We stayed 14 nights at the Doubletree, North Redington Beach in May 2007 in a beachfront room on the 5th floor overlooking the pool. Free covered parking is conveniently located close to elevators. Front desk clerks were always friendly and gave us warm chocolate chip cookies throughout our stay. Concierge can provide a map and directions to local attractions. Also, you can get a safety deposit box at the front-desk.
The lobby is very clean and attractive with tropical decor. There is free access to a computer on the main floor to check your e-mails or to use the internet, but it's not connected to a printer. There is another computer and printer in the same room that requires a credit card. The front-desk clerk offered to print our boarding passes.
Our first two nights were on the 6th floor overlooking the restaurant. However, the sounds from the air conditioning on the roof and the restaurant below were too noisy for us, so we asked to be moved to a quieter beachfront location, and we moved to the 5th floor overlooking the pool.
For your information, if you don't upgrade to a beachfront room, then you will be looking at the parking lot, the road traffic, and in the distance a beachwear store and some local houses.
The rooms are very clean, but it's not a new hotel. Also, the rooms do not have the same tropical decorated drapes as on the hotel website, instead they are just plain looking. We were a little disappointed that we could only watch a very limited number of television channels, but we were more disappointed with the extra soft mattress--we are used to an orthopaedic mattress. Anyhow, my expectation on the bedding was way too high before I stayed here.
One other problems that we encountered is the loud air-conditioning sound kicking-in during the night. When it woke me up, it sounded like we were having a hurricane.
The view from the balcony is spectacular, the in-room mini fridge is very handy for storing cold drinks and snacks, and the beach location is extremely convenient. You can walk for miles on the beach. We enjoyed swimming in the pool and in the Gulf. Towels and lounge chairs are provided around the pool, and there are three stationary umbrellas. Also, the food in the restaurant is very good, but we found the service very slow.
There is a private company that rents padded lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach. The price is $24.00/day. They also rent for a half-day, and I think by the hour. Since we were staying for two weeks, we bought some chairs and an umbrella at a local store because we wanted to have the flexibility of choosing a location on the beach and to take them with us to other beaches in the area.
In conclusion, the hotel is lively. They have beach wedding ceremonies on the weekends. The music is loud from noon until 11 p.m. sometimes. If you have a beachfront room, you will definitely hear the loud music in your room. There was no music on Mondays and Tuesdays or on rainy evenings. The beachfront location is superb.
