Description: The Durham Ox is the oldest inn in Ilkeston dating from 1780 with later Victorian editions. The property is steeped in history having once been used as the town gaol with secret passages taking the prisoners from the cells in the cellars up to the Church in the market place where they were tried for their crimes.A major scheme of renovation and restoration this year has returned the pub back to its origins and created a quiet relaxing haven in which to unwind and enjoy a drink or a home cooked meal....or both

“Just what Ilkeston needed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

Having visited thsi establishment on several ocassions, for meals and just for a drink, I cannot fault the place.

It is exactly what Ilkeston has been crying out for, somewhere you can go with mates, take your wife/significant other, your new boss and their wife or even your mother in law (though why you would do that is beyond me as the cells are no longer accesseble {bit of a hint there is you want some extra bussiness})
The food is excellent, the drinks well stored and served and the staff are knowledgable helpful and genuinely pleased to see you.

I would definately recommend booking early as word is spreading and getting a table may prove to be difficult!

Will be coming again

I shall bring my mum next time to experience the vegetarian options. Not tried the puddings yet but will wait until our next visit to give them a try.
Lovely surroundings.
Thank you.
