“Unusual and tasty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

I ended up at Yakko San by accident (traffic on the way to favorite sushi place) and this turned out to be a good thing.

They serve a wide variety of authentic Japanese dishes, and some "Japanese-inspired". They also have a choice of smaller plates, kind-of Japanese tapas - which give you an option of trying a number of things at one meal. Fish dishes (small plates) are good and inventive, and sushi is quite good, although not as varied as you would find in a "sushi only" restaurant.

Prices for small plates are par for the course for an "upscale" area where restaurant is located, but I felt that they were worth the extra few $$.

Service was slow and not very attentive, as my waitress preferred to chat with her friend in the corner and ignore me as much as possible, and was borderline annoyed when she had to actually deal with my order. I am not sure this is representative of the place, though - hopefully just one off.

Will be back to try more things :)

“Best Sushi in North Miami Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Fresh, tasty and inventive sushi using jalapenos, balsamic vinegar and guacamole ! Even have a pasta with clams dish ! Broad menu with many familiar and exotic choices. Could add brown rice to thier menu to please the health conscious.

“Just what we needed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

Felt fortunate to have found such a good place open so late at night (closes at 03.00).

We arrived at 02.00 and enjoyed a wide range of menu items. For example, we had Tofu steak, Beef Tataki, Mixed Salad, Yasai-Itame, Chicken Liver Itame, Chicken Gizzard Kara-age, Chicken Tatsuta-age and accompaniments. All came promptly and items were served fresh and hot. I would rate the overall quality as good or better.

Seemed to be quite a cavernous place with a night club feel, though at 02.00 it felt rather empty though there were perhaps 20 people dining or at the sushi bar. Expect it gets very busy at peak times.

Food is average but fairly priced, service is long! We waited 15 minutes for the check! Not sure we will return.
