We (my husband, 3 children and I) went to Discovery Cove on the coldest day in Florida in 5 years. When we arrived it was hovering around 0 Celcius and didn't get much warmer ( there was wind too). Despite all that, it was our best day ever in Orlando. I must admit the Dolphin swim was the least amazing part of the experience although still wonderful. We had done this in Cuba and you truely got to swim around with the dolphins and even get balanced on their noses, thrown in the air etc. so a short little ride and 29 minutes of standing with one dolphin just didn't compare. I understand they take good care of their dolphins and that certainly showed. These dolphins can take a day off whenever they want. The staff had tremendous knowledge as well. We all really enjoyed the ray pool and the snorkelling was unbelievable. It was such a safe environment for my children to learn how to snorkel and there were several lifeguards so I could relax and enjoy myself too. There is a lovely warm pool with a cave and a "river" that a guide takes you along - very relaxaing and warm at 86 degrees F. We all loved the aviary where they have over 100 species of the most gorgeous birds. We spent two hours in there while birds slept on our shoulders and curled up in our hair (looking for warmth!). We were given an unlimited amount of food to feed them and the staff was very knowledgable about each species as well as each bird's personality. Back to the water activities - we were all provided with wet suits because of the extreme cold, I believe most people picked up a new wet suit after lunch. They had plenty of hot coffee and hot chocolate on hand to keep us warm, in addition to plenty of towels. Lunch was excellent and included with the price as were all snacks and beer of course. We looked longingly at those lawn chairs lined up around the pool on the sand and thought how wonderful this place must be when it's at least warm enough to sit out. Never mind, we've vowed to come back and enjoy this place on a hot day some time. One final note: my kids felt the birds and fish were better than all the rides they went on in the parks. Now that really says something about this wonderful place.
