This place was recommended to us by a very special friend. My wife and I stayed here in one of the newly remodeled rooms along the St. John's river. The view was beautiful as were the property grounds. You do feel that you are in another time. Pools and landscaping are awesome and a walk around the property is a treat in itself. The room was large and very nice with a balcony on the waters edge, we have paid more for less at other places. Lot of value here, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The River House bar on the property is a gem and the bartender was a pleasure to hang out with. This is a wonderful place to stay and we will definitely come back. Highly Recommend The Club Continental!

Where to start...

They have the check in process not through what could be a beautiful courtyard, but instead through a side entrance that literally leads to the back office, which is a cluttered mess. We had to stand in the middle of their office to be told "not to use the bathroom on the wall"?!? Excuse me?

We walk to our room, stair well is filthy. We walk into our room, a riverfront room, which may have been the tackiest/disgusting room I have slept in years. Wall murals painted all over the bathroom from 1982 circa, shower light out-had to shower with the door open to provide light. One of those bathrooms you had to walk around with shoes on. Gross.

Cups were according to their sign, "NOT cleaned to government standards". Oh, nice...I'll drink out of that. The drapes were sagging, the tinted windows were ripped..yes, tinted windows. Spider underneath the desk glass, dust bunnies in the corner. Bed gave me the creeps.

Staff, although nice, was far below professional. The bar back was stocking in his T-Shirt, the maids asked if I needed my room cleaned, etc. The breakfast bar was served from 7am-9am, I typically like to sleep until 8am on vacation so by the time got down there it was 8:40am, you better believe they pull the breakfast at 9am. I had to beg to leave the coffee.

Just a very poor experience overall.

The good: beautiful Oak Trees with spanish moss. Thats it. Even the grounds though look nothing like the website. I am beginning to think that all the good reviews were written by the staff or the cliental has never traveled.

My advice, stay at the Hampton Inn up the road for half the price and 4 times the quality of room.

Thank you taking the time to review our property on Trip Advisor. The Club Continental strives to make each and every one of our guests’ visits enjoyable and guest feedback is critical to that mission.

The Club Continental offers a unique stay in an historic property, but we do understand that staying at an older property does not suit all tastes. Knowing that art is a matter of opinion, we are truly sorry you did not like the mural in your room. Our website does show photographs of each of the rooms, including many of the murals in the bathrooms. If ever anything detracts from your enjoyment of a hotel room, we urge you to speak to the innkeeper…often each room is completely unique from another, and simply switching to rooms would solve the problem.

Our dishware in the hotel rooms is thoroughly cleaned, using household dishwashing agents. This is a very common practice at resorts and inns that offer glassware and cooking utensils in the rooms. Please visit the Florida State Department of Business and Professional regulation website for more information on this topic by clicking here: http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/hr/forms/documents/5022-045.pdf Due to your concerns, we now offer the choice of glass or prepackaged plastic cups in each room.

Our evening desk attendant, Harry, did offer to come to your room and replace the burned out light, but was told no service was necessary. We would have gladly addressed the issue, had we been allowed to do so.

We would love the opportunity to speak with you directly, if you are ever in the area again, as we strive to provide our guests with the best possible hospitality and service. We hope to see you in the future and we wish you the very best in your travels.

We happened upon this place online when looking for non-average hotels. We only stayed a couple of nights, but loved the grounds and being next to the river. A quiet room and the grounds were quiet too. Shady parking among the trees. Good, friendly service, too.
Highly recommended.

If you're traveling to Jacksonville and are looking for a Luxury Hotel that has it all, try the Club Continental Suites. The Hotel property is gorgeous! It feels like you're in Italy or Spain. The grounds are well landscaped and the pools are beautiful. It is a perfect place to R E L A X...

We arrived a little early for check in and went to the cabana at the pool and had a fantastic lunch! My wife had a brocolli salad and I had the shrimp salad. Both were a pleasant surprise!
The Suites are large and well kept and have all the amenities. The river view is wonderful, and sunrise is terrific.

There is a really nice paved trail along the river for walking or running. After walking, go to the contintental breakfast. They make their own coffee cake and pastry! The fruit is fresh and they even serve omlets and eggs!

If you enjoy tennis they have some very nice courts. Bring your racket... You won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: The River Suite was perfect!

This place is amazing. I stayed in one of the suites which have just been renovated. You are right on St. John's river and its so awesome. The rooms are very comfortable. It was a very peaceful experience staying here and the free breakfast was amazing. True southern charm. Highly recommend

Room Tip: Would defiantly stay in a suite

We had the pleasure of staying at Club Continental while attending a wedding in July. The customer service was extraordinary (from Renee who checked us in, recognized a problem with our room and lovingly and generously addressed our concerns leaving us surprised and so grateful (thanks Renee!); to the staff that supported everyone's "every need" at the wedding); to our room which was beautiful; to the lovely, enchanting inn itself (from the river views to the clean and lovely pool, to the exceptionally beautiful and well preserved period architecture); to exceptionally reasonable prices. Run don't walk to Club Continental! Michael and Reine, NH

My wife, two friends, and I were at the Club Continental because my wife was graduating from the Robert Weber Institute of Worship Studies. The river suites were super, the food was excellent and the staff was very, very accommodating. Although my wife will not graduate from IWS again, we will definitely return to the Club Continental.
