I ended up at Yakko San by accident (traffic on the way to favorite sushi place) and this turned out to be a good thing.
They serve a wide variety of authentic Japanese dishes, and some "Japanese-inspired". They also have a choice of smaller plates, kind-of Japanese tapas - which give you an option of trying a number of things at one meal. Fish dishes (small plates) are good and inventive, and sushi is quite good, although not as varied as you would find in a "sushi only" restaurant.
Prices for small plates are par for the course for an "upscale" area where restaurant is located, but I felt that they were worth the extra few $$.
Service was slow and not very attentive, as my waitress preferred to chat with her friend in the corner and ignore me as much as possible, and was borderline annoyed when she had to actually deal with my order. I am not sure this is representative of the place, though - hopefully just one off.
Will be back to try more things :)
