“Scallops, Scallops and More Scallops”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

We have a daughter that lives in Orange Park whose husband does not like seafood so while he's out of town and we visit we try to take her and our Grand Daughter out. She had never tried Sams but based upon Trip Advisor reviews we gave it a shot and all I can say is WOW! Although my wife was not feeling up to par she tried the fried shrimp and liked them. We started out with fried green tomatoes and were impressed not only with the taste but the size of the order, couldn't eat them all. My daughter did try the Oyster Stew and was not impressed but for her main course had the Crap Cake appitizer and loved them. I had the Scallops and have to say they were great and plentiful, 14 scallops for $13.99 is unheard of in this day and age. The only reason I can't give Sams an excellent rating is the afore mentioned Oyster Stew. With that exception we all found Sams to be well worth the trip. A tip, get there early on a Friday night as by the time we left around 6:30 there was a pretty long waiting line.

“Not for couples”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

My wife and I were on the road on News Year's Eve and looking for a nice seafood restaurant. Our hotel directed us here. It was not what we expected (not entirely the fault of the restaurant). It's in a strip mall and is on the rustic side. They do not serve alcohol (we are not big drinkers but hoped for a drink after a long day on the road - on New Years Eve), the food was just average, and it was very noisy. The noise was the result of all the families with young children. Based on the waiting line, its a very popular place for area families. If you have a family, you might give it a try. If your party is all adults, I'd give it a pass.

“A bargain.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Guilty pleasure: the fried pickle chips. And you can't go wrong with the fried green tomatoes, and the collard greens are great. Inexpensive bottled beers, and the seafood was authentic, fresh, and good.

“UNBEATABLE SEAFOOD AND MORE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

If you're looking for great seafood and GREAT service, THIS IS YOUR PLACE!! The tastiest fish and shrimp around!! The servings are large and the servers are GREAT!!This place is like being home! This is THE PLACE all the locals come to, they have learned nothing beats SAMS ST. JOHNS!! PS...the prices are very low dishes average around $7-9. Not bad for what you get!!

“Revised opinion”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

We've been back to this restaurant several this since our 1st review. They have a new menu that does NOT include lobster bites. The prices are more expensive, and they've increased the age on the seniors menu. All very disappointing. Sorry to say we won't be back often when there are many nicer atmosphere places with the same prices.
