of thing then fine but otherwise stay clear of the ticket desk/concierge. Get your tickets beforehand. A free shuttle bus to the parks is on hand, a few go to disney parks at various times but only one to universal and seaworld. If you miss these then a taxi is the only other option. Being a disney good neighbour hotel i would have expected more times for all parks. Swimming pool is great size but because it is open until 11 o'clock at night it can get very noisy. In my opinion there should be a staff member to monitor these noise levels as if your room is facing the pool you will have difficulty getting kids to sleep. To sum it up, a reasonable hotel to stay in but seriously let down by Applebees and noise levels from pool area at evening times and most definately not a resort.

Checked into hotel knowing it was a pet friendly hotel that we booked on Priceline. We left the dog in the room for an hour to go down to the restaurant to eat, and came back to a security guard standing outside the door, and what sounded like pounding coming from inside our room (note our dog is 4 pounds). Turns out the dog barked, so the people next door decided to pound on the wall. Well, if you have any common sense, that is just going to make a dog bark MORE! We saw a note on the floor that said to come down to the front desk as soon as we got back, fine. Go to settle everything at the front desk, and my hand gets wet when shutting hotel door. Apparently the next door neighbors were that mad, to SPIT on our door. I was completely disgusted when going down to the front desk, hoping they would understand that this is a health hazard and is also considered assault. The Manager, Heather, only cared about the guests who were disturbed by the dog (that they kept barking by pounding on the wall), and could care less about the fact that I was standing there almost in tears because I am a health freak, and I had someone's saliva on my hand (I had ran into the bathroom in the lobby to wash it off at this point). Heather was completely rude, and made me pay $50 to compensate the guests who heard the dog barking, but COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEM SPITTING ON OUR DOOR. This is a PET FRIENDLY hotel. Apparently, it is NOT PET FRIENDLY, but it is SPIT AND ASSAULT FRIENDLY!!!!! Photo of spit on door handle is attached. Will never be back simply because of the rude customer service. I am disgusted by the way this situation was handled, and WILL NEVER BE BACK!

We stayed April 1-4 and were impressed with our room. It was very clean, well maintained, and very quite. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well. The pool area was very nice and after walking all day the spa felt great. The lobby is very inviting and clean and they have a nice game room and a little movie room for kids. They also have a free shuttle to Disney and universal but note they only go once there and once to get back. We missed our bus coming back one day but you can take a Disney shuttle which is a bit confusing. We took a cab because we were exhausted and just wanted to get off our feet. All in all very nice hotel would recommend. Oh restaurants in walking distance if no car.
